Summer Strike Episode 8 Highlights

“You were waiting for Dae Bum, weren’t you?”

Fulfilling Bom’s grandma’s wish, Yeo Reum, Dae Bum, Bom, and Jae Hoon hop on the train for their vacation. As they get off the bus, they were greeted by the lush fields. But Jae Hoon is too distracted by the view that he forgets his baggage in the vehicle.

To make up for the food in the forgotten luggage, Bom suggests picking peaches from the farm. Because of their help, the owner treats them with a chicken. Now, they will not have to worry about food.

Through the beautiful weather, they get to enjoy and play in the cool water of the stream. Jae Hoon presents a sweet ukelele performance.

Meanwhile, at dinner, they were surprised that the chicken the owner had promised was alive. Seeing the live animal, they eat ramen instead.

As they finishes a fulfilling yet unhealthy dinner, Jae Hoon was notified that his baggage will be dropped off at the bus station. He goes with Bom and leaves Yeo Reum and Dae Bum together.

“I’ve been really happy since meeting you.”

While waiting, Jae Hoon admits that he was happy ever since meeting Bom. He recounts his bad days in the U.S. and how he gets sent back to Korea for punching his racist classmate.

Revealing that his mother and father were famous psychology professors, he expresses his sadness about not being understood and how they were embarrassed by him. He compares himself to his smart parents, whereas, he is the opposite.

While walking home, he tells her about the first time he starts liking her and how Bom approached him first. Making Jae Hoon surprised, Bom confesses that she remembers their first interaction. As the gentle rain drops, he then pulls her for a kiss.

“Dae Bum is acting weird because of her. Dae Bum changed so much. What do I do? I think I like Dae Bum.”

Dressed up in a dapper suit, Sung Min waits for Ji Young for their date. While she thinks of it as a simple lunch, he treats her to a hearty meal and they had a scenic motorcycle ride on their way to the restaurant.

During the dinner, Ji Young asks a favor to Sung Min to kick out Yeo Reum from the building. She vented out her anger towards the girl who she labels as irresponsible and incompetent for quitting her job in Seoul.

When Sung Min asks if Yeo Reum said something to her, Ji Young breaks down into tears and admits that she thinks she likes Dae Bum. That was jealousy kicking in.

Yeo Reum: When I’m with you Dae Bum, I don’t have to talk a lot. So that makes me feel at ease.

Dae Bum: It’s the opposite for me. When I’m with you, I keep finding myself talking to you.

Sitting on the terrace, Dae Bum and Yeo Reum talk about how each other’s presence affected them. He also gets candid about how having a conversation with people became a burden to him.

Guilty about her settlement in Angok, Yeo Reum blamed herself for quitting her job, coming to the beach and library, renting the billiard hall, and most of all, moving to the town.

Consoling and easing her regrets, Dae Bum lists all their encounters and how those days made him happy. He sincerely expresses his happiness ever since Yeo Reum came to Angok.

While drenched in the rain, Yeo Reum tells Dae Bum to move to Seoul and not let a good opportunity slip away. But that was not what she wants. Like comforting her, he joined her under the gentle rain.

“I’m Bom’s boyfriend. Can’t you tell?”

The next morning, Jae Hoon works in place of Bom’s part-time job in the restaurant. As they are walking home, a strange man on a motorcycle circle around and scares them. When he removed his helmet, it was Bom’s best friend Dae Ho (Lim Jae Hyuk).

Greeting his friend, Dae Ho gives Bom a headlock hug. Seeing that made Jae Hoon jealous which prompted him to introduce himself as Bom’s boyfriend.

“My running shoes ripped. So I don’t think I can run for a while.”

As usual, Dae Bum goes for his morning jog and was expecting company. But it seems like Yeo Reum was putting up some distance between them and skipped her exercise. Dae Bum asks her and affirms she will not be running because her shoes are ripped.

Not letting his running buddy miss her routine, Dae Bum roughly measures Yeo Reum’s shoe size by hand through the floor where she stands. (Aww. What an adorable and thoughtful guy.)

“In this world, you have to coexist with people you like and dislike. It’s just the way it is, and there’s nothing you can do about it. However, as for those you dislike you can just forget about them. But people you like can make you sad because you like them. The people who have made me really sad were always the ones whom I loved very much. The depth of sadness is always directly proportional to how much I like the person. Knowing that, I am now afraid of liking someone. I don’t want to be sad anymore.”

Distracting herself from the thought of Dae Bum going to Seoul, Yeo Reum keeps herself busy by bathing Gyeoul and cleaning the bathroom. She pondered on how the people she likes are the ones who make her sad.

Like a renewed version of herself, she does not let sadness be in control of her life. She sprinted to Dae Bum’s house to wish him a safe trip to Seoul and that she will see him when he gets back. This, of course, makes Dae Bum smile widely. Then, he gives the shoes he bought and surprisingly sees that Yeo Reum’s shoes are fine. This urged him to make her run twice a day.

The culprit

Coming home from the library, Yeo Reum hears a rattling sound of spray paint from the rooftop. Shockingly, she discovered Geun Ho vandalizing the floor. She quickly hides and sneaks to the rooftop. But she goes back to film as proof. Much to her surprise, Geun Ho pops in front and startling her, causing her to roll down the stairs.

Summer Strike Episode 8 Musings

As the culmination of Summer Strike gets closer to knowing the motive behind the spray paint incident.

With our heroine catching him in the act, we can expect the revelation in the following chapter. As seen in the next episode’s sneak peek, Geun Ho’s mother begs her not to reveal anything.

Through that, we can anticipate the decision she will make. Seeing that she looks fine in the preview, I can rule out that her fall from the rooftop stairs is not that serious.

While there are unfortunate lows in this episode, there are also beautiful highs. There were minor breakthroughs in the budding relationship of our couple. We can learn from their honest and open communication. It is obvious that some feelings are being held back, but there is some real progress, which is still nice.

Funny enough, the kids are way faster in advancing to their relationship and getting intimate. But of course, we can wait for Yeo Reum and Dae Bum’s turn.
