In the play, Lee Joon-gi plays the roles of Eunseom, the reincarnation of Inaishingi who unified the thirty Ago clans and became the head of the Ago Union; and Saya Tagon’s adopted son and commander-in-chief of the Arthdal army.

Showing off his first dual-role performance, attention is focused on Lee Joon Gi’s ability to delicately express twin brothers who were born with different fates and lived lives in different environments through the acting experience he has accumulated over the years.

Character Preparations

Lee Joon Gi, who will show off his two-person role as Eun-seom and Saya conveys his preparations for the roles.

As an actor, I was very curious to draw the ambivalent feelings and appearances of Eun-seom and Saya, who were brothers but had to live completely different lives. I also had a strong desire to take on the challenge. Eight years have passed, so I tried not to miss the process of inferring and imagining the lives of the two people. It was important to bridge the gap and continue. It was a really difficult work.”

In particular, Lee’s detailed inner acting, which will depict the two people’s past narratives in detail, is a point to watch. His eyes and voice will capture the attention of viewers by portraying the brothers Eunseom, a strong leader who is trusted by all of the Ago tribe, and Saya, who is always struggling with loneliness on his own as the successor to Arthdal.

In addition, the tense and sharp tension between the two brothers, who inevitably face each other as enemies, is portrayed in an immersive way with intense action and charisma, and Lee Joon Gi is expected to vaunt his powerful potential without hesitation.

At the production press conference for The Sword of Aramun, Lee Joon Gi reveals the efforts that went into creating his characters.

Internally, Eunseom has longing and pain for his brother, a deep yearning for Tanya, and a desire for revenge to defeat Tagon. Since this is a character who would have grown up with complex emotions, I continued to worry on set to portray him in a delicate way. Because I had to draw the narrative of two characters, there were some parts I might have missed, so I received a lot of help from the director, actors, and field staff in those areas.”

He continued, “In the case of Eunseom and Saya, they each had their own characters, so we continued to talk with them and get ideas. To get rid of this burden or fear, I thought, ‘Let’s not leave the site,’” he said, expressing his passion for the work.

Lee Joon Gi, who always pays attention to more complete immersion as an acting all-rounder, moves through various eras and shows brilliant performances regardless of the genre of each work. He has continuously proven that he is a genre-level actor by showing off his excellent acting ability in each work he appears in.

The Sword of Aramun will be broadcast for the first time on September 9th at 9:20 pm. International fans can watch it on Disney+ beginning September 16.
