Swerving away from their typical roles, Lee Yi Kyung and Song Ha Yoon challenge hateable characters in the new tvN series.
Marry My Husband is about a woman who was murdered after witnessing her husband’s affair with her best friend. She returns to the past 10 years ago and gets a chance to redo her life. It aims for a story of retribution where the female lead claims back her destiny.
Based on the popular web novel of the same name, the series will be adapted to drama by writer Shin Yu-dam of the drama Awaken, and directed by Park Won-guk of Poong, The Joseon Psychiatrist, Special Labor Inspector Mr. Jo and Emperor: The Owner of the Mask fame.
Park Min Young (Love In Contract, Forecasting Love and Weather) plays the role of Kang Ji-won, who was murdered by her husband and best friend and returned 10 years ago to start a new life.

In the drama, Lee Yi Kyung and Song Ha Yoon play the roles of Kang Ji-won’s husband Park Min-hwan and best friend Jung Soo-min, respectively.
Park Min-hwan is the worst husband on earth who ignores his wife and entrusts her with not only housework but also filial piety. Moreover, instead of caring for his cancer-stricken wife, he commits murder when his affair with her friend Jung Soo-min is discovered.
Next, Jung Soo-min also stayed by Kang Ji-won’s side since her childhood and took on the role of her best friend, but the reality was different. Not only is there gaslighting that shakes Kang Ji-won’s mentality behind her lovely and fragile face, but she also takes away everything she owns one by one, and her husband, Park Min-hwan, doesn’t feel any remorse for taking it for herself.
Character Preparations
Regarding the reason for choosing the work, Lee Yi Kyung said, “Park Min-hwan is a bad man who has an exit but no entrance. From the time I first received the script, it caught my eye because he was an unambiguous and clearly bad character, and that was the most attractive part.”
Song Ha Yoon also said, “The script was interesting, and Jung Soo-min’s unconvincing side was interesting.”
Both actors showed a strong attraction to the character’s characteristics.
As Park Min-hwan and Jeong Soo-min are both hateful characters whose superiority and inferiority cannot be determined, differentiation was needed in expressing the personalities of the characters.
Lee Yi-kyung said, “I tried to make sure that Park Min-hwan was not seen as just a comical character. We focused on controlling the strength and weakness to dramatically express his dual aspects.”
Echoing her co-star’s character preparation, Song Ha Yoon shared, “To hide Jung Su-min’s two-faced face, I tried to differentiate her complex emotions and psychology with a costume concept that utilized various colors. On the other hand, unlike the complex and delicate psychology, I wanted to portray Su-min’s life simply.”
Marry My Husband will premiere at 8:50 pm on January 1, 2024. International fans can watch it on Prime Video.
