Alchemy of Souls Part 2 Episode 9 Highlights
Pressuring Lady Jin to give up her authority on Jinyowon, Bu-yeon steps up to Jin Mu’s challenge and enters Gwido, a prison at Cheonbugwan where she has to find a Jinyowon plaque thrown by the villain to the abyss of that prison.
Bringing the turtle along with her, Bu-yeon inexperiencedly defends herself to no avail. But Jang Wook arrives to save the day.
“Only you are allowed to come this close to me.”
Confessing how she regained her memories, Wook abruptly protected her eyes when Prince Won arrived to check on them. Reminding her to be careful in showing her eyes, he asserted that only he could be close to her.
It turns out that Wook and Prince Won have made an agreement. The latter is feigning allegiance to Jin Mu to get the details of his secret organization. Thanks to the turtle Jin Mu got rid of, it became a turning point for Prince Won to make a stand firmly.
Inadvertently, Prince Won also becomes an instant marriage counselor when Wook relayed how Bu-yeon just confessed that she regained her memory along with a man that she liked. Thinking it was not him, Wook wallows in uncertainty. Rubbing salt in his wound, Prince Won adorably mocks how his boundless magical power, unfortunately, can’t win his wife’s heart.
Later, Prince Won finds Bu-yeon and they converse about Naksu. He opens up about how he is in deep pain and remorse for the wrong decision he made. Bu-yeon reassures him that Naksu would not want him to be in that torment.
Through So-yi’s right hand, Yul learns that Naksu was possessed by the bell potion curse which can make soul shifters go crazy by hearing the sound of bells. So-yi has been taking the bell potion concocted by Jin Mu and in passing she shared that Mudeok took the potion as well.
Even when Yul and Master Park try to persuade the Queen about the bell potion curse, she refuses to be of help to them.
“Should I do nothing or stay here with you?”
At Gwido, Bu-yeon learns from Prince Won about the meeting of soul shifters that Jang Wook will be fighting in Daeho. Before he leaves for his mission, he declines to throw the question about her identity that he already fathomed. Instead, he asks if she would want him to stay or be at the fight.
Albeit wanting to satisfy her longing, Bu-yeon responds that he needs to do what he must and stays at Gwido to do her mission.
Marching in different directions to stop Jin Mu’s goal of a new beginning for the soul shifters, Prince Won and Jang Wook take the assembly while Yul, Dang-gu, Master Park and other mages storm to Cheonbugwan.
Creating a barrier, Wook traps Jin Mu and goes Naruto as he battles the 78 soul shifters in attendance at his secret organization’s assembly. But he let go of Jin Mu as someone is more deserving of revenge aimed at him.
Fulfilling Bu-yeon’s request to have Jin Mu be sent to Gwido, the villain was lured by an ice stone and willingly enters the magical prison. Using the ice stone that can suck someone’s energy slowly, Bu-yeon exacts revenge on Naksu’s old master.
Upon learning of Jin Mu’s plight, the Queen orders her nephew Yun-oh to save him desperate to escape the body her soul shifted to.
“If you are blaming yourself for what happened, you don’t need to do that. I hope this excuse will let you stay where you want to be.”
Indeed, Prince Won’s turtle possesses great energy and also helps Bu-yeon find the Jinyowon Plaque. Lady Jin who conversed with Master Kim to reconcile Yul’s story learns how Bu-yeon being revived from death through the ice stone could have gained some of Jin Seol-ran’s powers whom Master Kim thinks has been protecting the ice stone.
Agreeing to explain the ruckus at the Unanimous Assembly, Bu-yeon meets Yul who delivers the news of how she was purposely cursed by Jin Mu leading to the massacre she caused three years ago. Nevertheless, she still feels undeserving to be forgiven and unworthy to be by Jang Wook’s side.
Knowing what to do best, Yul meets Wook to reveal what happened to Naksu three years ago. Confessing the agony of feigning ignorance about Naksu, Wook responds that her imminent disappearance is not an excuse for them to be together.
At the Unanimous Assembly meeting, Bu-yeon was tasked to remove the ice stone from Wook after learning that she put the ice stone on Jin Mu who will wither and die at Gwido.
Desperate to get the soul ejector that only Jin Mu knows, Yun-oh accompanies the queen and finds the dying gwangju.
Ever the wicked, Jin Mu retrieves the soul ejector he smartly planted inside Shaman Choi’s body and utilizes it to switch his soul to Yun-oh.
Bu-yeon agrees to the Unanimous Assembly’s order but her condition which was relayed to Wook at a separate discussion was for him to kill one existing soul shifter.
Acquiescing to Bu-yeon’s demand, Wook finds her in front of the tree meaningful to her at Danhyanggok. The truce they initially established vanishes as they stay the night in their loving arms.
Alchemy of Souls Part 2 Episode 9 Musings
Always making sure to put each relevant character in the spotlight, Alchemy of Souls Part 2 continues to punctuate the growth of the characters. In this episode, we finally affirm that Bu-yeon’s remark about Prince Won’s warm heart is indeed true.
On that note, Shin Seung Ho’s supporting role in this series has been undeniably entertaining. Honestly, he is being shaped to be worthy of the throne, and we can agree that he is. Acknowledging what he lacks, he has been willing to make up for it.
Likewise, Hwang Min Hyun continues to impress with his phenomenal portrayal as well. If you don’t know him to be an idol, you’d think he has been an actor ever since. In fact, he formed a new second lead syndrome prototype for coloring Yul with an endearing hue.
Master Kim gives another theory of how the soul of Jin Seol-ran might have been inside the ice stone and remnants of it might have remained in Bu-yeon when she was saved from the dead when she was born.
The preview to the final episode suggests forlorn and the spark to the real war that cannot be avoided anymore. Lamentably, Jin Mu’s influence had already settled deep, even involving the king and some respected members of the assembly in their quest in obtaining the power of the ice stone.
Can Jang Wook protect the ice stone with his life? Will Daeho fall to an irreversible danger?
