K-Drama First Look: “Soundtrack #1” Sweetly Serves Unexpressed and Unrealized Love Stories Between Two Long-Time Friends

Soothingly adorable and romantic, we hope to witness the special friendship morphing into a special true love in Soundtrack #1!

Humming a light, romantic tune, the series mesmerizes with its saccharine premise. Park Hyung Sik and Han So Hee supersize the love idea about two friends who refuse to cross the romance line between them.

Soundtrack #1 Opening Week Story

Friends for over 19 years, Han Sun-woo (Park Hyung Sik) and Lee Eun-soo (Han So Hee) share a special relationship. A kind of bond when they know they have to be at each other’s side.

While working on a current project, Eun-soo gets Sun-woo to take her profile picture before heading to a meeting with a song producer.

Unfortunately, her submitted lyrical composition lacks the punch. But she begs the producer to give her another chance to polish it.

“I poured my heart out into those lyrics. What’s so special about unrequited love? If you feel fuzzy, if you like him, if you miss him, then just ask him out.  It’s that simple. Why does unrequited love have to be so sad and painful?”

Sun-woo, meanwhile, tells his agent that his photos are still not enough for an exhibit. It frustrates his manager since his first exhibit was met with great success.

Sensing a disaster that befell Eun-soo, he goes to where she is and listens to her rant about unrequited love. Deducing her meeting didn’t go well, he learned about her bargain to make the song lyrics right in two weeks.

He enlightens her about the difference between one-sided and mutual love. Surprised to hear his thoughts make sense, she thinks he experienced it when he was overseas.

With that, she proposes for him to live with her before he leaves the country again in two weeks. She aims to have an assistant that can help her get an opportunity to be freed from her “nameless lyricist” fate.

“Everything feels like a lie. Nowadays, I don’t even know what photographs to take. Even when I do, it does not feel genuine.”

Initially refusing Eun-soo’s proposal since he knows he lives in a messy place, he is left no choice but to raise her depleting self-esteem.

Sun-woo also shares that his exhibit will be postponed. He relays how his works seem to be insincere so he wants to start again.

Cutely asking her to spill the beans about his crush, he remains firmly vague about it. He walks her home and gets a quick pep talk to express his feelings so they can flow to his pictures.  She urges him to confess his feelings to his crush.

“We can never break up. If we don’t want to break up, we have to remain friends forever. I miss even a bastard like my ex. If we date and break up, how am I supposed to live?”

While browsing Eun-soo’s photos, Sun-woo recalls a memory of her bad breakup four years ago. Their common friend nominated Sun-woo to be the perfect guy for Eun-soo. But she strongly denounces it for fear of losing him. Something that she cannot afford.

The next day, she wakes up from strong knocks on her door. When she opened it, Sun-woo rushed to get inside with his luggage.

Claiming the proposal she raised the other day, Sun-woo first helps tidy the place and cook a sumptuous meal for his new boss.

Makgeolli intoxicated Eun-soo finds the warmth of Sun-woo’s body as she dozes. In the morning, Sun-woo tenderly stares at the beautiful face of his best friend. Just then, she opens her eyes and meets his gaze.

Soundtrack #1 Opening Week Musings

Shaping up to another worth-watching “unrequited love” series, Soundtrack #1 is made especially sweet by the striking synergy between Park Hyung Sik and Han So Hee.

That “event four years ago” is the culprit for why the romance didn’t progress for the two. We know that Sun-woo was intending to confess, but respecting Eun-soo’s label of their relationship, he relents to keep the friendship.

We hope that he listened to Eun-soo’s pep talk and uses the next two weeks to find inspiration for his exhibit and win her heart.

Swiftly paced, Soundtrack #1 fascinates with interspersed flashbacks that connect faint clues on Sun-woo’s unrequited love.

Dubbed a “romance music” drama, the songs featured heightens the narrative mood and lead couples’ friendship and love journey.

Despite its predictable route, Park and Han give refreshing colors to their roles individually while enhancing their love pairing with dulcet notes.

Hopefully, the sweetly melodious first episode flows its honeyed tune for the remaining three episodes.
