K-Drama First Look: “L.U.C.A.: The Beginning” Kicks Off To An Electrifying Hero Journey That Does Not Disappoint

Action-packed with a thrilling drive that does not subside, L.U.C.A.: The Beginning is a gift for thriller junkies!

Kim Rae Won especially sealed his small screen comeback in a peerless attitude for L.U.C.A.: The Beginning. Consider you’re forewarned because you can literally feel the exhaustion of the hero being chased in the opening chapters.

L.U.C.A.: The Beginning Opening Week Story

Time is ticking for Human Tech, a shady research laboratory specializing in genetics and mutation. In the brink of losing the business, a ray of hope emerged after learning one of the lab’s escaped subject resurfaced. Thus, began their chase of retrieving Ji-oh (Z-0) (Kim Rae Won). However, it is not an easy task since realizing he lost his memory, he is not at all friendly.

More than that, he can literally sense the men chasing after him are not going to give good news. Barely escaping death because of them, Ji-oh relied on his strange ability to shoot electric voltage from his body. However, the police joins the chase because of a murder they are investigating.

The newly-transferred plucky police officer Gu Reum (Lee Da Hee) is particularly eager to catch Ji-oh because of her lifetime goal to uncover the mystery of her parents’ passing.

Pressed with time, Ji-oh runs for his life hoping for the answers to who he is and why he is being pursued. Interestingly, Gu Reum who has been running after him, seems to be drawing him to rescue her when she faces life-threatening situations.

L.U.C.A.: The Beginning Opening Week Musings

tvN’s newest treat is arduously satisfying to a point that all the love vibes I got from the romance series I tuned in recently was stripped in one blow. *chuckles

I hope the intensity stays the same for the remaining 10 chapters. While we got a vague overview of its cryptic story, it sparingly encouraged curiosity. After all the burdensome chasing, we really need the answers to a lot of questions raised in the premiere episodes.

Packed with enthralling action scenes, L.U.C.A.: The Beginning sports quite a unique crime narrative that hopefully won’t go askew. I don’t know why, but LUCA reminds me of Kim Rae Won’s acclaimed film, Sunflower.

His helpless yet valiant mood creates a picture of underdog hero that easily reels support. It totally matches Lee Da Hee’s deviation from her usual glamorous roles.

It might appear daunting, but L.U.C.A.: The Beginning grips the moment you start watching it. Given its formidable creative team, its cinematic mood is really apparent and astounding. So, if you are in the mood for an exciting plot, I strongly vouch you tune in to this series.

L.U.C.A.: The Beginning is streamed on iQIYI.
