Monthly Magazine Home Episode 9-12 Key Moments
“United minds make flowers bloom even in ruins.”
After Young-won’s and Ja-sung’s mutual love confession, they decide to date each other. It’s Ja-sung’s first time having a girlfriend, so he is blissfully in love.
He is so happy that he even starts to care for his other employees. However, Young-won suggests they should keep their relationship lowkey because it might affect their work and their relationship with their co-workers.
Ja-sung goes a bit overboard and he starts to treat Young-won harshly in front of others. It’s only a tactic so that their co-workers will not suspect. At first, Young-won is confused but she understands and decides to go with the flow.
He wants to make it up to Young-won so he asks her for a date but Young-won refuses. Ja-sung thinks she is mad at him, but that’s not true. It’s because Young-won accidentally rips the beautiful dress that she borrowed to Editor Ui-Joo.
Then, she accidentally sends a message to Ja-sung that she had an emergency so can’t pay for the rent but there is no emergency. This humiliates her so she said no to their date.
Regardless, Ja-sung is determined to take her on the date. So he uses their work as an excuse for a date. It appears effective’, although he thought it was not an enjoyable date for Young-won. She tells him that she is happy with their date and she just likes being with him.
Meanwhile, Editor Sang-soon won the subscription. Now, everyone expects him to get married soon. However, he finds out that his girlfriend is cheating on him.
He now pretends that he proposed to his girlfriend to his co-workers. Yet, Editor Ui-joo finds out about it and tells Sang-soon to tell everyone and stop pretending.
But Sang-soon didn’t follow this advice and it affects Chief Go, who cares for him like a brother. Everyone accidentally knows about this and feels sorry for Sang-soon. Chief Go and Ui-joo comforted him.
“The longer the relationship, the stronger it becomes. You can even tend each other wounds. I hope our friendship will last for a long time. “
Everything is good, Ja-sung loosens himself a little bit and cares for his employees more. Young-won is proud of this development.
The whole crew had this annual thing where they volunteer to clean an old Korean manor. At first, Ja-sung doesn’t want to be there without Young-won.
However, Young-won’s appointment got canceled so she finds a way to go. Ja-sung then decides to join when he heard about it.
The employees, especially Chief Go didn’t expect Ja-sung’s arrival. But they don’t have a choice but to let him join.
Young-won and Ja-sung try to be alone together, but Ui-joo thinks that Young-won is being a pushover again towards Ja-sung. So Ui-joo tries her best to ‘save’ her from Ja-sung. She even confronts Ja-sung and tells him to treat Young-won right and not harshly.
This ends with the couple planning to tell Ui-joo about their relationship. Young-won thinks she’s the best person to tell about their relationship, since they have been friends and co-workers for a long time. However, an unexpected twist happens when Ui-joo’s ex-boyfriend got a new girlfriend after breaking up with her recently. This makes her mad and puts her into a bitter mood.
Because of this, the initial plan did not push through. So Young-won decides to keep it their secret for now. However, Ja-sung accidentally spills that they are secretly dating due to misunderstanding. Ui-joo is now feeling betrayed, angry and warns that she will tell others about it.
The two of them are more cautious and try their best to keep Ui-joo from spilling about their relationship. She soon realized that she is hurting Young-won the most.
So, she decides to talk to her and understand her. In the end, Ui-joo tells her that she just wants the best for her and she will support their relationship. They know that they can count on each other through ups and downs.
“Home reflects it’s the owner. If you could see how a person lives at home, you can tell what kind of person they are. “
Ja-sung always had this bad reputation with his employees. But he tries his best to change that now. As his birthday approaches, Young-won suggests that they should give him something as a gift or at least greet him. However, everyone disagrees with this except her and Gyeom.
Gyeom shares to Young-won that Ja-sung is not always a cold and strict person. He truly cares for everyone especially those people he love.
However, Gyeom got crestfallen when he saw Young-won and Ja-sung together. He knows that Ja-sung and Young-won are in love with each other. So he gives up his feeling to Young-won.
Ja-sung then treats the editorial team to lunch. There, he tries his best to know them more and find out some common things about them that everyone knows except him.
On his birthday, the team gives him a cake and greet him with a happy birthday. Even though he seems his normal self, he surprises them when he’s the one to give presents to them. He gives them exactly what they need. Everyone is thankful and Young-won is proud of him.
She asks how he knew about their needs when he said that he didn’t, he said he remembers what Young-won said about home is a reflection of the owner. He knows what they need because of their houses.
However, an accident happens to Gyeom and Ja-sung found out about his feeling towards Young-won. Now he feels guilty and confuses about whether he had to give up his friendship with Gyeom or his relationship with Young-won.
“Home is a carrier of one’s life”
After the accident, Ja-sung gives cold treatment to Young-won. Inevitably, that leads to him breaking up with her. Young-won is so confused why he decided to break up with her. But he didn’t tell her the real reason and make up a lie.
Young-won drinks her sorrows away and throw tantrums at Ja-sung’s house. It’s so embarrassing on her part. She is very affected by the breakup. Ui-joo learned about it and gets angry with Ja-sung.
On the other hand, it seems that he’s not affected and everything is normal to him. However, he tries his best not to think about it, but his emotions are all over the place just like Young-won.
Gyeom learns about their break-up and gets angry with Ja-sung for hurting Young-won. He then convinces Ui-joo to spend vacation with Young-won and she agrees with it.
They go to Gyeom’s vacation home and have fun with everyone. Ja-sung unexpectedly spends his weekend with Chief Go. Chief Go becomes his freelance writer because he can’t work with Young-won.
He tries to forget about his feelings through unnecessary cleaning in the office. Chief Go notices that he is going onto something. He advises him about time and healing.
Both of them left their houses to forget about each other and do stuff to help them forget. But no matter what they do or where they go they still miss each other. Ja-sung now regrets giving up his love for Young-won wishes that he can undo his choices.
Monthly Magazine Home Episode 9-12 Musings
My feelings about these episodes went from highest to lowest. It’s like I’m riding a drop tower in an amusement park. We feel happy about Young-won’s and Ja-sung’s relationship especially with sprinkles of funny and sweet scenes. Thus, it comes natural to feel disheartened when they broke up. When Gyeom found out about what happened it was another devastating moment.
On other note, I love the character development of Ja-sung here. He shines in this latest chapters of the series, improving his character’s colors. We can also tell how much he loves Young-won and how he treasures his friendship with Gyeom.
We can also see hints about possible love stories of Sang-soon and Ui-joo. At first, it seems impossible but now we can tell that they going to end up together.
This drama is still promising. It has some common elements, but not overbearing. Now that we are a little near to the end, hopefully, the plot holes will be remedied.
