Cheer Up Episode 12 Highlights

“Being on the cheering squad is hard, but it’s fun. I like my friends as well. This is the first time I wanted to do something. So I just want to give it a shot.”

Previously on Cheer Up, Hae-yi rejects Sun-ho for the last time and made it clear that she has feelings for Jung-woo. Despite being rejected many times by Hae-yi before, Sun-ho felt a great deal of pain.

He starts to ignore Hae-yi again and drinks with Yong-il to try to relieve the pain. Instead of going home, the drunk Sun-ho went straight to Hae-yi’s house which made Jae-yi and Choon-yang know about their situation.

They allowed Sun-ho to stay and Hae-yi’s mom called Jin-hee, Sun-ho’s mom, and informed her about her son’s state. Jin-hee then arrived outraged with Sun-ho’s belongings since her son continues to rebel.

As soon as Hae-yi and Sun-ho talked about their summer training, Sun-ho’s mother could do nothing to stop him. Furthermore, Sun-ho expressed how happy he is to be part of Theia, and this somehow convinced Jin-hee to allow her son.

“You didn’t know I was feeling down today, did you? You were too busy hanging out with Captain to notice. I was the only one who cared. I’m tired of doing as you please all the time.”

Marking their first summer training, Theia’s newbies undergo intense training facilitated by their seniors and an alumni member, Jin-il. Regardless of the extreme drills they did, they got the chance to relax at the resort.

At the same time, Sun-ja was excited to celebrate her birthday, and she even tried giving hints to Hae-yi. However, Hae-yi “cannot” remember what makes the day special, and she secretly spends the day with Jung-woo.

On the other hand, Sun-ja was surprised that Min-jae remembers her birthday, and he even prepared a small gift for her. With that, Sun-ja felt glum again as she remembers that Hae-yi forgot her birthday and was busy spending time with Jung-woo.

All of a sudden, Hae-yi showed up in front of her and asked Sun-ja to accompany her on the bus. While grabbing her hands, Sun-ja fell and hurt herself.

Sun-ja’s anger then explodes, expressing her disappointment in her best friend. Moreover, the bus door opened, revealing other Theia members holding a cake and balloons.

“I’m just going to follow my heart without changing anything. If it’s comfortable to treat me like a friend, do that. But you’re not a friend to me. Follow your heart because I will do the same.

Brushing off the tension, Theia’s summer training continues with an activity held at an abandoned hospital. The rest of the members need to find and catch Captain Jung-woo, Vice Captain Cho-hee, and Planning Captain Jin-il and steal their stickers.

As the game started, Sun-ho approached Hae-yi and assures her that her quarrel with Sun-ja will soon be mended. On the other hand, Hae-yi opens up about her relationship with Jung-woo, which Sun-ho immediately cuts her off.

Additionally, he reminds Hae-yi to forget their kiss at Busan and forget what happened at the cafe so they can be comfortable with each other. Sun-ho also bluntly expresses his feelings that he will continue to follow his heart.

Continuing their activity, Hae-yi heard a voice calling her, which led her to a secluded room. As she went inside, the door behind her closed, locking her, and an outlet started a fire that Jin-il had presumably planned ahead.

Cheer Up Episode 12 Musings

Hae-yi’s rejection of Sun-ho’s confession made a turning point for Sun-ho’s maturity and his decision-making. Despite the multiple rejections, Sun-ho showed that Hae-yi is not his sole reason for staying at Theia.

As an only child, Sun-ho grew up getting anything he wants but the rejections made him realize that he cannot control other people. With his confession about following his heart, let’s see what would his next moves would be.

On the other hand, everyone can resonate with Sun-ja about Hae-yi losing time for her since entering a relationship. Nevertheless, misunderstandings, as they encountered in the episode, cannot be avoided in a friendship.

Moreover, Sun-ja’s unspoken grudges against Hae-yi might have left an ache in her heart that made her realize that she made Sun-ja feel uncomfortable. Hopefully, their friendship will get stronger and deeper in the next episodes.

Lastly, Jin-il’s plans shift from threats to motives to kill after knowing about Jung-woo and Hae-yi’s relationship. We still have yet to discover his true motives and reasons for hating Yoo-min and Hae-yi.
