Bulgasal Immortal Souls

Bulgasal: Immortal Souls Episode 4 Key Moments

Min Si-ho is Pregnant

Rushing back to their place, Sang-un hurries to do their usual thing of leaving the neighborhood once a monster got hold of her. However, her sister Si-ho refuses to live the kind of life they’ve been doing. She reveals she’s pregnant and won’t compromise her child to a life of having no identity and friends.

Seeing the reincarnation of his wife made Hwal look back to what the village sage told him after burying his family. That the people will continue to be connected to him in their future lifetimes as long as the retribution is not achieved. They, too, still will be connected to his karma.

That same sage drags him out of his car and drives him back to his house. Her role in his life delivers animal blood for Hwal’s sustenance. When she left, he senses another presence in the house and finds Do-yun lurking inside. Explaining he worries about him, he also asks if he can crash on his place since he’s scared of the rich-guy monster who could be after him.

Ho-yeol agrees to work with his friend Mr. Gu and gets hold of Hwal’s contact number. But when he called, he was answered by Do-yun who was left with no choice but to give the address so he can be freed from Hwal’s locked-up.

“Kill Bulgasal with Bulgasal”

Ho-yeol brings Do-yun to the address he sees from Hwal’s things. At that moment, Si-ho who was alone almost confronted the monster who was chasing after her sister. Hwal keeps her safe and chases after the monster. Ho-yeol who gets the clue from Do-yun of who he’s looking for stops Hwal on the brink of killing the monster.

The surprise of seeing the face of his cherished adopted father who seems to harbor resentment on him in the present time halts his intended plan of killing the monster before claiming back his soul from Sang-un.

Sensing the man he ordered to tail Sang-un is in danger, he goes to where she is. At that time, the monster’s partner named “dark hole” is also at the same place ready to capture Sang-un. She was there to visit the grandmother who took care of them and try to get the forgotten words her sister told her. But her grandmother who appears to be her sister in her past life suffers an emotional attack. While crying, she keeps mumbling “kill bulgasal with bulgasal”.

Finally, Sang-un answers the call from Si-ho and learns of what happened to her. She also learns from Si-ho how touching the man who helped her gave a new experience to her. Si-ho thinks the man is not human at all. On her way to meet her sister, Sang-un is interrupted by another strange man (Lee Joon) who happily introduces himself as an insurance agent.

His real identity is also a bulgasal who uses the identity of Ok Eul-tae. He wants to discuss her grandmother’s insurance. When she sees his bloodied sleeve, thankfully, she has the presence of mind to run. However, she fails to escape and almost got harmed if not for Hwal’s raging vehicle that hit Eul-tae.

The Man With A Scar On His Hand

Running for her life, Hwal finds her hiding inside a tunnel. Soon after, Eul-tae who replenished his strength by eating his minion, approaches them. Thus, Hwal orders Sang-un to run in the other direction.

The two bulgasals meet for the first time both unaware of each other’s existence. The older bulgasal easily subdued Hwal and goes after Sang-un. Cornering her, Eul-tae preps to get his revenge, but he was seemingly put in a painful trance. Sang-un who seems unaware of the effect she just did gave time for her to be rescued by Hwal.

It then dawns on her the words of her grandmother of how evil bulgasal trying to kill her can only be vanquished by the bulgasal with a scar on his hand. That very same man is none other than Hwal.

Bulgasal: Immortal Souls Episode 4 Musings

It seems like Sang-un’s previous incarnation has quite a reputation of angering a now-ferocious bulgasal and turning a human into a new bulgasal. Piquing our interest more to details of Sang-un’s past bulgasal life, we got a clue from Eul-tae of his plight a thousand years ago which involves her.

There’s quite a lot to process, to be honest, given that Sang-un seems to possess a special power to weaken monsters. We are not sure if there are imprints of her old bulgasal self that is still within her, all the way to her multiple rebirths in different lifetimes.

It was already established that she can remember her past life, but we have still yet to unfurl why she was after Hwal in the Joseon era. Now, her connection to Ok Eul-tae (Lee Joon), adds a new reason to anticipate future episodes.

What started to be a mutual desire to kill each other sways differently from now on. In the preview episode, Eul-tae appears wanting to cut a deal with Hwal. He appears to keep Sang-un safe while checking on the bewildering situation stemming from the past.

This episode also gave an elevated explanation of how Hwal’s karma is transcendental. That the people from his past life will be connected to him inevitably. We also learned of how he had a chance to get his redemption before, but his inner self declined the chance because of Sang-un’s situation before of having a child.

Expecting more details to Si-ho’s present timeline nature as well as who Do-yun is from Hwal’s past will be answered. His lengthened reunion with Ho-yeol, who abhors him because of his family, hopefully, would find himself on his side. After all, it was his promise-me-before-I-die wish that made Hwal a model bulgasal.
