Military Prosecutor Doberman Episode 9&10 Highlights (Trigger Warning!)

Despite being on suspension, Do Bae Man works earnestly with Cha Woo In and Director Kang Young Seok (Kang Ha Joon). Together, they unravel the strings on the DMZ minefield incident.

Moreover, rather than resorting to trickery and illegal unconventional means, Do Bae Man acts as a proper military prosecutor this time around. In fact, he gave Won Ki-Choon a chance to save his dignity. But he chose to keep his mouth shut.

Hence, Bae Man had no choice but to proceed with their plan B. Subsequently, after successfully convincing the sole witness of the mine incident, Captain Do Bae Man (Ahn Bo Hyun) seeks the help of his aunt Detective Do Soo Kyung to hold a press conference.

The Unbecoming Of Won Ki Choon

After much pretense playing as the mine hero—and being No Hwa Young’s dog for 20 years! Won-Ki Choon’s military career goes down the drain. Won-Ki Choon Yong Moon Go (Kim Young Min) and Seol-Ak (Kwon Dong Ho) teamed up to keep Sergeant Gu from attending the conference.

However, Sergeant Gu escaped thanks to Captain Cha Woo In. In particular, Sergeant Gu Hyeon Suk is the sole witness to how Won-Ki Choon fired his gun at the Reconnaissance commander.

The victim is now vegetative because of the bullet in his head. After conducting an investigation, Cha Woo In found out that the accomplice who gave the wrong diagnosis. Dr. Choo Soo Chan claimed it was a mine shard to conceal the bullet Wo Ki-Choon fired.

The media people were hostile and the main subject of the press conference arrived late. Nevertheless, the press conference was successfully held. And with the statement of the witness along with the proof Director Kang obtained, Do Bae Man was able to sway the public’s opinion.

Subsequently, Won Ki-Choon marches to General No Hwa Young’s office. Now without his leg (which was forcibly taken from him by No Hwa Young) and military rank, he threatens her that the fates of the leaders of the Patriotic Society are in his hands.

In addition to that, he claimed that he will regain his reputation somehow. He tells No Hwa Young he will no longer obey her and limped his way out of the office.

Foreshadowing the Fall Out of the Patriotic Society

Consequently, after seeing the press conference on television, Lee Jae Sik was furious again at No Hwa Young. On the other hand, Commanding General Hong Moo Sup added salt to No Hwa Young’s injury.

Without consulting or informing the 4th Infantry Division’s General (No Hwa Young), he lifted the probation and suspension penalties of Bae Man and Woo In.

To make matters worse, Lieutenant Colonel Won Ki-Choon, found him dead in his quarters. Section Chief Yoon and Ahn found his body on their way to arrest him.

The cause of death was deemed in front of the Patriotic Society’s higher-ups to be suicide. But the truth is that No Hwa Young killed him to prevent any trouble he might stir for her.

On that note, No Hwa Young has to deal with the doubts and pressure from the higher-ups of the Patriotic Society and the persistence and cunning Military Prosecutors Cha Woo In and Do Bae Man.

Unfortunately for the Patriotic Society, Won Ki-Choon has left a journal chronicling all that has transpired so far. Unsurprisingly, Woo In and Bae Man were able to get their hands on that journal. Meanwhile, Yong Moon Go targets Kang’s Solution company to push through with schemes of his own.

No Tae Nam’s New Horrors

On the other hand, sent to the frontlines near the northern border, No Tae Nam’s military horrors continue. It has become apparent to him that he cannot escape the bullying of other military personnel.

Not only is he being targeted for revenge, but he is also. Moreover, he witnesses the cruel treatment of the higher-ranking soldiers of his direct predecessor. Private Pyun Sang Ho is the clown of their unit and is working as a lap dog.

Worst of all, he is even subjected to sexual coercion and abuse. No Tae Nam witnesses all of this and becomes all the more agitated in the military camp.

Do Bae Man’s Redemption Arc

Little did Do Bae Man know that a new test of character and repentance awaited him after closing Won Ki-Choon’s case as he continued to work with Cha Woo In to bring down their families’ perpetrators.

One by one, they bring down the targets and their web of schemes. In particular, their next project is to oust the reputable Commanding General Hong Moo Sup, who has an unstained military track, or so it seems.

As he visited his house in the pretense of thanking him for the suspension lift, Bae Man starts finding dirt in the residence of the Commanding General.

However, Bae Man is now reaping the consequences of his past mistakes. Thus, to continue this next plan, he needs to win first the respect of Staff Sergeant Shin Min Cheol.

Unfortunately, the Staff Sergeant loathes Bae Man for being a corrupted military prosecutor before. His friend, a victim of bullying and domestic violence as a housekeeping soldier, was not given the justice he deserves.

This is because, at that time, Bae Man was still working closely with Yong Moon Gu to fatten his wallet.

After realizing how bad he was before, his conscience started to get the best of him. Subsequently, he had a heartwarming pep talk and lecture from Woo In while he was drunk.

Military Prosecutor Doberman Episode 9&10 Musings

A Penny For Some Thoughts

The delayed realization of General No Hwa Young and Yong Moon Go about Woo In and Bae Man’s identities is a major plot hole. As mentioned last time in the recap of episodes 7 & 8, the people as cunning and calculative as Moon Go and Hwa Young should know it right away.

Most especially because the information about the two military prosecutors was not exactly strategically concealed. Won Ki-Choon’s amputated leg is another bothering concern.

It is still unbelievable how the Liutenant Colonel was able to heal quite rapidly. Even if maybe the conference was held two weeks or even a month since the suspension period of Woo In and Bae Man started.

Not only was he able to bring himself to the courtroom trial, but he can also fight a bit. Woo In’s rescue mission for the captured witness, Sergeant Gu is the proof of this.

More importantly, there was nothing wrong with Won Ki-Choon’s leg. It was amputated to protect the fabricated mine hero story, so logically, he would not be able to walk quite well for an amputee.

Another Two Cents

Taking into consideration that however lame of a soldier he was, he is still a trained soldier, it is possible that he recovered quickly because his body is agile. However, the physical and mental recovery from losing a limb is a lengthy process.

Likewise, exercises to develop muscular strength and control will be included in long-term healing and rehabilitation given the timeline of the occurrences, Won Ki-Choon has not done.

Although most viewers can overlook these two matters, these, however, are examples of poor directorial decisions or half-baked attempts in writing the script continuity.

Even so, the promising potential of the series is not lost. There are redeeming factors for these two episodes. To enumerate, I like Do Bae Man’s character development. Also, the comedic scenes and the investigation scenes are amusing and thrilling. With all that said, the series is still worth-watching and would incite viewers’ anticipation of what is to come.

Witness the unraveling of No Hwa Young’s wicked military schemes in the latest episodes of Military Prosecutor Doberman. Episodes are available for streaming weekly on Viu & iQiyi.
