Kim Nam Joo’s first still from Wonderful World has been released.
When a professor’s son is killed without consequence, she will go to extraordinary lengths to exact her revenge in Wonderful World, a new Korean drama coming March 1 to Disney+.
After a successful career that saw Eun Soo-hyun climb to the top of her field as a professor of psychology and a household name as a writer, she is brought crashing back to earth following the death of her son at the hands of others. Driven into a spiraling depression, Soo-hyun becomes consumed by one thought – revenge.
Starring Kim Namjoo (Misty, Queen of Housewives) as Eun Soo-hyun, a successful professor suffering from depression following the death of her son; and Cha Eun Woo (True Beauty, A Good Day to be a Dog) as Gwon Seonyul, a medical school dropout who bonds with Soohyun over their similar traumas, Wonderful World is written by Kim Jieun (Lie After Lie, Cheongdam-dong Scandal) and directed by Yi Seungyoung (Tracer, Voice 2).
Wonderful World released the first filming still of Kim Nam Joo, who plays the role of Eun Soo-hyun signaling her return to the drama after 6 years.
In the released still, Kim Nam Joo steals attention with her shocking appearance wearing a shabby prison uniform in a bleak prison. Her empty expression, sitting on a bench in the prison playground and staring into space, seems to coexist with the sense of loss of losing her beloved son and happy life in an instant, and at the same time, the guilt of taking another person’s life.
Soo-hyun’s desperate longing for her lost son appears to be felt in the sight of Kim Nam Joo staring beyond the iron bars with a sad expression as if she is about to shed tears at any moment, raising curiosity about the events of ‘that day’ that drove her into a tragedy.
On the other hand, Kim Nam-joo’s delicate acting, which captures the complex and tragic narrative of the character Eun Soo-hyun with a single facial expression, is admirable. Accordingly, expectations are rising for her passionate performance as she reaffirms her reputation as a ‘drama queen’ by providing complete immersion and a strong presence.
MBC’s new Friday-Saturday drama Wonderful World starring Kim Nam Joo and Cha Eun Woo will premiere on March 1. International fans can watch it on Disney+.
