Queen Of Tears Episodes 5 and 6 Highlights

“Does he think I will eat him alive? Is he afraid of me?”

Hyun-woo takes Hae-in home, blows her hair dry, and treats her wounds. The mood is all set for getting closer. Except, Hyun-woo runs away, leaving Hae-in behind. Worried, Hae-in goes to look for him, only to get disappointed when she overhears him saying he will only go back after she sleeps.

In the morning, the air is cold between Hyun-woo and Hae-in. Adding fuel to the already blazing fire, they are greeted by Eun-seong. Apparently, Eun-seong will stay from now on at the guesthouse where he can execute his plan of getting rid of Hyun-woo more efficiently. In a family full of idiots (except for Hae-in and maybe her aunt), Hyun-woo is the only obstacle in Eun-seong’s path.

As a kid, Eun-seong was raised in an orphanage sponsored by The Queens group. But it seems like he took his admiration of Grandpa Hong and the dream of following in his footsteps a little too seriously, as he wants to take over the company now.

“Now, we are married. So, I should be by your side.”

With the clock ticking, Hae-in goes against her doctor’s advice to wait and rushes her treatment plan. Originally, she was supposed to go to Germany with Hyun-woo. Yet after what happened between them, Hae-in travels alone without telling him.

Hot on Hae-in’s heels is her dear husband, who finally gets back to his senses. After going around in circles, Hyun-woo and Hae-in finally admit to wanting to be together. Those two are so much in love. Yet they keep pretending to be okay and hiding their true feelings that their love is lost under the pretense.

“Just sleep wherever you want. Do as you want. Follow your heart.”

The trip serves as a second honeymoon for our lovely couple, where they awkwardly start sleeping in the same room and happily go on dates. Initially, the lab turned Hae-in down due to her low white blood cell count, but it all changes after Hyun-woo threatens to sue them for fraud. (They refused to treat Hae-in after receiving a hefty donation from her.)

With the support of her beloved husband, Hae-in starts her treatment plan. She gets another seizure and disappears, getting Hyun-woo worried to death. When he finds her, Hae-in opens up to Hyun-woo about how her late elder brother died while saving her. As a result, she kept feeling guilty throughout her life. Hyun-woo comforts her saying it isn’t her fault.

“Tell me this isn’t true. Say it.”

If you got a foreboding feeling when Hae-in expressed how blessed she was to have a husband who cares solely about her and not money, it is because it is. We end this week with Hae-in finding out about the divorce, no thanks to Eun-seong’s evil plans. She is shocked, to say the least, wishing for Hyun-woo to deny it. Yet, Hyun-woo admits to everything.

We also get more flashbacks from the miscarriage. Back then, Hae-in suppressed her feelings and blamed herself for losing their unborn baby. Unable to bring herself to enter the baby’s room, Hae-in had it emptied without discussing it with Hyun-woo, claiming there was no need for it anymore. Hurt by her unilateral decision, Hyun-woo moved his stuff to the baby’s room and lived separately from Hae-in since then.

Instead of addressing the problem properly and openly communicating their true feelings, Hyun-woo chose avoidance and Hae-in buried herself with work and pretended to be fine. Which only split them apart. I hope they have learned their lesson and will resolve their problem more honestly this time.

Queen Of Tears Episodes 5 and 6 Musings

The drama shines the most when it focuses on our OTP. And we can’t help but replay their scenes together over and over again. We know Hyun-woo and Hae-in’s path won’t be covered with roses, given the social status difference. Still, we wish the drama to tone down the external conflicts and arouse tension through interpersonal interactions between our leads. Case in point: having Hae-in stumbling across the divorce papers or picking up on the clues herself instead of the spy game we got.

While having an antagonist isn’t necessarily bad, Eun-seong is a 1D sociopathic villain with no layers or real motivations. There are even hints at him being a secret child of Grandpa Hong’s mistress who seems to be the mastermind behind everything. Are unnecessary multiple plot lines a must for rom-coms these days?

Hyun-woo’s family getting worried about Hae-in and going out to search for her serves as the best juxtaposition to the cold Hong household. It is palpable how Hae-in felt comfortable there, eating all sorts of food the villagers gave her and not minding anything, unlike how she has to keep her guard up at home all the time.

Hae-in’s decision to rush her treatment plans is mostly because of how her family will try to steal what is hers if they learn of her condition. Even after she started treatment and things were going well, it was all ruined again because of how stupid her family was, dancing right to Eun-seong’s tone.

It was refreshing to see Hae-in’s aunt, Hong Beom-ja, being on her side, comforting Hae-in after learning about her illness and calling Hyun-woo out for not being by Hae-in’s side. Other than Hae-in, she is the only sane person in the Hong household.

The reason why Hae-in fell in love with Hyun-woo was how he unconditionally loved her, even when mistaking her for a poor girl, unlike other people who only approached her because of her family background. And if Hyun-woo wants to win her back, he has one challenging task to do, regaining her trust. It might take much effort to convince Hae-in. But let’s sincerely hope for them to make up and protect their love against all the odds.

Ironically, for all the effort he has been putting into acting like a doting husband so that Hae-in would write him into her will, Hyun-woo ends up stopping from revising her will. Money is pointless to Hyun-woo if Hae-in ends up dying. He only wants her to survive and live happily together.

Will Hae-in and Hyun-woo rediscover the genuine romance that initially bind them in Queen of Tears? Find out on weekends on tvN! International fans can watch it on Netflix!
