PRESS CONFERENCE: “The Veil” Targets Realistic and Radical Espionage Story

Aiming to delve into the core of the National Intelligence Service, The Veil has been garnering attention for its solid story and cast.

At the recent drama presentation, the lead stars and PD Kim Sung Yong opened up about their experiences and thoughts about their latest project.

Highlighting how The Veil dug deeply into the secret service organization and focused on it, PD Kim assured realistically captured conflicts within the organization through the help he received while doing extensive research.

“The actors increased the essence. Not only Namgoong Min but all the actors act like NIS staff. Realism is added. Realistic and substantial characterization is our drama’s unique distinction and strength.”

Revealing his confidence in the male lead of The Veil, PD Kim shared as soon as he read the script, Namgoong Min came to his mind. Likewise, Park Ha Sun, also deemed matching to her role with her attractiveness and charisma.

Meanwhile, Kim Ji Eun who bested the audition brings out a fresh, natural, realistic, and multi-faceted actress.

Remarking satisfaction to the lead cast, PD Kim is grateful for their hard work that also provided him strength spearheading the production.

Namgoong Min’s Highly-Anticipated Character

Taking the role of the main character, Han Ji-hyuk, the actor revealed how the complexity of The Veil attracted him.

Namgoong-min takes on the role of the main character, Han Ji-hyuk. Although he was the object of ‘awe’ by his colleagues for his thorough and perfect work performance,

“Attractive dramas are currently in trend. I was feeling a bit tired of that type of drama, and I was wandering around looking for other formats. The script for The Veil was too heavy. I really wanted to do it.”

Famed for his remarkable drama characters, Namgoong Min has created such a portfolio that makes him a favorite of any production team. His notable works include Stove League, Doctor Prisoner and Good Manager.

He further conveyed how he enjoyed the script despite being written by a new writer. Praising the fluidity, genuine grit and tensions in the narrative, he vouched for an enthralling story for the viewers to watch.

Pouring out unfeigned effort for his latest character, he also shared bulking up his body by gaining weight through exercise and diet.

He adorably quipped, “It’s quite hard. I’m very tired and as soon as the drama filming is over, I’ll stop exercising and eat flour and delicious things.”

A Challenging Role for Park Ha Sun

After seeing the highlight video, the actress confidently claims the series will be fun and exciting.

“The more I read the script, the more interesting and expected it was. It was a character I had never played before,” Park said.

When asked about any difficulties preparing for her role, she earnestly looked forward to the experience than the challenges she’s bound to face.

“There are a lot of difficult lines and terms. It’s more difficult than a historical drama. I went to school. Practicing for my role was the only answer. Rather than being satisfied with myself, I am looking forward to seeing the viewers be satisfied.”

Kim Ji Eun’s First Leading Role

Kim Ji Eun, who was cast through an audition, joined the role of Han Ji-hyuk’s partner, Yoo Je-yi. She is a promising field agent and partner of Han Ji-hyuk within the National Intelligence Service.

Grateful for her newest character, she raves about the unpredictability of the series. “There were duality and ambivalence in things and events and characters that I thought were dark. It was attractive,” she mentioned.

Appearing in her first lead role on a terrestrial TV station, she expressed the diligence she exerted for her role.

“There will be many people who see me for the first time. As an actor who has been acting for 5 years, I am grateful to be able to greet many people for the first time through a good opportunity.”

Admitting she also felt pressured, she was thankful for the guidance from the director and senior actors.
