IDOL: The Coup Episode 8 Key Moments
“A chance to right a past wrong will also never come again. It is a chance we can’t let us pass by.”
Cotton Candy informs CEO Cha of their plans to cancel the collaboration as Jenna pledges to be a backup dancer for KillA along with Elle. The CEO disagrees with their decision, telling them that they will regret it. However, Jenna remains firm with her choice and tells the CEO that such a chance to make up for the past is only once too.
Jenna performs as a backup dancer together with Elle for KillA’s event. Cotton Candy members, as well as CEO Cha, watch their performance. After the event, Jenna wishes Elle the best on the path she will take, and rushes to the charity event.
CEO Cha offers to give them a ride, and they perform for their collaboration with Mars. Although mean comments continue to exist, their performance has also been met with positive reviews
“But our family is warmhearted by nature. Don’t wonder why you keep going soft. It’s in your DNA.”
CEO Cha visits his aunt again at the clinic to eat lunch together. Although his aunt may appear to reject him, she still eats together with him, and talks about the recent performance of Cotton Candy and Mars. She reveals how she is part of the fandom of Mars called Calla, but also intends on becoming a fan of Cotton Candy after seeing their performance.
CEO Cha asks why his aunt likes Jenna, but she returns the question to the CEO. He replies telling his aunt that he likes Jenna for the same reason she does. He then delivers the gift from his aunt to the dorm of Cotton Candy, which excites the members.
“Making it on our own was the rule of this game. I promise fair play.”
Jenna talks with CEO Cha on their dorm’s rooftop, and he tells Jenna how he finally understood what she meant through watching her performance with Elle. He also adds that performance was better than her duet with Ji-han. He asks Jenna whether they need the agency’s help, but Jenna prefers to stick to their conditions of doing it on their own.
Meanwhile, Bbiyong meets with Reporter Mo, and asks him to write an article that would then turn out to be unfavorable to Cotton Candy.
“A broken branch can help you cross the river.”
Cotton Candy and Starpeace entertainment became under fire after articles about Mars being used were released. Fans of Mars protest outside their company’s building, and articles about the issue are continuously published.
To handle the situation, CEO Cha calls So-yeon of KillA. Troy, Elle, and Jenna. Troy takes the blame as he is the one who started it, and Jenna disagrees with that plan. CEO Cha asks Jenna to trust his instincts as he believes that they can change the tides.
True to what he has promised, the issue becomes resolved, and the spotlight suddenly turns to the current state of the idol industry. Reporter Mo later meets with CEO Cha to congratulate him on the turn of events given that he requested the article that absolved the situation.
“This might sound a bit cringy, but I think I’m in love with this song.”
Ji-han bumps into Jenna as he meets with the CEO in his office. On Jenna’s way out of the office, Ji-han suggests that they listen to each other’s songs. Jenna says she will not share her group’s song yet while Ji-han brings her to listen to his unit’s song. Listening to the song, Jenna drops the headset and tells Ji-han that she owns the song.
IDOL: The Coup Episode 8 Musings
A lot of performances and heartwarming scenes are shared in this episode. Jenna’s decision just proved how her sincerity can move someone detached like CEO Cha. It was pleasant to see how they resolved their issue with Troy and Elle.
Moreover, the collaboration of Mars and Cotton Candy was successful given that CEO Cha has offered them a ride. Although he may have acted all cold, he has finally proved that he still looks out for the group.
Meeting with his aunt, CEO Cha’s true nature may have been shown. He may appear to be strict, but he is also someone who would give a chance for Cotton Candy. It may have also been confirmed that he likes Jenna, and hopefully, his concern for the group is not fully just motivated by his fondness for Jenna.
Given the articles suddenly pointed the criticism towards the idol industry, Cotton Candy finally gained the attention and support of the people. Reporter Mo’s word with Bbiyong may have been hinting that his article that changed the tides is just the beginning. It can be speculated that he will be writing articles that could defame the group when they reach the top.
In the ending scene, we see Jenna shocked with the song Ji-han is proud of. We shall look forward to how that happened, and probe whether Ji-han is truly liable or whether there is another person involved.
