My Lovely Liar Episodes 3 and 4 Highlights
Bothered about his encounter with Sol-hee, Do-ha didn’t go home for days at the villa. As soon as he gets back, he sees Sol-hee who forces him to lend money to a stranger who lost his phone.
Baffled at how trusting she is, in his alone time he can’t fathom why Sol-hee easily trusts people.
Meanwhile, Shaon suffers an injury while performing which led Chi-hoon and his fellow fans to stage a protest against J Entertainment to protect their artists. Lucky Chi-hoon who steps out to wake himself up and eat chances upon Sahon who also sneaked out to eat ramyun at the convenience store.
“Every family has problems.”
While working on his latest music composition, Do-ha hears something and opens his door. He sees Sol-hee’s mother who realized she got the wrong unit. Just, then her daughter arrives asking for money. Still blaming Sol-hee for how life turned worse for them, she got money from her daughter, nonetheless.
In a flashback, it was revealed how young Sol-hee helped an ajumma get her mother’s bank passbook and important documents leading to her losing money.
Calming herself down, Sol-hee goes to the balcony of her villa and finds Do-ha on his balcony, too. She explains her family situation to which he responds politely.
Sharing her pain of not being close with her mother, he confessed he is also in the same situation. He gives her friendly advice that every family has problems which surprised Sol-hee because she didn’t see Do-ha as someone who can give comfort.
“Are you happy that you know everything?”
For her new client, Sol-hee has to check if the man her client dates is sincere to her. The client’s boyfriend failed to pass Sol-hee’s lie detector test. However, she sees him throwing a sweet surprise to the client who worries if her feelings can be reciprocated.
Bombarded by the lies she hears while walking on the street, she is also reminded of how she broke up with Kang-min (Seo Ji Hoon) when she confirmed his lies about the future he initially promised.
Seeing the jazz bar where Do-ha also works, the music led her to enter the place and enjoy drinking with good music. Then, the man who previously fooled her rich client approached her and is determined to make things hard for her.
Do-ha who thinks Sol-hee’s blind date is the same man she is with steps in to rescue her. On their way home, tipsy Sol-hee blabs about her unlucky encounter which Do-ha can’t process since he does not know that she can hear lies. Concerned about her, he even forgot to wear a mask which she took as him being comfortable with her already.
She stretches her luck by asking Do-ha to accompany her for five more minutes since she really had a bad day and wants to eat real hangover food. He ends up eating the same.
Arriving back at the villa, Sol-hee spots the paparazzi looking for a clue about where Do-ha lives. Dragging him up, she also lets him to her place because the paparazzi went up to snoop on details about Do-ha.
“No one lives in the world without lying.”
To clear the awkwardness, they also munch some apple slices. When Do-ha sees Sol-hee’s bill lying on the floor, he learned of her name so he also gives his name as Seung-ju which perplexed Sol-hee because it was not a lie.
Seeing a phone call from Syaon, Sol-hee thinks her ability might have started acting weird in the job she had with Composer Moo-jin. To validate her suspicion, she asks Do-ha a few questions which he answered truthfully.
Outside, the camping paparazzi meet their match when a burly delivery man demanded his photos to be deleted and made the camera fall in the process.
Kang-min who is newly transferred mediates the altercation and reunites with Sol-hee who is as surprised as he is. He also tells her how he missed her a lot which shook Sol-hee’s heart.
“I saw you with a man, so I got worried.”
Seeing Do-ha after he came from the market, Sol-hee makes a dinner deal by using how she helped him with the paparazzi as leverage.
At night, while Sol-hee struggles to drag her cafe’s standee signboard, Kang-min helps. They finally discuss what happened after breaking up. Sol-hee relays the hurt she felt when he left the town after they broke up. But Kang-min is intent to win her back which is why he asked to be transferred to the neighborhood she lives in.
Wanting to escape the moment, when he brings up if she is already seeing someone, Do-ha comes on perfect timing and she pleads with her eyes for him to ride on her claim that they are dating.
Do-ha rescues her by holding her hand. He also offers to bring her home and listens to her story that Kang-min is a good man.
Luring Do-ha with yummy dishes, he found himself sitting in front of her at a private restaurant. Their dinner was cut though when he answered a call from Shaon.
Flashes of memories came back when it dawned on him that she could be taking her life by going to the beach. Something that he painfully experienced with his ex-lover.
Straightening up Sha-on, the stress overwhelmed Do-ha and lets Sol-hee drive the car back to the villa. Muttering softly, Do-ha says something about not killing a woman, which rang to be untrue to Sol-hee’s built-in lie-detector ears.
My Lovely Liar Episodes 3 and 4 Musings
Do-ha’s quick response to rescue Sol-hee from her confrontation with Kang-min adds another clarity to his past experience and current situation of being labeled a murderer of his ex-lover.
Based on the scattered clues so far, we can infer that he was in a relationship where the woman was obsessed with him. In the first episode, the woman’s brother also asserts that Do-ha cheated. The flashback of what happened to the investigation is still vague aside from the hint that the woman vanished, thus it remains a cold case.
On this note, the intrigue to be highlighted in the story that would involve Do-ha’s painful past is aligned rightfully with Sol-hee’s strange ability. Would she be guided by her ability or would she see past through Do-ha’s heart by using her heart as well?
Spotlight to obsessive love is often pictured in romance stories as destructive. We can foresee it more to be explored as the narrative develops.
Another thing to look forward to in My Lovely Liar is how the love triangle would shape among Sol-hee, Do-ha and Kang-min or if there would be more complicated situation that would tangle Do-ha and Kang-min.
Take lessons about trusting someone and overcoming self-doubts with Sol-hee and Do-ha in My Lovely Liar!
