Racket Boys Episodes 5 & 6 Key Moments

Doubles with ‘Ace’ Hae-kang and ‘Team Captain’ Yoo-Dam

Hae-Kang and Yoo-dam are trying to do doubles for their upcoming summer competition. Yong-Tae and Woo-chan are more suitable to do the doubles since their teamwork is great Coach Yoon suggests that Hae-kang and Yoo-Dam should do doubles too.

Their teamwork ain’t working and they keep bickering with each other while playing. Instead of compromising with each other, they are trying to outshine each other. Coach Yoon is worried that it might ruin their friendship and team. So he creates a practice regimen that can help both of them, in the end, they become more closer with each other than ever.

Yong-Tae’s Helpful Herbal Medicine

We knew that Yong Tae’s father is a “Man of nature”. In this episode, we learn that Yong-Tae also has some knowledge when it comes to herbs and other medicinal plants. His father is giving him some herbal drinks but he didn’t want to drink them since it’s bitter. So Coach Yoon is drinking them instead.

We also know about Se-Yoon’s headaches in previous episodes, whenever she has a tournament. Hae-kang told Yong-Tae to make a herbal drink that can cure headaches for her. Yong-Tae made one and it helps Se-Yoon to sleep better and ease her headaches.

Because of this, she gave Yong-tae a present but he clears that she should be thankful to Hae-Kang since he’s the one who asked him to make the tonic. Se-Yoon was surprised because of it but she couldn’t say anything to Hae-kang. This gives us a hint that maybe she is having a crush on him.

A Lesson on the Meaning of Trust

Since their competition is coming, the boys are required to do extensive running drills. However, Hae-kang, Yong-tae, Woo-chan, and unexpectedly In-sol ditch the practice and go to Gwangju. Yoon-dam didn’t join them but promise not to tell coach Yoon where they went.

On their way there, Yong-tae notices that he lost their pocket money and now they’re doomed. Hungry and lost, the boys found a job at a construction site. Although, underage, they got the job.

They meet two unusual adults. Chief Yoo and Jun-Yeong (Kang Seung-hoon).  Chief Yoo is strict while Jun-Yeong is cool. Since they didn’t know anything about that work. They make mistakes but Jun-Yeong saves them and gives them ‘advice’. That advice almost put Hae-kang in danger. Luckily, Chief Yoo saves him.

Their work is finally done. But when they’re about to go home, Jun-Yeong asks for their money and threatens them that they won’t able to go home because they need to finish their job. The boys got scared but In-sol had an idea and called Chief Yoo. Unfortunately, Chief Yoo does them wrong, too.

They finally realize that the job scammed them since they are young and naive. When they went home, Yong-tae finds their money in his pocket which means that he didn’t lose it but it was there the whole time. The boys are frustrated but they learn a lesson that you can’t trust people too easily. Yong-tae said that they could only trust Coach Yoon.

Coach Yoon Walks Down The Memory Lane

Coach Yoon catches up with his teammate Lee Jae-jung (Park Hae Soo) from high school till college who is now a coach too. He is a strict but lovable coach of an elementary badminton team. They have a great bond as teammates since high school and college. But deepens when they were in college.

In college, the seniors often treated them badly and their coaches did absolutely nothing about it. Up until in their 3rd year, their seniors still beat them if some lower-class men committed mistakes. His friend acquired this toxic behavior but he stops it before it’s too late.

Presently, the experience still lives in their mind. Because of that, they became great and kind coaches to their teams. They learn that athletes try hard to be the best and coaches should be the ones to inspire and teach them good ways.

Racket boys episode 5 and 6 Musing

In Racket Boys episodes this week, the character dynamics are becoming more evident. We can see that Hae-kang considers the boys as his friends and teammates now. Unlike in the earlier episodes where he is in denial about it.

Coach Yoon also improves this episode. We saw how he creates the practice regimen for Hae-Kang and Yoo-dam and how he didn’t scold the boys when they ditch the practice but instead, he understands that they are pressured for the Summer Competition.

While the plot still focuses on badminton and friendship between the boys, we can see some hints about Hae-kang and Se-Yoon’s possible romance on the side. We know that he likes her and we are hopeful that she likes him too. On that note, there is also another couple to look out for, which are Yoon-dam and Han-sol. This blooming romantic mood in the series would add charm to the story.
