“Juvenile Justice” Hypes Intrigue With Creative Team’s Preparations To Present A Well-Contrived Series

Netflix previews a teaser poster which features the four judges and young law offenders set to enlighten viewers in Juvenile Justice.

Juvenile Justice unveils a teaser poster that clearly depicted the long-awaited narrative of rookie writer Kim Min Seok from the perspective of seasoned director Hong Jong Chan.

The series narrates the stories of law offenders who commit crimes at a young age and Shim Eun-suk (Kim Hye Soo), a judge who despises criminals of minor age. She is then assigned to the district court’s juvenile department.

Moreover, Juvenile Justice began with writer Kim, who took an interest in the story of a judge, which the media didn’t cover as much as the stories of lawyers and prosecutors.

Knowing that judges exist in a variety of sectors, writer Kim grew particularly interested in the juvenile department’s operations. Specifically, how juvenile criminals are dealt with and tried, as well as how judges prepare and render decisions.

While continuing to research her concept, writer Kim Min Seok listened to the truth about juvenile crime that the media had yet to witness and the stories of several people working in the field.

He began by interviewing five to 60 people, as well as visiting family courts, juvenile courts, juvenile classification reviewers and youth recovery centers.

Writer Kim Min Seok and Director Hong Jong Chan

Writer Kim Min Seok mentioned that he meticulously wrote the story and listened to the narrative’s various pivotal figures.

It’s really amazing that people in this position think about their children. I tried to write sensitively so as not to hurt them. I listened to the various voices of judges, investigators, court staff, facility officials, lawyers, etc.

Accordingly, four judges emerge, each with a unique set of ideas and attitudes toward juvenile criminals. Their contrasting opinions prompt viewers to consider what society’s true demands are for young criminals.

Apart from that, director Hong Jong Chan, who helmed notable works such as Dear My Friends, Life, and Her Private Life, discusses the arduous task ahead of him and his joy at reading the script.

It will be difficult to meet such a project after receiving the scenario. I thought I had to do it. I pondered that the stories being dealt with in Juvenile Justice is not someone else’s concern, but a problem that is closely related to our surroundings, where I can become the parent of the perpetrator or victim one day.”

Representing Four Diverse Judges Inside The Court

The released teaser poster, which has a stark black and white contrast and a red title, piques the audience’s interest in the stories they will convey through the varied atmospheres of numerous juvenile offenders and four judges with varying emotions.

Subsequently, Kim Hye Soo recalls her first encounter with the story of Juvenile Justice.

I was surprised that such a story could be written. It was nice to think that it was a series that viewers had no choice but to ponder together, and I was happy that the work came to me.”

Kim Moo Yeol, who portrays Judge Cha Tae-joo, looked at a juvenile offender with a different perspective from Shim Eun-seok. He said, “I was naturally drawn to it because it was a story I was interested in. I liked the purpose of the work, so I wanted to do it together.”

Likewise, Lee Sung Min, who plays Chief Judge Kang Won-jung, noted that the series wanted a more proactive and specific answer. This compelled him to join in the anticipated project.

Juvenile Justice was a work that sought a more active and specific solution. The trial scene in the juvenile court was also fresh and different from the existing courtroom.”

Finally, Lee Jung Eun depicts Na Geun-hee, another judge with a bitter personality. He discussed how Juvenile Justice may serve as a mirror image of the society in which people already live.

As an actor, it was nice to see that a work that could capture the image of the society we are facing came out.”

Meanwhile, Juvenile Justice will premiere exclusively on Netflix on February 25th.
