Let Me Be Your Knight

Trust an accidental kiss to spark an ounce of magic. Albeit choosing to ignore that it happened, the lead pair of Let Me Be Your Knight is slowly getting closer.

Let Me Be Your Night kdramadiary

“Remember what happened last night?”

Stopping Tae-in from sleepwalking, Yun-ju ends up sacrificing her lips. Woo-yeon who sees her mulling over the unexpected kiss that just happened offers to help her and carries Tae-in to the nearby sofa. It turns out that Woo-yeon saw the accidental kiss while Tae-in was feigning to be asleep.

Back at their respective rooms, Yun-ju and Tae-in clearly remember the kiss and have different woes on how it will impact them. They settle in deciding to pretend it did not happen.

The next day, the three find each other at the dining room seemingly oblivious about what happened the other night. Just then, Woo-yeon blurts if they remembered what happened last night. So, Yun-ju quickly dispels the “kissing” incident by rushing to explain his sleepwalking episode.

Just then, Yoo-chan and Ga-on who were both talking about a drama they were tuning in mentioned: “unexpected kiss” which made both Yun-ju and Tae-in flustered.

After breakfast, Woo-yeon also gives a few useful stuff to Yun-ju that she can use while monitoring Tae-in when she’s inside her tent.

“Own up to what you did! You promised to pretend to be trying in front of CEO Moon.”

With an upcoming music event coming up, CEO Moon checks Yun-ju on  Tae-in’s condition. She responds the treatment progress does not happen fast. Wanting to be assured that Tae-in is taking the treatment seriously, CEO Moon relays wanting to witness the treatment in person.

After agreeing with the CEO, Yun-ju marches to meet Tae-in. But using words alluding to their “unexpected kiss” made him nervous that she’ll bring out what he did. Presenting the lineup of small activities they will do, Yun-ju softly chides her non-cooperative patient. She reminds him that CEO Moon is keenly observing.

Working on an artwork using small beads, Tae-in got inspiration while staring at Yun-ju’s sleeping face. But his music conception gets interrupted when she sneezed. He hurries to his room to work on the music but her sneezing causes him trouble focusing.

“Did you just jump over the wall? Where have you been?”

When not donning their idol personas, LUNA members engage in personal activities. Gaon goes for judo sessions while Shin and Yoo-chan work on a radio show. Contrary to his bright demeanor, Yoo-chan nurses a frustrating life with his mom making him pay for her shopping needs.

In the radio show, Shin’s reason for all those sneaky nights was revealed. He has been dating the senior radio announcer Ji-yeon (Ha Young). Meanwhile, Woo-yeon and Yun-ju who had since settled well with each other agree to be each other’s confidantes over a beer-drinking session.

When Woo-yeon gets more drinks inside, Yun-ju surmises how she needs allies to live comfortably in the house assessing Woo-yeon already counts. Just then, she sees Shin who made an alibi that he was out for a walk. But the lipstick mark on his cheek gives away a secret late-night date.

Taking advantage of the situation, Yun-ju tries to use his secret to make an ally pact. But Shin has a trump card and reveals he also knows her secret of kissing Tae-in. Hence, they should protect each other.

Getting back inside, Shin who knows Woo-yeon feels a special connection with Yun-ju assures him that he is cheering for him. However, he also truthfully reminds him how people genuinely like him, but Tae-in is a born champion who can seize any moment at ease.

“See? There’s no one who recognizes you. So relax and enjoy this freely.”

The next day, Yun-ju drags her patient for mountain hiking. Disguising him with a neon-colored outfit, she was confident that no one will recognize him. Reaching the peak, Yun-ju goes to her business of proposing the stuck-up idol to develop a hobby to relieve stress. But he dismisses his idea since he does not have time to waste because of music-making.

Yun-ju gets instant good karma laughing out loud when Tae-in experienced becoming a photographer for the grandmas who don’t recognize him.

Waiting for the manager to pick them up, Yun-ju imposes on two schoolgirls badmouthing LUNA. Before she causes trouble, Tae-in drags her out of the scene. Back at the house, they were greeted by Tae-in’s father. Instead of catching up nicely, the famous pianist gives an earful to his son, even accusing that he could be on drugs because of the recent troubles he caused due to sleepwalking.

Sarcastically responding with a laugh when Tae-in defended the music he makes, the pompous pianist tells his son that he doesn’t listen to failed music. He continues with his verbal assault of reminding his son to be perfect so as not to humiliate his reputation. In a flashback, child Tae-in is seen on strict training by his father in playing the piano. That painful memory runs on Tae-in as he listens to his father’s verbal abuse.

All the while, Tae-in meekly accepts the harsh words, but when his father was about to leave, he tells him how he can only say those things when they haven’t met for a while. Unfortunately, Yun-ju who was about to bring refreshments sees the blatant argument that just happened between them.

The visit from Tae-in’s father caused an arduous practice time for LUNA members. Woo-yeon has to stop Tae-in as his fingers already bleeding. Stepping out of the room, Yun-ju sees his wounded hand and worries about it. But Tae-in dismisses her kindness as crossing the line.

At night, bothered by the sound coming from Tae-in’s room, Yun-ju musters the courage to enter his room. She finds him bumping his head on the wall so she uses her hand to shield his forehead. When he stopped what he was doing, he pins Yun-ju on the floor, choking her neck with his bare hands.

Let Me Be Your Knight Episode 3 Musings

All the virtual encouragement we have been sending Yun-ju is at least working. From Tae-in’s previous flat-out rejections, they are now able to carry normal conversations. Of course, the cliffhanger this episode reflects how dangerous Tae-in’s condition is. It has escalated from indirectly harming himself, and now harming others.

But we can rest assured that the heroine’s words are reaching Tae-in. He is just too emotionally wounded that he needs more affirmation that he does not need to please everybody, even his father. He just needs to accept genuine love from people who truly care for him.

Presenting the backstories, family backgrounds and personal secrets of the characters in the early onset of the series makes the viewers empathize well with Yun-ju and LUNA members.

I love the vibrant colors incorporated in the cinematography of Let Me Be Your Knight. The actors themselves have naturally beautiful looks, but they really glow differently in the series. Like there are invisible backlights making them more stunning.

Let Me Be Your Knight

It’s a pity this series runs only once a week and will only last 12 episodes since it is really a nice, relaxing watch. It doesn’t go over the top and plays on its strength well. Also, as promised by the director, I am waiting for new music to be featured in the series.

Enjoying Yun-ju’s treatment ideas this episode hopefully makes us see more in the subsequent episodes. Notably, we can see how the writing is opening the stories not just for the lead pair and the love triangle. We can also anticipate stories from Yoo-chan, Shin and Gaon as the story moves along.

Don’t miss the music, fun and healing moments in Let Me Be Your Knight on iQiyi!
