May this episode of Happiness remind us that encountering annoying neighbors is a truth universally acknowledged.
Amidst the threats outside the building, what Yi-hyun and Sae-bom fear about the gym guy, unfortunately, came true. Adding to that, the stubborn and holier-than-thou tenants create more trouble than help to the situation.
It’s a wake-up call to know your neighbors well. You might not know how exasperating they can get in case we face a survival reality like this in the future.

Happiness Episode 6 Key Moments
“It’s a failed pneumonia cure. But I believe it will help treat adult ADHD.”
What seemed to be a regular pill for ADHD patients turned into a nightmare for NEXT. In a flashback, it was revealed how the infancy stage of the pill manifested a red flag.
However, Han Tae-seok ordered to silence a man with the adverse effect of biting another person after taking it. Unfortunately for him, his wife suffered the same fate when the Chairman of the pharmaceutical company was also infected and bit his pregnant wife.
Back at present time, he talks to Ji-soo who reported nothing’s going positive to the cure experiment. At the Le Ciel apartment complex, the surviving uninfected residents hold a meeting about the situation outside. Yi-hyun and Sae-bom strategize on not giving the option for the infected to enter the building.
Covering the bases, the two go to the rooftop and find the calm Andrew getting air from there. They follow suit and chat about the ongoing predicament of the infected people. How they may be hiding and scared of turning into monster-like individuals. Sae-bom chides him on wiping blood on Ju-hyung since he didn’t do it right by not letting him taste it.
From her unreasonable outburst, the building representative ajumma, regains her drive through her husband’s encouragement. His thoughts of the profits they can gain after the outbreak made her feel motivated. Thus, she works right away to earn the trust of the tenants. Starting with Yi-hyun and Sae-bom, she visits them to apologize.
“The world would be a better place without you in it.”
Meanwhile, Yi-hyun checks on the could-be infected gym guy and reminds him how people could become suspicious of him. That’s exactly where Ju-hyung’s thoughts went to upon learning from his mistress that his dead wife took some pills she got from the gym.
Knowing best how to stir trouble, he visits the community center and discovers the handcuffed gym staff. Confirming if he sold pills to his dead wife so he can also buy, the gym trainer denies having it.
Unknown to them, their conversation is being listened to by Yi-hyun. He also confirms the gym trainer to have been infected. Seeing Ju-hyung about to be bitten, he considered letting the villain suffer. But his kind heart opted to help him and warns him to stay at his place and just breathe.
The moment he let a few seconds to calm the raging patient, Ju-hyung intended to push Yi-hyun to the infected. It left him no choice but to physically return the favor. Previously, the building representative was quick to dismiss an infected tenant from another building.
That same ajussi tenant lures the lawyer tenant with a pitch that he needed legal advice. Thankfully, his rational wife quickly seeks help from Sae-bom when she realized what her husband did. Learning about the gym trainer being kept as a patient inside the building, the lawyer couple meets the building representative.
Yi-hyun goes on with his own analysis of the disease like its usual time range and if the patient remembers his actions through the gym trainer. Advising him to restrain his actions to keep his humanity, he confessed to Yi-hyun that Ju-hyung knows where the pills are.
“When something happens, but it ends before I gave my all, it leaves me a lot of regrets.”
At the rooftop, the married friends chat about the decision to vote whether the gym trainer will stay or not. They also settle to play the “good cop and “bad cop” roles.
Making rounds to convince residents in throwing out the gym trainer, Lawyer Kook visits wanna-be video creator Dong-hyun’s place. Not knowing that Dong-hyun’s mother is infected, they missed her agitated look seeing the video of the monster-like patient.
He also stops by the Na siblings’ unit and even strikes a casual flirtation with Ju-hyung’s mistress. Sae-bom goes to the penthouse guy to tell about the voting which could decide a life-or-death situation.
Over beer cans, she chats with her husband about how she does not want to be put in a situation to regret something because of being indecisive. At that same moment, Ju-hyung retrieves the remaining NEXT pills he learned from the gym trainer.
“I vote that we don’t kick him out.”
The next day, the meeting proceeds with Lawyer Kook flashing the agenda with his law knowledge. Pitching the bottom line of evicting the gym trainer, Sae-bom counters it with how people do not choose to be inflicted by a disease. She gives the coronavirus as a perfect example of her argument and taps on how they will all feel if it happens to them or their family.
Tied at nine votes, the meeting is at a standstill. Just then, the penthouse guy arrives and votes in favor of not evicting the patient. They also decide on taking turns monitoring him. Outside Le Ciel apartment complex, strict quarantine protocols are implemented.
Han Tae-seok visits Chairman and discusses the latter’s ticking time. Receiving an order to let the patients die by cutting the power supply, the infected chairman reasoned letting go of the blood-thirsty patients. He also asserts that the rule does not apply to him.
With his phone lost, Dong-hyun has been borrowing his mom’s phone and sees the video of her checking her back wound. But Dong-hyun got sidetracked when the grocery store cashier mentions seeing his phone outside. Bribing her with money to get it, they proceed with their plans to go outside.
Finding the phone, she also comes face to face with the infected ajussi who has been craving to enter the building. Briefing Na siblings on how to manage the patient, Yi-hyun rushes to the 15th floor upon learning that the penthouse guy also bought the pills.
Sae-bom was already invited to his place when he mentioned his collection of survival guns and ammunition. Warning the penthouse guy of not hurting Sae-bom, they are both not aware that the infected people outside have entered the building and even bit Na writer’s brother.
Happiness Episode 6 Musings
To be honest, I feel so bad for Yi-hyun and Sae-bom to have been trapped with their neighbors in Happiness. This series would really occupy a slot to viewers’ worries each week because of how nicely sketched the characters are. Thankfully we only have six more episodes left.
We have to give it to the villains of this series for making us annoyed in their own special ways. With an ulterior motive to gain profits, the building representative ajumma and her husband chose to find the silver lining in their situation when they should worry about being cooperative and surviving first.
The same goes with the pompous lawyer who thinks high of himself when he can even risk their safety. His duplicity is on a different level when he hoped to throw out the gym trainer patient.
Inviting the infected people in because of Dong-hyun’s and grocery cashier’s stupid decisions, I can only pray that they can withstand the attack of blood-thirsty infected people.
Officially entering the survival mode, Happiness really knows how to reel us in the story while working on the character developments. It has also been throwing profound lessons every now and then.
Next episode’s preview looks like another heart-weakening episode as the cohort quarantine winds down to its conclusion. Can they survive before then and how? That’s what we should look forward to.
So far, we viewers have little information about Lytta virus, like the characters in the story. But the variables like Sae-bom escaping the virus and Dong-hyun’s mom who has not yet shown the monsterish symptoms, reveal that some people can acquire and escalate their symptoms instantaneously. On a positive note, some might have developed antibodies or may not succumb to the symptoms easily.
This episode of Happiness literally made us want to round up all the bothersome residents and throw them out of the building. *chuckles It’s hard not to be emotionally invested in the safety of the protagonists of the series. Eventually, the sliver of hope that Sae-bom can help in creating the cure would be realized.
In case you have not caught up yet, don’t miss the thrill and excitement in Happiness!
