Forecasting Love and Weather Episode 7 & 8 Key Moments
The hanging questions from last week’s episode give unexpected outcomes among two relationship pairings with tangled pasts.
Ha-kyung reasons how she ends up wasting 10 years in her previous relationship to know that they were not meant to be. That’s why she wants to live with Si-woo together.
Politely declining Ha-kyung’s offer to live together so she can go for a trial period and get to know him better, he reasons that making efforts is how a relationship works. He also reveals his stand is true since he has prior experience of living together with Yu-jin.
Meanwhile, Yu-jin is bent on foregoing marriage registration. Bluntly pointing out her inhibitions and aspirations to a marriage she wants to have, Ki-jun relents.
“I wanted us to be close. I may have wanted to make up for my failed past relationship by being close to each other as soon as possible. But he says the closer we are, the more disappointed we’ll be. We want to be close but we are afraid of getting hurt.”
The next day, Si-woo teases Ha-kyung when he realized she waited for his call the other night. As he was busy house hunting, he barely had time to call her.
Dragging Si-woo for dinner, Ha-kyung confesses the awkwardness she feels after their “living together” chat. Si-woo assures her that nothing’s wrong and to keep her mind at ease, he answers what’s bugging her.
Learning he was looking for a new place, she asks why he’s rejecting her offer. Si-woo responds that he wants to separate his relationship and personal time. His honest reply of not feeling prideful because he has nothing to be ashamed of made Ha-kyung smile.
Assigned by their editor to have her husband work on a feature for the magazine, Yu-jin can’t bring it up to Ki-jun after their chat on marriage registration. Unknown to her, Ki-jun was already advised of it.
After a pep talk from Myung-joo, Ki-jun plans to appear as reliable as he can to ease his wife’s apprehension. He agrees with the collaboration and asks Ha-kyung to help him with it. Reminding him that she won’t be extending help anymore, Ha-kyung rejects Ki-jun’s request.
Let’s say the three brains of Forecasting Team 2 are staying together for the summer disaster prevention period.”
Discovering SF Eom and Si-woo are staying in the office sleeping room, Ha-kyung forced them to live together in her apartment. That same night, Ki-jun who learned about Yu-jin’s past of living together with another man pushed him to wallow in alcohol for comfort.
He finds himself going to Ha-kyung’s place just as Seok-ho from the same building learns that Ha-kyung is the owner of the side dishes. Coming back from buying some drinks, Si-woo also enters the situation.
Ha-kyung’s urgent damage control had him bring Ki-jun to a nearby park as he listens to his drunk nonsense. She was able to assess that Ki-jun’s stumbling of Yu-jin’s secret made him quite a mess.
Feeling unsettled, Si-woo moves to check his girlfriend who is tending to her ex-boyfriend. He is left with no choice but to call his ex-girlfriend to get their address and bring her drunk husband there. At their place, Yu-jin listens to Ki-jun’s sleeptalk apologizing to Ha-kyung.
Si-woo finds Ha-kyung still sitting on the park’s bench and they end up succumbing to a quiet fight for failing to express their emotions. He also brings up feeling unhappy to know how she had helped Ki-jun with his columns.
“Are there still things that haven’t been sorted out yet with him? What are they? How long will it last? Besides the columns, the apologies and the insurance, what else is left between you two?”
Still not aware that Ki-jun already knows her secret, she pesters him the next day about the situation he had the other night. But Ki-jun refuses to talk to her and excuses himself to go to work.
When her editor notified Ki-jun’s change of mind about the collaboration, she asks Si-woo about it. She finally gets the picture of her husband’s sudden coldness.
Meanwhile, the hot and humid weather makes the KMA people struggle with the scheduled meeting as they get direct impact because of air conditioning problems.
En route to the office, Ha-kyung met a car accident and was left with no choice but to speak with Ki-jun who changed the car insurance of the vehicle. At the meeting, the forecasters and the chief were advised of Ha-kyung’s situation.
Si-woo, who kept checking Ha-kyung out of worry, can’t focus on the meeting. Seeing her coming with Ki-jun raised his anger index and he said everything he wants to tell Ha-kyung in one go.
Understanding his emotions, Ha-kyung humbly apologized for overlooking his feelings.
“Being embarrassed in front of you is temporary. But I’d regret it forever if you misunderstood me. I’ll make sure this doesn’t happen again. Of course, bits of my past with Ki-jun might suddenly appear out of nowhere. But I promise I’ll be honest with you. I won’t hide anything. I promise you that.”
Just as Si-woo’s storm subsides, another storm erupts when Ki-jun initiates a fight with Si-woo out of his frustration with Yu-jin. Si-woo’s frank remark of how ungentlemanly he is for feeling bothered about the past of a woman further ignites an unexpected brawl.
Both inevitably get reprimanded by the chief. Signaling Si-woo to come with her, they end up at the bar they frequent as she tends to the wound on his face.
Promising she understands what he’s been unhappy about, the two exchange sweet kisses. Unknown to them, Ki-jun followed them and confirmed with his eyes that they are a couple.
When he gets home, he goes for another bout of angry confrontation with Yu-jin. Expressing his hate at the thought of Yu-jin’s past with Si-woo, he also tells her that Ha-kyung is dating him.
Forecasting Love and Weather Episode 7 & 8 Musings
Sensibly using weather knowledge to the surges of emotions in the latest episodes of Forecasting Love and Weather, writer Sun Young deserves praise for balancing the workplace and romance elements of the series.
In episode 6, the distance that can hurt two people was presented in the reality of how the ozone layer is a protective shield from afar, but when it gets closer, it could be harmful.
It translates to the personal space that can be shared between lovers. In the case of Si-woo and Ha-kyung, they have opposing convictions on how they can bridge their differences while making their discreet relationship work.
Another interesting relationship that was insightfully discussed in this episode is Senior Forecaster’s Eom’s plight of not knowing how to make the distance from his family shorter. He has lived apart from them, and his deplorable situation seems futile to fight for.
Factors To Forget In Starting New Relationships
Since day 1, we love how Si-woo is pure but takes a pragmatic approach to problems presented to him. His being outspoken has also finally influenced Ha-kyung. The scene when Ha-kyung addressed the knots that are tying Si-woo’s heart is an insightful moment.
It makes us realize that there’s nothing wrong with clearing misunderstandings. Oftentimes, couples tend to think that a fight has been settled, when it’s not, It’s important for a mutual acknowledgment. Just like how Ha-kyung explained her side after weighing up Si-woo’s thoughts.
Let’s hope Ha-kyung’s foresight moves faster to a realization that keeping their relationship secret needs to stop soon. Aside from the fact that we only have eight episodes left, there’s not much room for external conflicts that can fit in the story.
Most likely, the downbeat mood of the series will spring from the characters’ internal strife.
