Would You Like a Cup of Coffee Opening Episode Story
Failing the civil service exam for the nth time, Kang Gobi (Ong Seong Wu) calls his mother for comfort. Despite feeling bad, he remains optimistic and finds a coffee shop to brighten up his mood.
Locating a nearby coffee shop, he enters and politely asks for a seat he prefers and if there is a time limit for his stay. The owner, Park Seok (Park Ho San), responds accordingly. He also senses that the young man is not in the best mood.
Attentively preparing coffee, he presents it to the gloomy young man. At his first sip, Gobi experiences a “god shot”. All his unhappiness was swept away by the superb taste of the coffee he ordered.
After serving Gobi’s order, he gives another cup of complimentary coffee and a croissant bread. Later, when he closed his shop and agreed to have dinner with Kim Joo-hee (Seo Young Hee), a writer who is a regular at the coffee shop, Gobi bravely asks if he can learn the art of making coffee with him.
Declining politely that he does not need staff, Gobi insists on being taken care of by Park Seok for serving a coffee that made him realize a new dream. However, the old man remains firm.
Resigned to convince Park Seok, Gobi diligently works hard to get his attention and trust. Seeing his effort, the seasoned barista finally accepts him as his mentee and worker.
Would You Like a Cup of Coffee Opening Episode Musings
Partly blaming my Wanna One fangirl spirit, I’ve marked Would You Like a Cup of Coffee on my coverage come what may.
Ong Seong Wu won my heart in More Than Friends last year and it’s admirable to see him spreading his wings to different genres. Fortunately for his baby-face look, he can still pass for youth roles or take ones befitting his age.
Playing the role of Gobi, who seems to be half-earnest and half-optimistic, we can expect smile-inducing moments. The mentor-mentee relationship with Park Ho San will obviously draw relevant pep talks that a wide range of viewers can relate to.
Quickly paced, viewers might overlook the underlying messages of each episode. Rest assured, it will be covered on kdramadiary’s recap.
Go-bi’s God Shot
Go-bi’s “god shot” coffee moment encourages us to never lose the will to dream. That it is okay to stop a dream that is seemingly stagnant and work on a new one that you can passionately nurture.
Wandering on his career crossroads, Gobi can inspire aspiring and veteran career people. For those carving their presence in their chosen career, there would be unlucky ones who can’t seem to settle in the right amount of workplace happiness. Because sometimes, it’s really not the career they dream about.
Likewise, seasoned workers who lost their motivation to a long-running career might have thought of quitting their job most of the time, but the tenure and stability of the job, hold them back from resigning.
Kang Gobi made it look easier for people struggling to find happiness in their regular jobs by teaching decisiveness. He dauntlessly aims for a new goal and keenly works to prove he is capable of achieving it.
More life lessons over cups of coffee are set for viewers in the 12 episode run of the series.
