Steadily gaining popularity, iQiyi’s first original Korean drama series My Roommate Is A Gumiho continues to receive massive love from K-Drama fans around the world!
Through its great plot and character portrayals, webtoon-based drama My Roommate Is A Gumiho continues to achieve good and steady ratings since its premiere on May 26.
The romantic comedy-themed drama details the relationship between a 999-year old nine-tailed fox named Shin Woo-Yeo (played by Jang Ki Yong) and a female college student named Lee Dam (played by Lee Hyeri). The latter accidentally swallowed Woo Yeo’s fox bead that would suppose to help him become a human and this forced them to live together under one roof.
During the course of their cohabitation, they begin to set many rules in order to go on with their lives smoothly. They eventually learn about their feelings for one another, which makes the drama more interesting.
A Lowdown of the 3rd and 4th Episode
In the third and fourth episodes which aired last June 2 and 3, Lee Dam went on a fake date with Woo Yeo, with hopes that Sunwoo (played by Bae Inhyuk) would stop lurking around her. Signifying that the date went well, both of them became closer to each other.
Woo Yeo would sometimes send an umbrella to Lee Dam during days when the weather is bad and would also listen to her endless rants about school. The fox would also attend Lee Dam’s meetings for her during days when she feels like she is not fit to go to school. The latter even cried in Woo Yeo’s arms, showing how they are becoming emotionally connected day by day.
Amidst all of his actions towards Lee Dam, Woo-Yeo is still hesitant whether he would acknowledge his feelings for his roommate because of his traumatic past.
To comfort the frustrated Lee Dam, Woo-Yeo decided they should go to karaoke together. Lee Dam sang her heart out while Woo Yeo chose to sing a Korean song released in 1982, which took the girl by surprise.
Making it even more exciting to watch, the song was part of Lee Hyeri’s 2015 hit drama Reply 1988. In fact, she showed the exact same expression, when the parents in Reply 1988 sang the song together during the second episode.
Despite the twist in the characters’ story, all of the main cast do all of their best to promote the show well. Jang Ki Yong and Lee Hyeri even posted a photo of themselves holding hands on their personal Instagram accounts with captions “Let’s watch Episode 4” and “Dam Woo-yeo,” respectively.
All of this hard work led to an amazing average nationwide rating of 4.4% for the fourth episode, peaking at 4.9%. In the capital of South Korea, Seoul, the same episode attained 4.7% rating, peaking at 5.5%.
Both recent episodes also received the highest rating among other competing cable channel shows of the same time slot.
