Our Blues Episode 11 Highlights

Episode 11 begins showing Dong-Seok and Seon-A in a closer relationship than before. The two now openly discuss their pain and problems. In particular, Seon-A opens up about what she thinks about her father. She told Dong-Seok how she hated him for not informing her about how difficult and miserable his life was.

However, she later blamed herself for not trying harder to communicate with her father. She regretted how she ran away every time her father and uncle fought. Seon-A realized that she should have tried asking him why. Until now, she admitted that she keeps wondering what could have happened if she had told her father that she was there for him. That she cares and wants to know what is going on.

She then recalled the incidents of remorse which constantly tormented her. Hence, she advised Dong-Seok to make amends with his mother and told him how much he will regret it if his mother dies.

‘Til We Meet Again

Their deep conversation was cut shortly after Seon-A announced her decision. Apparently, her friend offered her a position at an interior design firm. She told Dong-Seok that she would accept it so she could earn money again and slowly get her life back together. This means she has no reason to return to Jeju.

Evidently, Dong-Seok felt slightly sad at the thought, but he was mature enough to respect her decision. He then offers to move in and rent Seon-A’s former house since she has already paid a 1-year worth of deposit in advance. Seon-A agrees with the idea of Dong-Seok taking care of the house in her stead.

That night, Dong-Seok stayed over for the last time at Seon-A’s apartment. Dong-Seok advised her that she should exercise and clean her house often to keep her sad thoughts at bay. Or it could tire her body so she could sleep better at night.

Early in the morning, Dong-Seok departed to return to Jeju. Dong-Seok sends Seon-A a heartwarming message. She read this when she woke, and Dong-Seok had already been on his way to Jeju. In the text message, Dong-Seok reminds Seon-A to keep in touch and contact him if her depression is too much.

A Mother’s Resolve

Subsequently, Seon-A becomes employed in an interior design firm. She also takes her medication regularly to keep herself functioning and well. She then goes to meet her son Yeol to have dinner with him. Yeol is still afraid of her at first. Hence, Seon-A apologized for what happened on Yeol’s birthday.

She then told her son how she was feeling and opened up about her depression in simple terms so the toddler would understand. Likewise, she also told him that Yeol is the light of her life. Although everything appears gloomy to her, Yeol’s light glows brightly in her heart, which keeps her going in life.

After dinner, Tae-hun fetched Yeol. The ex-couple then discusses Seon-A’s plan to file an appeal to reclaim custody of her child. But this time, she tells her ex-husband that she will seek custody once she knows she is well. Not when she is dependent on Yeol but when Yeol needs a strong mother. She vows that she will file the appeal when Yeol wishes to be with her, not because she can’t live without him.

And so, she declared that she would strive to get better. Her ex-husband Tae-Hun felt relieved seeing Seon-A determined. He smiles at her and promises that if that day comes, there is no need to file an appeal. When she gets better, he will allow Seon-A to raise Yeol.

Seon-A made such a huge declaration, but her mental health still needs time to recuperate and heal. So, as she returned to her apartment, her health felt heavy, and her view began to dim once more. Unlike before, though, she did not succumb to it. Instead, she listens to Dong-Seok’s recording.

It was Dong-Seok’s announcement for his mobile goods business. Seemingly the audio recording calms Seon-A. Moreover, she follows Dong-Seok’s advice. She started exercising on the treadmill, hoping she could fall asleep quickly afterward.

A Haenyeo’s Day-Off

The Elder haenyeo divers still ignore Young-Ok collectively. Though it bothers her, Young-Ok still continued with her day and rode Captain Jeong-jun’s boat to dive and harvest abalones. In fact, she is excited because she will be going on a trip with Jeong-jun. Their itinerary includes riding a boat to the location, riding a bike to tour the place, and then settling down to drink wine and have a small picnic.

While they are dining, Yeong-Ok pries about why the haenyeo divers are ignoring her. She asks Jeong-jun about it, and he offers her sound advice. Jeong-jun insists that she must stay close to Ms. Hyeon and the other haenyeos. He tells her that she has to make an effort with them to earn back their trust.

During their date, a random number yet again calls Young-Ok. She did not accept the call as usual because she wanted to indulge in resting on the shore with Jeong-jun. What is more, despite the two of them agreeing that their date will only be a day trip, they missed the ferry to Jeju. The two ended up staying in a rest house for the night.

That night, the two were a bit tense and anxious since it would be their first night together. Young-Ok asked Jeong-jun to make a pact not to sleep together drunk. After showering, the two drank beer while discussing the rules of their relationship. The rules they agreed upon were that Young-Ok must only drink alcohol with him or when he is around or with Eun-Hui and friends.

This also applies to Jeong-jun. Moreover, they emphasized that there must be respect in their relationship. Young-Ok added that Jeong-jun must promise to keep things light and fun. But since they were already conversing about their relationship, Jeong-jun tried his luck and asked Young-Ok about her parents.

Like always, Young-Ok answered that her parents were artists. However, they stopped painting when she and “Jae-ang” (Disaster) was born. This baffled Jeong-jun, and he prodded who “Disaster” was. Young-Ok, who obviously is not ready for the conversation yet, excused herself to the bathroom.

Her phone began ringing again while she was away. Jeong-jun was trying hard not to answer it. But his curiosity got the best of him. As he answers the phone, he politely informs the caller that Young-Ok left her phone and asks who the caller is. However, not a sound was heard from the other line.

Our Blues Episode 11 Musings

This episode is very satisfying and, at the same time, intriguing to watch. Because of Seon-A’s efforts to bounce back from her depression is inspiring and relatable. It would make viewers hopeful to see how it will turn out for her. More importantly, since healing is never linear, it was nice to see a realistic depiction of Seon-A’s beginnings in her journey toward recovery.

Additionally, she and Dong-Seok are now on good terms once again. Their sweet shared moments in this episode will make viewers look forward if there is a chance for love to bloom between them. Dong-Seok accepts and loves Seon-A despite her being a divorced woman with a toddler child.

In fact, he believes that this does not make Seon-A less and does not define her. He is also supportive of her and cares about her son as well. If the two ever get back together, it will hopefully be a healthier relationship that will lead to a happy life for both Dong-Seok and Seon-A.

Besides that, this episode paved an avenue for viewers to look forward to. The unknown caller (Who was mistaken before as the Captain who kept on bugging Young-Ok) will be revealed soon. Probably, we will get to know more about the very mysterious Young-Ok. For now, it is great to see her and Captain Jeong-jun in love and supportive of one another.

Not to mention, the chemistry between Kim Woo Bin (Captain Park Jeong-jun) and Han Ji Min (Lee Young-Ok) is a chef’s kiss!
