If You Say Your Wish

If You Wish Upon Me Episodes 3 and 4 Highlights

Instead of going back to prison, Yoon Gyeo-rye ends up doing volunteer hours at Woori Hospice. His dog “sonny” seems to like the vibe in the hospital where dying patients stay.

His last encounter with a grandfather with whom he confessed his innermost fear in a way thawed some of the pain he’s carrying within.

“Putting up with the pain isn’t always good. No matter how many times we teach patients about pain, they think enduring it is the best. They try to bear it until the end.”

Gyeo-rye is settling into the vision of Team Genie. But like always for the first-time volunteers who experienced granting a dying patient’s request and sending him off after, Grandfather Pyeon’s death took an emotional toll on Gyeo-rye.

Calling his trusted friend Jin-gu who is also Sonny’s vet, he drunkenly conveyed that he appreciated him. He also blabs about how he considers him as his friend as he is the only person who didn’t laugh at him when they first met.

Slowly but surely, Gyeo-rye is adapting well to his role at the hospice and with Team Genie. When Yeon-joo took the fury of a patient named Se-hee (Park Jin Ju) asking for painkillers; she took it lightly understanding Se-hee’s pain.

Later, she realized her uncalled-for rude action toward Yeon-joo and apologized for it. Understanding where she’s coming from and knowing Gyeo-rye might hear their conversation; Yeon-joo conveyed the importance of not bottling emotions and expressing them freely.

Se-hee becomes the recipient of Team Genie’s new project. Despite still having many days left, Captain Kang moves to gift Se-hee’s ultimate wish. That is to perform as a musical actress with top musical celebrity Pyo Gyu-tae (Min Wook Hyuk).

“I’m a member of Team Genie. I grant patients’ wishes.”

Despite Captain Kang’s effort to plead for Se-hee’s dying wish; Pyo Gyu-tae refuses to cooperate. Fortunately for them, the celebrity got embroiled in an assault case. Thus, his generous deed of granting a dying patient’s wish would sit well with his scandal.

Meanwhile, Ha Jun-kyung (Won Ji An), Gyeo-rye’s friend who was also imprisoned because of the arson case is being pestered by the thug Seok-jun. But she won’t budge and strongly tells the thug to back off and not pester Gyeo-rye anymore.

Knowing Gyeo-rye is not as bad as he is posing to be, Yeon-joo’s interaction with him slowly improves even when they often bicker. She also shares with him that her obsession to be strong and healthy is traced to how her weak body was not able to carry her mother well at that time when she had to bring her to the hospital.

With the musical created by Se-hee coming up, her body unfortunately is not going to the right flow. Dr. Yang forbids her to proceed even if she pleaded that it’s her one last life wish.

When Yeon-joo appeals to Dr. Yang, he mindlessly vented out his frustrations to her. Gyeo-rye defends Yeon-joo which the latter did not like faintly belittling his existence at the hospice.

Responding to Dr.Yang’s who-he-is taunt, Gyeo-rye declares that he is a team genie member who grants patients’ wishes.

If You Wish Upon Me

If You Wish Upon Me Episodes 3 and 4 Musings

If You Wish Upon Me introduced the contradicting outlooks of people who want to celebrate life no matter how deplorable the situations are. Team Genie advocates a noble mission to provide a dying person’s greatest yearning. While the newest member is more scared of living his very own life.

We show how the people at Woori hospice respectfully give time for Gyeo-rye to recognize their sincere actions towards him. In return, Gyeo-rye though unaware that he’s subconsciously becoming one with the team is absorbing the warmth he keeps receiving from them.

His firm declaration of protecting Yeon-joo affirms his possible acceptance to create affinity with people.

Establishing dying wishes as one of the engrossing elements of this series; the narrative strongly emphasizes Gyeo-rye’s journey to acknowledge the pain and forgive himself in the process. We can sense how his life has been lonely and tragic, thus, it is hard for him to trust humanity.

Now that Jun-kyung is out, he might be put into a compromising situation again. Inevitably, Seok-jun might find where he is hiding.

Will Se-hee’s final wish of performing in a musical with her favorite star come true? What’s the secret behind Room 403? Find out in the next episode of the series.

Ponder on the meaningful lessons from Team Genie in If You Wish Upon Me every Wednesday and Thursday. International fans can watch it on Viu.
