Si-woo and Ha-kyung are living a sweet private life that contradicts their workplace life in the 5th episode of Forecasting Love and Weather.
Adding to that are personal family problems haunting them aside from their ex-lovers. Consistently serving us the arduous and impactful workload of weather forecasters, this episode provided new insights into the weight of what their jobs entail.

Forecasting Love and Weather Episode 5 Key Moments
The aftermath of Yu-jin’s mindless news report leads Ha-kyung and Si-woo to spend the night together for a comprehensive report. Over at Ki-jun and Yu-jin’s place, the latter justifies why she lied to him about her ex-boyfriend.
“Just as cold air suddenly meets a mass of warm air, you and I have met with our differences. We’ve already decided to begin. How many abnormal climate events caused by this decision will we be able to avoid?”
Opting to hide their relationship, Si-woo and Ha-kyung are put in awkward situations with Seok-ho who keeps seeing them together.
When it comes to working, the new lovers are not in sync as Si-woo often challenges Ha-kyung’s weather assessment. While she relies heavily on data and reports, Si-woo can easily pinpoint weather anomalies to work on. Just like how he recognized easily the cause of localized heavy rains.
Unfortunately, Si-woo’s irresponsible father has been reaching out to him for money and even called Yu-jin. That’s why they meet outside the building to discuss it. Ki-jun who follows his wife sees them together.
As Ki-jun is already angered by Team 2 for releasing urgent news to the reporters, he takes the opportunity to settle scores with Si-woo. But the smart forecaster responds nonchalantly to observe in the control room if he can’t stand sudden advisories.
Venting his frustration on Ha-kyung, Ki-jun’s offbeat hubris thinks his ex-girlfriend has still feelings for him. That’s why she let Si-woo stay to spite him. Furious at his non-sense blab, she kicks Ki-jun and warns him not to disturb her with his stupid ramblings.
“Keep a distance of one meter from me at work. That’s an order.”
Intentionally provoking Ha-kyung in front of their teammates, the two get a quick lone time at the pantry. Si-woo inquires about what she talked about Ki-jun so she returns the question of why Yu-jin called him.
Both genuinely relaying what happened, Ha-kyung also clears she’s not mad at Si-woo, but is frustrated that she missed the cold air that he caught.
At lunchtime, Ha-kyung not only inadvertently witnesses her ex-BF’s pretentious display of affection, but she also overhears people talking behind her back. People perceive she is picking on Si-woo causing the team to work on the 10-year worth of data tasks, she asked them to do.
Busy analyzing data, the team unwittingly missed the rain echo which caused a sudden downpour. Subsequently, a barrage of complaints is thrown at KMA for the inaccurate weather forecast.
“People think weather and climate are the same, but they are actually different. While weather changes from day to day like feelings, climate doesn’t change easily because it’s like an innate personality of a person. When you don’t know someone’s personality, how can you flatter them?”
Huddling the team for the problem, Ha-kyung reprimands Su-jin for giving an excuse of missing the rain echo because of the task she gave. Senior Forecaster Eom claims responsibility which annoyed Ha-kyung, as she felt he was overstepping the boundary of her authority.
SF Eom does not mean it like that, but he’s just emotionally stressed. He is unable to reconcile with his family who can’t get used to his sudden inclusion in the house.
Seok-ho explains to Si-woo why Ha-kyung needed lengthy data which made him realize how their team leader prioritizes a forecast that would help a lot of people. Si-woo also explains what he realized to Su-jin.
Meanwhile, Myung-joo gives a useful pep talk to Ha-kyung who is doubting her ability as the new leader of the team. She honestly tells Ha-kyung how she needs to believe her orders first to polish the evident distrust of her team members.
Later, Ha-kyung finds SF Eom at the site where there were reported casualties because of the heavy rains. Fortunately, the missing workers were rescued which led to them sighing in relief and agreeing to have dinner together.
Too drunk to tell where he stays, Ha-kyung brings SF Eom to a nearby motel where they bump into Si-woo. Both ask why they meet there. Suddenly, another round of heavy rains erupts.
Forecasting Love and Weather Musings
Forecasting Love and Weather gave us a peek into the world of people working at Korea Meteorological Administration. Five episodes after, viewers would now be more understanding of wrong weather predictions as we saw how hard to analyze the weather in reality.
Weather forecasters have demanding jobs that can even cause alienation to their own families like what happened to SF Eom. Inevitably, it can lead to loss of career motivation.
I love the focus on Team 2’s internal problem in this episode as it gives a microcosm of workplace conflicts. That is especially true in a team with diverse ages, experiences and perspectives.
By presenting the experienced workers’ viewpoint in resolving problems, the impulsiveness of young workers is also highlighted.
Shedding light on leadership lessons, it underlines how two-way trust between a leader and his members needs to always happen. Bringing up personal problems at work and speaking up opinions without proper research, the series felt like a motivational workplace book in this episode.
On the romantic side of the series, I bet one ant signatory is just needed for Seok-ho to really catch the hidden workplace lovers in the act. The fact that Ha-kyung lives in the same building is already a guarantee that it might happen soon.
