Our Blues Episode 6 Highlights

The first 8 minutes of this episode pick up from where episode 5 ends. Yeongju and Hyeon are about to go home after their ultrasound schedule. The tearful young couple discusses keeping their baby. Hyeon says he does not have it in himself to say goodbye to the child inside Yeongju’s womb.

After hearing its heartbeat, it drove his resolve to be responsible for what happened. Meanwhile, Yeongju is still resolute in aborting the child despite Hyeon’s pleas and reasonings.

However, on their way home, a fire extinguisher in the bus suddenly sets off and Yeong-Ju begins to panic. The smoke it emits makes Yeongju nauseous. As a result, they got off the bus a few stops early from their supposed station.

There, the two continued to weigh the consequences of keeping the child. Hyeon reassures Yeonju once more, and this time, she is convinced and agrees to trust him and have their baby.

Subsequently, as they get drenched in the sudden downpour, Eun-Hui, who is on her way to the market, spots the two happily and intimately sharing a kiss. Afterwards, the storyline transitions to Seon-A fetching her son from school.

A Tragic Accident

Seon-A tried her best to get up and fetch her son from school. They happily sing children’s songs on the drive back home but unfortunately, she suddenly felt heavy and queasy. She disregards the discomfort and continues to drive however when she was looking at his son a car abruptly turned. She tried her best to hit the brakes but, the crash was unavoidable.

Seon-A shows the investigator around their house. She did a great job tidying up the house, and cleaning and organizing her son’s toys.

Apparently, it has been six months since she and her husband divorced. Consequently, Seon-A is embroiled in a custody fight for her son Yeol. It is evident as well that the odds of her winning the custody case are slim.

Child Custody Case

As the investigator takes a seat, she informs Seon-A that she has to answer some difficult questions. Seon-A states that the reason for their divorce was due to differences in personalities that led to frequent misunderstandings.

The investigator says this is not the reason claimed by Seon-A’s ex-husband.  Her son Yeol apparently remained with her for a few months following their divorce. But she lost custody of Yeol because of the vehicle accident, believed to be caused partly by a shift in Seon-A’s medication.

After the interrogation, Seon-A watches a video of Yeol being questioned by the child custody investigator. Yeol was asked about what he thinks of his father and mother.

However, when Yeol was about to answer how he views his mother, the scene transitions to a heartbroken Seon-A sobbing while driving at night.

A Fateful Reunion

Dong-Seok goes about his usual routine clueless about what fate has in store for him. Ironically, Seon-A is heading back to Jeju. As if that is not enough, her car was parked right next to Dong-Seok’s truck on the ferry.

As Dong-Seok lists his inventory of goods, he sees Seon-A on the ferry’s deck. This bothers Dong-Seok for the rest of the ferry trip.

What is more, after the ferry docked on Jeju Island, Seon-A’s car started malfunctioning. She attempts to contact assistance because she got stuck on the side of the road. Dong-Seok who was heading in the same direction eventually stops and assists her. Nevertheless, he was being cold and distant towards Seon-A.

Moreover, the memory Dong-Seok has of their last meeting years ago was unpleasant. It reminded him of the uncomfortable beach moment in which Dong-Seok kisses her but Seon-A rejected him.

On the other hand, Seon-A acted as if nothing happened when she met Dong-Seok. She then abandons her car and calls for a cab.  Ironically, just as Dong-Seok is about to leave, his car also breaks down just a few meters away from Seon-A’s car.

Small Town, Small World

As Seon-A reached Jeju Island, the townsfolk continue with their bustling routines. For instance, In-Gwon and Ho-Sik are back at it again fighting each other every chance they get. They did so in front of the elders who are preparing their goods for the market. The road was too narrow, and both their vehicles need to pass.

The two instantly fight over who has to move back to let the other pass. Eun-Hui as usual acts as the peacekeeper and even threatened the two that she is going to collect In-Gwon and Ho-Sik’s debts if they do not stand down and go on their separate ways.

Seeing how much the two loathe each other, Eun Hui could not help but worry about what will happen if In-Gwon and Ho-Sik find out about Yeongju and Hyeon’s relationship.

Meanwhile, at school, some classmates are already suspecting that Yeongju is pregnant. Hyeon and Yeongju know they cannot hide the truth much longer.

Hence, the two decided to finally tell their parents about the pregnancy. The two seemingly gained more confidence as they put more trust in each other. They also revealed their relationship at school by holding hands while walking in the hallway.

A Mother’s Grief

While settling in her room accommodation, Seon-A remembers her son’s video. Yeol’s voice kept ringing in her ears. However, every time it was the part when Yeol reveals what he thinks of her, the thought gets disrupted.

That night, Seon-A walks inside Eun-Hui’s restaurant. She is currently staying at Eun-Hui’s board and breakfast down the road.

She was just about to sit for a drink when Don-Seok goes in. When he sees her and walks out in dismay. Although he comes right back for a drink. Instead, Seon-A chooses to leave. Eun Hui, Jung Joon, and Young-Ok were all taken aback by what they witnessed. They all asked Dong-Seok if he knew Seon-A.

Seon-A then stands at the end of the dock, staring aimlessly at the waves until dawn breaks.  She reflects on her time with her son. It was then revealed that the last part of the video was Yeol saying his mother is sick.

In the video, he said that “Mom is sick. That’s why I can’t play with me.” This repeatedly torments Seon-A. As a result, she dives into the sea giving up on hope and life completely.
