Disney+ 2024 K-Content Roster: “Blood Free”, “Uncle Samsik”, “Light Shop” and More

In Blood Free, Han Hyo Joo portrays Yoon Jayu, a mysterious CEO and the target of widespread condemnation following her company’s disruptive effect on global agriculture. She is committed to realizing a future where no animals are hurt and no land is destroyed to feed the human race.

Once restrained by problematic legislation that restricted the sale of lab-cultivated meat for human consumption, Jayu’s ambitions were unleashed following the repeal of the law in the months immediately after a terrorist attack.

With her company, BF, now causing massive disruption across many of the world’s industries, Jayu has become the target of threats and attacks from farmers, hackers, drug cartels and more, but with BF now enjoying record profits as an indirect result of that fateful day, could there be more to this altruistic CEO than meets the eye?

Han Hyo Joo reveals that writer Lee Suyeon was the reason why she participated in Blood Free.

“I loved her work on Stranger and as soon as I heard that she’d written Blood Free I was immediately interested. I blazed through the scripts for episodes 1 and 2 and thought they were amazing. I was thrilled to be offered a great script based on such a thought-provoking topic that resonates with the planet’s current problems.

Describing her character as barely revealing her feelings, Han said it was an interesting challenge for her to try and convey the subtle nuances of Jayu’s emotions.

That being said she expressed her character preparations.

I had my hair cut short after keeping it long for a considerable time and paid a great deal of attention to the costumes to create an image that best suited Yun Jayu. I also spent a lot of time asking the writer questions about the character to better portray her. It was important to me that I stay true to the writer’s original intentions rather than improvise elements of the character.”

When asked if she has something in common with her latest character, Han responded how the story features two groups of people – those who try to dominate and monopolize, and those who maintain their humanity and think in the interests of the majority of the population.

She added, “The initial part of the story raises questions about which group Yun Jayu sides with, and whichever it is, I relate to her stance to see it!

Regarding her memorable moment while filming, Han remarked they shot the exterior of the BF buildings and some of its interior spaces in a city called Sacheon. Even though it was a long drive to the city, she enjoyed staying in a dormitory with all the staff and crew so everyone could become friends more quickly. She also had great memories of watching the World Cup together with them.

Expounding more on Blood Free’s message, the celebrated actress assures an intriguing and resonating story.

The premise of the story really resonates with our times, so I wouldn’t choose a particular group to recommend the series to. I think it’s even more fun to watch if you try to place yourself in the shoes of the characters and think about what you would do in their situations. Also, as this is a story by Lee Suyeon, so you know there’ll be numerous mysteries that will intrigue you.”

Stream Blood Free starting April 10 exclusively on Disney+.
