Reborn Rich Opening Week Story
“Pride is a luxury for only those who can actually leave the lifestyle behind.”
Freshly released from the charges against Soonyang, Chairman Jin Young-ki holds a bust unveiling ceremony for his late father, the company’s founder. Barging into Chairman Jin’s office, Seong-jun announces that he will renounce his inheritance after knowing the truth of the accident in the past, which makes Chairman Jin fall into a heart attack.
Competent in his job, Senior Manager Yoon Hyeon-woo and new hire Assistant Manager Shin successfully bring Seong-jun back to the event despite his violent outburst.
On the death anniversary of his mother, Hyeon-woo mocks his father for telling him to have a family. He then later gets called by Soonyang’s legal team, so nothing gets found on the prosecution’s search and seizure.
Visiting Chairman Jin in the hospital, the wife of Soonyang’s fourth son offers her 3% shares in the company to know the truth about her son’s accident.
“When it’s a neck-and-neck fight, the one with less enemies will win.”
Assistant Manager Shin arranges the files as instructed by Hyeon-woo. Handed a document not part of the list, Hyeon-woo goes to Mr. Kim, but he shreds it while requesting his silence.
Hyeon-woo comes back to Seong-jun after being thanked for his service, reporting about the document on the siphoned money of Soonyang to an overseas paper company. Concluding that Mr. Kim betrayed him, Seong-jun listens to Hyeon-woo and delegates him to retrieve the money.
Unknown to them, a recording of their conversation gets presented to Prosecutor Seo Min-young to indict Seong-jun. Later, Ye-jun comes up to Seong-jun to tell her intentions of taking over the slush fund.
Successfully retrieving the money, Hyeon-woo gets chased and killed abroad. Sinking in the waters, he wakes up as Jin Do-jun in the year 1987.
“I just came back from my death. Do you think there is anything I’ll be afraid of?”
As what he has read in Jin Yang-cheol’s autobiography, exact events unfold in Do-jun’s eyes. However, he has no memories of 4-2.
While he is there to apologize to his grandfather, Do-jun gives his unsolicited opinion about politics, which stuns Chairman Jin Yang-cheol. Aware that the plane his grandfather was riding will be crashing, Do-jun relays his answer to his quiz, which saves the chairman’s life.
In that, the chairman succeeds in buying Youngjin semiconductors and supporting the right politicians. Asked if he’s from the future, Do-jun tells the chairman that he knows what’s in his grandfather’s heart.
Granted a reward of land in Bundang, Do-jun strikes a deal with his grandfather of entering the top law school, which makes his family acknowledged by the chairman.
“You don’t become rich by working hard. It’s up to the heavens.”
Growing his money through his land in Bundang, Do-jun converts his money into dollars with his grandfather’s knowledge. Hwa-young then sows a seed of doubt to her brothers on whether a test for the company’s successor is ongoing.
Watching the retirement of Seo Taiji and the Boys, Hyeon-woo feels amazed to see young Seo Min-young. Later, he goes to New York with his father and brother. He accidentally bumps into Mason Oh who invests in Titanic the movie. Researching Mr. Oh’s position in Power Shares, Do-jun convinces him to invest in IBM and open investments in the US market.
“Never bet on things that you aren’t sure about.”
Do-jun visits his grandparents right away after his trip, which threatens Young-ki of his position after being pressured to buy Hando Steel with 300 million dollars. Young-ki gets reassured by Mr. Lee to focus on the given chance by Chairman Jin.
Knowing what the future holds, Do-jun secures a meal together with Min-young in exchange for revealing when Seo Taiji will come back. However, she gets disappointed and walks out after he brings her to the Prestigious club.
Soonyang’s Jin Yang-cheol and Jin Young-ki become alarmed after hearing that foreign investment Power Shares takes Hando Steel with 500 million dollars. Explaining himself to Mr. Oh who pledges to keep his investor’s secrets, Do-jun reveals his interest in becoming Soonyang’s owner.
Reborn Rich Opening Week Musings
Off with a strong beginning, Reborn Rich delivers a promising story filled with edifying points. Though at first learning the relations of the characters may be confusing, the time switch helps in grasping the family tree of the Jin family.
Watching the first three episodes, there’s already a lot to admire in the drama. In addition to the swooning visuals and acting of Song Joong Ki, the elements used in the time change could capture viewers’ interest.
Firstly, the drama’s way of bridging the time switch by changing Hyeon-woo’s POV is impressive. Along with that, political and technological advancements of the period are highlighted in a way that it blends with the running narrative. Brushing up with historical events may be suggested to have a good grasp of the plot’s context.
Yoon Hyeon-woo is given a new chance in life through Jin Do-jun. He still has outstanding skills and competence like in his past life, but his loyalty to the family has long dissolved after being betrayed.
His motives in his new life become well-directed. Evidently, as the youngest grandson of Chairman Jin, Do-jun’s set of opportunities is way better than Hyeon-woo’s. Utilizing his knowledge of the future, Hyeon-woo’s journey of revenge becomes more gripping to watch in the next episodes.
