Jirisan Episode 8 Key Moments
*2019 Timeline
The raging wildfire on Jirisan caused the Haedong branch rangers a long night of quelling the rapidly spreading big flames. Yi-gang discovers the skeleton, she perceives to be Lee Se-wook.
Back at the storage house, the children tell Hyun-jo of a hole where they can escape. Once he let the children out of the house, a tree on fire falls down reflecting his exact vision. Fortunately, help arrives saving Hyun-jo from peril. But the children who headed to the mountains are yet to be rescued.
Unfortunately, the wind changes direction amplifying the seething fire. But Do Jae-jin and his team decide to take chance on the narrow chance of subduing the fire as well as looking for the missing children.
“We’re going up. Please take care of the town.”
Learning Yi-gang is not with the main team, Hyun-jo insists going up with an already bad leg. However, Goo-young did ‘t allow him to come up. Tracking Yi-gang through a drone, Hyun-jo eagerly looks for her in the blazing forest. Meanwhile, Yi-gang finds the children hiding inside a small rock shelter.
Team Haedong tries to track Yi-gang’s location to no avail. With her quick reflexes, Yi-gang gathers the children to the nearby emergency cabinet. Chief Do goes back to the location, and the team follows him as well. Using a fireproof jacket Yi-gang shields the children with all her might.
Thanks to Yi-kang’s presence of mind, they survive the roaring flames. At the hospital, the snake poacher’s wife who was indifferent to Team Haedong team thanks Yi-gang for saving her children.
“I think Se-wook had an accomplice.”
Hyun-jo reports finding Lee Se-wook’s remains per her tip, but it was concluded that he fell off the cliff. Sharing how he only saw five of the mountain-related deaths on Jirisan, Hyun-jo wonders why he did not see the other 25 deaths on the mountain after his junior’s death.
He also concludes how the killings are murders disguised as accidental deaths. Thus, it’s possible that Se-wook had an accomplice. Knowing that someone purposely set the storage on fire, Hyun-jo also concludes that someone is after him to cause harm. That he will be continuously targeted since he escaped the storage fire.
Worried about his welfare, Yi-gang offers to back him up, but Hyun-jo reminds her that his situation can’t be backed up by evidence. Feeling positive that at least he can foresee the future, he’s confident that they can catch the culprit. Acquiescing to his request, she made him promise to move with her with their plan to catch the criminal.
Another town hall meeting was held led by Team Haedong branch. Boring everyone with his speech, Chief Do’s juniors decide to lighten up the mood with some trot music that villagers can relate to.
*2020 Timeline
“Our job is to come back safely from a dangerous place.”
In the present timeline, Team Haedong meets to wrap up the project for hikers with companions using wheelchairs. Chief Do reminds Goo-young to make sure the safety and precautions are well communicated. Da-won promises Yi-gang that she will help with her secret. She reassures her not to worry about doing something dangerous.
Her words about bearing a dangerous job remind Yi-gang of the same thing Hyun-jo once told her. Hence, she tells Da-won that their job is to come back safe and sound from every perilous mission. The energetic young ranger promises to do the same with a smile.
While Da-won goes to the mountain through Yi-gang’s instructions, the latter was summoned at the police station to meet illegal herb and plant harvesters.
The same herb smuggler she met at the hospital who shared seeing Hyun-jo assured going only when the spirit is not in a heightened mood on the mountain. He also assured how seeing the mountain ghost really brings death to people who saw him.
Remembering Da-won who also saw Hyun-jo, Yi-gang worries about her junior. Yi-gang verifies Hyun-jo’s apparition with another man who saw her and confirms him to be the mountain grim reaper.
At that same moment, Da-won reaches a beautiful spot with vibrant wildflowers while checking on the cameras setup on the mountains. Unknown to her, a man seems following her while spirit-Hyun-joo foresees danger to befall on Da-won.
Running away from the man, Da-won loses her footing and falls to the ground. Recognizing the suspicious man holding a yogurt drink, Da-won stands up just as Yi-gang tries to call her.
Jirisan Episode 8 Musings
Jirisan vaunted quite a challenging story in this episode about a forest fire. We sure had an elaborated picture of the danger caused if mountain fires can’t be subdued.
Meanwhile, as the mysteries unfold for a clearer picture, Yi-gang with Da-won’s help is keen to uncover the criminal’s identity. The experienced ranger reminds her junior to be wary of suspicious things since the culprit is not easy to deal with. However, it seems Da-won fell for the same trick the culprit has been successfully doing.
It seems that spirit-Hyun-jo has also restricted movements on the mountain. Apart from what we learned of his ability to touch objects on the mountain, his supernatural capabilities can grow but with a risky impact on his barely-living physical self.
Can Hyun-jo help the team in what appears to be a “missing Da-won” situation in the next episode?
