Tak Dong-kyung takes us on a tour of completing her bucket list with Myul-mang in the 5th week of Doom At Your Service.
They serve us some sweet and cute moments, but it all faded away when the viewers want to join their embrace, because who knows a “group hug” can salvage our heroine’s harrowing looming fate.

Doom At Your Service Episodes 9 & 10 Key Moments
“You always do things however you like.”
Dong-kyung’s aunt Soo-ja returns to Korea after learning of her niece’s condition. Having a quasi-boyfriend with supernatural power came in handy for Dong-kyung as she asked Myul-mang to pretend to be her doctor to calm her aunt who’s desperate for her to get the surgery. Soo-ja also visits her sister, she pleads to not take away her daughter yet even if she misses her as well.
Finally sitting in front of each other, Hyun-kyu confessed his unannounced visit to Ji-na’s place is because he misses her. She tells him that he should have been braver enough back then because it’s already too late and she has no intention of going back to where they used to be.
“I thought I had the most miserable life. But I’m nothing compared to her.”
After buying Myul-mang a new phone, Dong-kyung tags along to his work and they visit a school about to be closed down. The teacher who was supposed to give a graduating ceremony to the sole student died, so Myul-mang suit up to fulfill the student and his grandma’s earnest wish.
Sharing the life of the female deity who tends to the garden of life, Dong-kyung realized how she’s still lucky. Apparently, the female deity lives and dies in a cycle. For her every reborn she suffers a sickness that will lead to her inevitable death.
“Loving someone forever is nearly impossible. But losing someone forever is possible. But we always live for things that don’t last forever – for example DREAM.”
Calling her boyfriend to do something with her, Dong-kyung brings Myul-mang to the mall and declared she’s going to shop like there’s no tomorrow. Buying things for her family and friends, she also forced him to take studio photos with her that she happily set as wallpaper on their phones.
Myul-mang also makes her happy by giving a literal “dream date” for her with a lavish feast. He also brought her closest people who have flaunted the gifts she just bought. When she woke up from the dream, Dong-kyung felt a bit disappointed, but her mood lightens up when she saw her aunt, Ji-na and Sung-kyung again in a “real breakfast”.
“I don’t care who that guy is. We met first. I liked you first. And I still like you.”
Hyun-kyu finally realized the woman Joo-ik tried to hide and the feeling was not at all nice. Trying to stake his claim, he goes to where Ji-na and demands her to date him.
She answers back by throwing her clothes at him. When she meets Dong-kyung the next day, she admits to how she crumbled like her old self when she saw him smile.
Their bonding gets interrupted when Ji-na was summoned by CEO Park who made a no-brainer claim of her plagiarizing his work. Barely holding herself not to cause a ruckus, she reached her tipping point when the rude CEO commented on how her works don’t go well because of her attitude when being hit on by a guy.
Joo-ik mediates and just advised Ji-na to pay for the thrown laptop because it belongs to him.
“Disappearing from the world didn’t scare me. But not being able to see you scared me. Like a fool I just realized that I don’t have much time left.”
Finding Dong-kyung to recharge her energy, she finally shows a desperate hope for a miracle and asks the all-important question about her problem.
“What if I wanted to live? Can you grant me that wish?”
Myul-mang responds his power can’t go beyond that wish since he is meant to destroy. Sharing her sentiments on knowing how the people around her might be smiling, but are really utterly devastated, she also asks what he thinks about when he looks at her face.
Knowing the answer to her question, she walks back home to contemplate. But soon, he came rushing to where she is. He looks straight into her eyes and answers her question with a love confession.Tears brim from Dong-kyung eyes hearing the very same words she feels for Myul-mang. She responds to it by sealing their relationship formally.
The next day, Myul-mang’s new girlfriend visits him and amuses herself by teasing him. It turns out that living with mortals has made him learn a few casanova tricks.

“Would you like to come in for some ramyeon?”
The love birds are in full love swing now that they mutually admitted to their feelings. While on a date, Myul-mang smoothly charms his woman who does not make an effort to hide the heart flutters visible on her bright face.
But the ramyun date turned samgyupsal feast as the two find Dong-kyung’s family set up an outdoor barbecue dinner. Unfortunately, Dong-kyung witnessed her aunt silently weeping when she saw the portrait she took in preparation of her looming death.
Trying to encourage Dong-kyung to share her thoughts, Myulmang coaxes her to say her emotional burdens but she chose to evade it.
“You always look like you were saying goodbye. Even now, while looking at me.”
Joining his girl to her activities, Myul-mang got a taste of jealousy by witnessing Dong-kyung’s close guy friends at work being chummy with her. He drives her to complete the tasks on her bucket list until finally reaching the last thing she has to do – to disconnect with her loved ones.
She leaves the house while her aunt and Sun-kyung sleeps, but finds Myul-mang who already sensed her plan to leave. He confessed how she has that “goodbye” look on her face. Mustering her emotional strength, she confessed that she has fallen in love with him but bravely breaks up with him as well.
In Jeju island, Dong-kyung tries to find solace, but the memories she shared with her loved ones keep crawling in her heart and mind.
Just as she marked the last thing on her bucket list, Myul-mang appears to demand her honesty. Her emotions burst as she declares what she really wants.
“I want to live. I really, really want to live. I want to live with you, my aunt, Sun-kyung and Ji-na. I want to live with all the people I love. I really do. I really really want to live.”
Doom At Your Service Episodes 9 & 10 Musings
I was not prepared to that emotional last scene. Park Bo Young was just wow! Honestly, Doom At Your Service does not have consistently engrossing episodes. Probably because its tone predominantly leans to a heartbreaking thought. But it has scored stunningly captured scenes and lines to make up for when the story feels dozing.
Finally, we got the definite answer to the curious question we had since day 1. We had been getting faint ideas but Myul-mang clarified it once and for all. His power can only destroy. Thus, he cannot make her live.
On that premise, the two should have been extra nice to the creator deity since she can probably help Dong-kyung. Doom At Your Service has been withholding details to a point that it gets frustrating sometimes. Just like the female deity’s hint that there could be a way out of her predicament and “super genuine love” might be the answer.
Episode 10 has surely doted us with saccharine scenes, and asking for more is deemed fair. Without viewers realizing it, the series has made them emotionally invested to the pictured unfortunate love tale. It was a slow-burn, but it has settled deeply to a point that Dong-kyung’s survival can qualify to become our real-life problems.
For people who have loved ones who are terminally ill, spending the numbered days together is extra painful. That was captured in the scene when Dong-kyung’s aunt stumbled on her portrait. Myul-mang who had deduced what happened inside the house through his mind-reading is seemingly pained to be in a state when he can’t do anything for the woman he loves.
The two sworn brothers who love Na Ji-na
Joo-ik and Hyun-kyu still struggle to confront each other straightforwardly about being both drawn to the same woman. With not many episodes remaining, let’s hope they get to deal with it accordingly.
Being curious to who Ji-na’s heart beats for would hurt all of them anyway. So, it’s really getting tedious to witness their indecisive hearts.
Six more episodes and we’re going to send off Myul-mang and Dong-kyung. I wish I can say I would understand a realistic ending, but I really want a sugar-coated love that can move impossibility closure.
