Rookie Cops Opening Week Story
Bent to enter the school where her former tutor and crush studies, Ko Eun-kang (Chae Soo Bin) hopes to enter police university as a freshman. Her first attempt failed though. Luckily, another spot opened and she was given a chance to join the newbie batch albeit a bit late.
There she meets again Wi Seung-hyun (Kang Daniel), the top qualifier of their batch. Previously, she had an encounter with him when she defended her sister who broke up with his friend.
Seung-hyun accused her sister of being a gold digger since she had already started dating a week after the breakup with his friend. Thus, she ensured that the gift her sister received will be returned.
But she escapes with her sister when the new guy her sister is dating reads the situation. Seung-hyun gets an unexpected punch when he was just trying to help.
Meeting again, both share the stubborn attitude of being unable to stand injustice. They also get on the wrong foot of their trainers.
The Switched Jacket
Unfortunately for Seung-tak, a jacket switch caused her to be in detention for allegedly filming the harsh training punishment.
As the abolition of KPNU program is being raised by lawmakers, the higher-ups of the school hope to not encounter anything that would push the proposal.
She tries to seek help from Seung-hyun, but he refuses. It turns out that Seung-tak’s roommate Gi Han-na (Park Yoo Na) is the real culprit.
While searching for evidence in their room she’s forbidden to enter because of her case, Han-na heads to discover what she’s trying to do.
Rookie Cops Opening Week Musings
Providing a peek into the world of rookie cops on training, the opening week of the series revealed the characters to focus on.
What’s worth praising definitely is the attention to present the real deal campus life. Both tribulations and small joys are clearly presented.
In South Korea, graduates of KNPU automatically receive a higher rank when joining the police force. Their tuition and school expenses are also shouldered by the government apart from monthly allowance. Thus, it’s hard to get into the program.
Accordingly, in the series, different backgrounds of the young potential constables are so far presented. Moving forward to unravel more about their reasons would be one of the driving points to look forward to in the series.
While we have yet to see Kang Daniel’s significant shining moment, his foray into acting was well-handled by his commitment so far.
Most likely Chae Soo Bin will carry the bulk of emotions while he goes for a “boy friday” mood with her.
Them together looking great onscreen at least gives us a sweet tease when romance hits the story.
For a school-set series, it appears going for more depth than the usual stories of students we’ve seen previously.
We might miss school bullying as a staple conflict but I think it will go to an abuse of power route.
More than that, the motivational mood to work on career goals as students with your peers would be the bankable message Rookie Cops aims to achieve.
Witness the triumphs and hardships of the determined young blood of KNPU in Rookie Cops every Wednesday and Thursday!
