Chameleon actor Kang Ki Young immerses in another memorable role he will add to his growing portfolio in The Point Men.
The Point Men depicts a collaboration between a diplomat and a local NIS agent who headed to Afghanistan to save Koreans who became hostages of the Taliban in a disheartening kidnapping case in 2007.
Accordingly, The Point Men released stills of the actor suited up to his role. His irreplaceable charm shines through raising expectations of what acting transformation he will portray this time.
Previously, the actor was loved for his “ideal mentor” role in the hit series Extraordinary Attorney Woo.
Kang Ki Young plays the role of Qasim, the only local interpreter. He is a Korean who is fluent in ‘Dari’ and ‘Pashto’, the official languages of Afghanistan, and because of this, Park Dae-shik (Hyun Bin) offers an interpreter and joins the negotiation operation.
Moreover, he is a weed-like figure who survived in the back alleys of Afghanistan. He is a master of improvisation created by his unique survival instinct and will bring joy to the audience with his witty words in the negotiation scene.
Notably, Kang Ki Young poured a lot of passion into bringing to life the character of Qasim.
At the press conference for The Point Men held on January 13, he adorably quipped how he memorized the Afghan language and paid attention to the styling of a local in Afghanistan.
“I memorized ‘Pashto’ so well two years ago that I thought I could do it again next week. I put in a constant effort to study and memorize the script. Regarding the visual, I styled tailored to the local environment. From there, I worked to embody the witty personality of Qasim, acting as a let’s-take-it-easy-character in the tension-filled negotiation scenes.”
In this way, it is expected that Kang Ki Young will once again convey his charms to the public through his portrayal in The Point Men.
His pleasant energy shown in various works such as the dramas What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim, My Secret Terrius and At Eighteen is expected to create engrossing points in his new film.
The Point Men is directed by Yim Soo Rye of Little Forest, Whistle Blower and Southbound fame. Starring Hyun Bin, Hwang Jung Min and Kang Min Young; the film will be released tomorrow in Korean cinemas.
