“Payback” Previews Lee Sun Kyun and Moon Chae Won In Character To Take Down Rich and Powerful Crime Offenders

The lead stars of Payback enthuse viewers with recently unfurled character stills.

Slated to premiere next year on January 6, SBS’ new Friday-Saturday drama, Payback, is a thriller-mystery business drama directed by Lee Won Tae and written by Kim Won Seok. It stars Lee Sun Kyun (Diary Of A Prosecutor, My Mister), Moon Chae Won (Flower Of Evil), Kang Yoo Seok (Growing Season), Park Hoon (Remarriage and Desires) and Kim Hong Pa (The Fiery Priest).

The drama depicts a thrilling tale of vengeance, following those who will risk everything to take down a cartel of wealthy criminals who have conspired with the government.

Reticent Money Merchant Eun-yong

In Payback, Lee Sun Kyun takes on the role of Eun-yong, the CEO of a global private equity fund that earns astronomical profits.

Eun-yong lived in Mongolia and was called a “reclusive money merchant”. Then, he returns to his homeland after 10 years, vowing desperate revenge. Eun-yong, who left Korea saying that he would never come back, raises expectations as to the reason for his return.

Notably, Lee filmed in Mongolia for six days and four nights. He even learned the Mongolian language and practiced horseback riding.

Relaying his thoughts about the filming experience in Mongolia, the actor also invites the viewers to watch Payback when it premieres.

“I went to Mongolia for the first time through filming, and I was very surprised. It felt like being on another planet. I think it will be a cool and enjoyable scene for the viewers as well.”

Vengeance-Driven Joon-kyung

Meanwhile, Moon Chae Won portrays Park Joon-kyung, a former prosecutor who became a top-ranking judicial officer.

In Payback, she is an upright and righteous prosecutor than anyone else, but when her mother became the victim of her cartel, she risked everything she had and became desperate to start revenge

Correspondingly, the stills released showing Joon-kyung captured her in restrained agony in front of her mother’s tomb.

Seemingly mysterious men approach her and she just looks at them with an unwavering stare. It raises questions about the story of her mother’s cryptic death.

The production team lauds Moon’s passion for doing her best in each scene with deep concern and a serious work attitude.
