Juvenile Justice Episode 8 Key Moments

The new issue concerns a road collision that appears to have been caused by Do-seok, one of the kids introduced in the restaurant scene in the first episode. Not only is he one of Yeonhwa court’s juvenile offenders under a juvenile protection case, but Do-Seok is also close to Judge Cha Tae-Ju.

Particularly, the charges are driving a rented SUV with a fake ID. Also, escaping the police when questioned and causing unintentional manslaughter. Do-Seok was found with the high school delinquents in the SUV car. They were chased by the policemen, and he came crashing into a motorcycle. As a result, both Do-Seok and the biker were heavily injured and are in critical condition in the hospital.

Meanwhile, the others in the car all lost consciousness. Subsequently, it was revealed that the delinquents are the kids from well-off families. Thus, their parents use money and connection to turn the case in their favor. Hence, the minors are told to confess that it was all Do-Seok’s idea during the trial. Their strategy is to pin the blame on Do-Seok to take advantage of him being admitted to the hospital.

Opening Old Wounds

It was evident with the way Eun Seok paused and gaped, seeing the new Head Judge Geun Hee that she is someone from her well-kept past. The usually stoic Eun Seok turned pale and was lost for words. Apparently, it was not enough that her ex-husband kept on appearing before her recently. Now she even has to work under someone who clearly reminds her of a bitter memory.

Not just that, but since the new case involves Do-Seok, Judge Tae-Ju is clearly too fixated on the situation and is struggling to see matters objectively. On the other hand, Kang Won Joong’s replacement, Head Judge Geun-hee, is adamant that Eun-Seok must follow the rules after ratting on her former superior. Hence, the pressure is on, and room for errors is not allowed in this case.

In the meantime, Tae-Ju cannot stand by idly. Relentless, he takes matters into his own hands even if he shouldn’t. Looking for leads and desperate to help Do-Seok, he starts digging around for clues at the car rental agency.

Despite the ruckus, he acquired a piece of information for the case. He found out that that day, somebody was with Do-seok. Presumably, one of the girls in the car at the accident scene.

Prosecution Process

A flash drive containing a video of Do-Seok being beaten by the males he was with is delivered to the courthouse. The judges then discovered that the mystery sender was one of the girls involved in the accident.

Once Eun Seok played the file, she was confused why Do-Seok was not fending himself. Tae-Ju answered that Do-Seok does not want to have another criminal record, so he clearly lets the assault rather than injure anyone and risks facing charges.

Although the audio of the video file sound has been tampered with, Eun-Seok had it restored.  In particular, while the assault was caught on camera, the male delinquents mentioned images threatening Do-Seok that they would upload it online.

Consequently, Eun-Seok was able to piece the information all together. In fact, when she meets one of the females, Mi-Ju, in court, she realizes that there were compromising photos taken of her, and Do-Seok was merely trying to help her get out of the situation. The gang was apparently bullying them into following their orders.

The Law is Hard, But it is the Law

Soon after, Judge Sim and Judge Cha uncovered the truth. There is more to this case than what the defendants led to the prosecution. In fact, Kwak Do Seok had been physically abused and bullied by the same high school delinquents as him during the accident. Furthermore, as Judge Sim kept reviewing the case and with the help of an anonymous tip, she discovered that Do-Seok did not illegally rent the car of his own volition. He did it to help save a girl from cyber-bullying. Likewise, he did not mean to harm anyone during their car ride. Hence, he made sure to steer the car away from the rider as much as possible in his futile attempt to lessen the damage.

Nevertheless, the motorcycle rider died from the accident. Damages done are irreversible, and Judge Sim emphasizes that just because it was unintentional, and even if Do-Seok means well to help someone, the accident still brought consequences, and he has to be held accountable.

Juvenile Justice Episode 8 Series Musings

Thought-Provoking Episode

It is commendable how well-executed this episode is. The characters exhibited humane characteristics that get in the way of doing their job. Likewise, what it means to be a victim and, at the same time, an offender of unintentional manslaughter was depicted convincingly, if not accurately.

Juvenile Justice continues to exhibit relevant and compelling cases. In fact, the directors, scriptwriters, and the production team are determined to uphold their mission.

During the press conference, they claimed that they strive to deliver a diverse and proper representation of juvenile cases. Indeed, that is what they did, and they did it rightly.
