IDOL: The Coup Episode 9 Key Moments

“There is nothing more meaningful than stopping a catastrophe.”

Upon hearing Jenna’s claims, Ji-han is in disbelief that the song he cherishes is plagiarized. They meet at CEO Cha’s office, and none of them are willing to back down. Bbiyong storms in the office of the CEO angrily, and tells that the timeline does not match up with what Jenna is claiming.

On Jenna and Troy’s side, they argue that the song was made a long time ago, and they sent it to CEO Ma. However, weighing the progress of Mars’ unit, CEO Cha suggests that the unit cannot change its timeline, and Cotton Candy should adjust.

Meanwhile, in Cotton Candy’s dorm, the girls are excited and hopeful as their songs are going up in the rankings.

“The song isn’t important. Hopes and dreams are important.”

Troy begs Elle not to proceed in entering the bar to do favors for the investor she is meeting. He informs her that she can still change her mind to record since he left her parts in Cotton Candy’s song blank. The song has been also sent to Elle, to which she contemplates.

Hyun-ji and Chae-ah jump in joy after hearing they have a commercial deal, and acknowledge CEO Cha’s acts of kindness. Troy visits their dorm, and the other members are informed of the plagiarism issue.

They assess the situation, and their chances of winning the plagiarism fight, but Jenna is convinced to back down. Troy respects Jenna’s decision, but he tells everyone in the room how he’s sure that Bbiyong plagiarized as Jenna’s signature in making songs is evident in both songs.

“Some things are better not to know.”

Ray talks with Ji-han who is still troubled with the plagiarism issue. He reminisces how Ji-han from before was hesitant in dumping his old sneakers, and even commemorated a funeral for it. Relating it to their present problem, Ray asks Ji-han whether he could give up the song he has so much affection for.

Troy follows Jenna into her room, and talks about fighting until the end even though they have no chances of winning the issue of plagiarism. Meanwhile, the other members are shocked with Elle’s return to the dorm, and they all welcome her with a warm hug.

“A counterfeit can pretend to be real, but I won’t be played like a fiddle. I’m going to let my voice be heard.”

CEO Cha talks about how his aunt and him like Jenna and Cotton Candy as they can make him into a better and decent person. With that, he offers Jenna to renew the contract with Cotton Candy. Jenna firmly rejects the offer, and this frustrates the CEO.

Jenna informs the CEO that she will courageously continue the song, and fight the plagiarism issue since their goal is winning number one and disbanding. Cotton Candy all agreed to release their song at the same time with Mars’ unit, so Jenna pleas for the CEO to play fair also.

Telling Ji-han the same things, Ji-han bursts into frustration as he does not want to give up his unit’s song also. He warns Jenna on how Mars’ fans, Calla, can destroy Cotton Candy, but Jenna along with Cotton Candy, proceed with their plans of recording altogether.

“Don’t sort it out. Tell the truth.”

Elle calls to inform her investor that she will no longer continue with her solo plans. She is now firm with her decision to continue with Cotton Candy.

Calls suddenly surge the girls as an article about the plagiarism controversy is released. Jenna charges in the company angrily, but they claim that it wasn’t them who released the article.

Reporters camp outside Cotton Candy’s dorm, and fans of Mars protest outside the company. Jenna is saved by Seok-choon, the manager whom Du-ho entrusted to them, from the egg thrown to her by a Mars’ fan.

IDOL: The Coup Episode 9 Musings

Bbiyong was really infuriating in this episode as we see him put Cotton Candy to the test. His character is so detestable, for he brags about being number one in Korea, when he still lacks certain skills.

Ji-han is stuck in his dilemma of giving up the song or continuing despite the plagiarism allegations. It’s such a pity since he is just beginning to explore his musical identity, and he gets involved in a sticky situation like this. Seeing how Bbiyong threatened him by the end of the episode, Ji-han’s liability in plagiarism is dissolved despite being a co-producer for his unit’s song.

CEO Cha’s intentions of protecting Cotton Candy are noteworthy, but his method does not really suit the group’s goal. Even with that, it is good to see him support the group in any way he could.

More allies to Cotton Candy resurface in this episode, with Seok-choon saving Jenna from the egg thrown to her. It’s frustrating to see how intrusive the media are, as well as the fans. Fortunately, Cotton Candy now has Troy and Seok-choon, and hopefully, more people will come to support them too.

The plagiarism controversy is becoming a complicated issue as Ji-han may be damaged along the process of proving that Bbiyong truly plagiarized the song. Cotton Candy is now complete with Elle, and viewers shall see how they will fight this battle against plagiarism.

Moreover, we shall also look forward to what Starpeace Entertainment will do concerning this issue, but hopefully, only the liable one will be punished.
