Hong-jo and Shin-yu’s feelings are officially mutual in the 5th week of Destined With You.
Still, they have to deal with Na-yeon’s demand and a curse from the gardener who secretly wishes harm to befall them.

Destined With You Episodes 9 and 10 Highlights
In a difficult situation, Jae-kyung finds Hong-jo. Unknown to her, Shin-yu was also hospitalized. It appears that Na-yeon also coordinates with the garden owner with a still unclear plan that involves Shin-yu and Hong-jo.
Curious about why Shin-yu does not reply to her messages, Hong-jo finally got the response and met at the hospital. He also relays the plan for him to go somewhere to rest but gives her a choice to stop it and he will obey as she wishes.
“Didn’t you call to stop me from going?”
On the night of the fireworks festival, Shin-yu who was on the way to Jeju Island with his family changed his mind and went to the festival. Questioning his presence, Hong-jo listens to how he thought her call meant she wanted him not to go on that trip.
After informing him that she cast a spell to contradict the spell curse cast on Shin-yu thinking it was what made him sick, he pulls her into his arms and tells her he does not care about spells anymore.
In a flashback of their past lives, it was revealed how Hong-jo’s past counterpart comforted young Shin-yu who lost his mother to a fatal illness. They became close and later developed into a romantic relationship.
“It does not matter whether the spells work or not. I love you.”
Back at the present time, Shin-yu confesses his love for Hong-jo who was caught off guard by the sudden love declaration. She points out his situation with Na-yeon and he acknowledges his reality. He vows to come to her clean so she has to be like that as well.
Later, Shin-yu visits his grandmother and he discusses how he thinks his connection with Hong-jo sprang from the past. Interestingly, he remembers his past but Hong-jo does not.
True to his promise, Shin-yu breaks up with Na-yeon who still refuses it strongly. The next day, she carpooled with Jae-kyung and was summoned straight to Shin-yu’s office.
Going back to their agreement to “stay pure” – both insist they are doing as they initially promised. At night, the group date Hong-jo and Jae-kyung were supposed to join got canceled.
They end up on a picnic date as Jae-kyung finally conveys his feelings to Hong-jo. Na-yeon who requested Shin-yu to keep their breakup a secret, pulls her Mayor’s daughter’s card and asks her father to have Hong-jo be transferred.
Confronting Shin-yu about the mess he created, the latter drags Hong-jo somewhere and relays their situation. Unable to fight the growing feelings, she returns his kisses. However, Shin-yu pulls back when he starts having visions of “red hand” while Hong-jo lovingly puts her hand on his face.
Destined With You Episodes 9 and 10 Musings
Just as romance is generously sprinkled in this week’s episodes of Destined With You, troubles are inevitably mounting for the lead pair.
The series continues its messy storytelling but at least it gives a clear room to understand the inseverable destinies that bind Hong-jo and Shin-yu.
We know that Na-yeon’s nature leans toward her selfishness and the trouble she helped the gardener prepare, hopefully, backfires.
There are obvious opportunities to improve the narrative of this series. But some of its wobbly movements tend to be forgivable because of the story’s unexplained charm.
Are viewers entranced? There’s a great possibility. Nevertheless, what matters is how the closure of this drama would be executed.
