Korea International Cultural Exchange Agency has unveiled the trending dramas, movies and stars overseas on August 3.

For three consecutive years, Lee Min Ho and BTS have cemented a respected Korean wave presence. Meanwhile, Crash Landing on You and Parasite have continuously gained a following worldwide.

According to the 2021 Global Hallyu Trend published by the Korea International Cultural Exchange Agency, the Hallyu wave remains to be strong despite the global pandemic situation. In fact, last year, exports of Korean cultural content increased by 8.8% overall, further proving the expanded reach of Korean entertainment.

Popular Dramas & Films Voted By Overseas Hallyu Fans

The most preferred Korean drama by overseas Hallyu fans was Crash Landing on You (9.5%), It’s Okay To Not Be Okay (4.1%) and The World of the Married (2.8%).

For films, Oscar-winning Parasite (18.4%) took the top spot. Interestingly, zombie movies such as Train to Busan (10.2%), Peninsula (3.5%), and #Alive (2.1%) have been received well.

Popular Hallyu Stars Voted By Overseas Hallyu Fans

Global phenomenal boy group BTS (22.0%) unsurprisingly became the best choice for Korean singers. It has been number one since 2018. BLACKPINK (13.5%), Psy (2.9%) and TWICE (2.4%) follow respectively.

 

Securing the top spot on Korean actors’ roster is The King: Eternal Monarch star Lee Min Ho (9.6%). Rounding up the renowned actors’ list are Hyun Bin (3.5%), Gong Yoo (2.3%), and Song Hye Kyo (2.1%).

“K-pop” has become the national image that comes to mind when you think of  South Korea in the last four years. However, the actual consumption of Hallyu content was highest in dramas with 29.6%.

Regarding the results of the survey, the Korea International Cultural Exchange Agency recognized the contribution of the impact of Korean singers, actors, dramas, and movies to sustain the Korean wave popularity.
