A Global Vision for APAC Storytelling

Carol Choi, EVP of Original Content Strategy for The Walt Disney Company Asia Pacific, emphasized the growing influence of APAC storytelling:

“Stories from Asia Pacific are now integral to general entertainment. These are world-class productions with global resonance and deeply passionate fandoms worldwide.”

Choi highlighted that nine out of Disney+’s top 15 international originals last year were Korean titles, a testament to the region’s storytelling prowess. Current hits include A Shop for Killers, Disney+’s most-watched series in APAC, and Are You Sure?!, starring BTS’s Jimin and Jung Kook, which has become the platform’s leading unscripted title.

The showcase reaffirmed Disney’s commitment to pushing creative boundaries. Choi remarked:

The most compelling stories can come from unknown worlds and new formats, but they must remain rooted in authenticity and exceptional quality. APAC is rapidly becoming a global hub of creative inspiration.”

With over 130 APAC Originals launched since 2021, Disney+ continues to amplify the region’s diverse storytelling, bringing Asia Pacific’s rich heritage and modern narratives to global audiences.
