Summer Strike Episode 9 Highlights
In the previous episode, Yeo Reum catches Geun Ho in the act of vandalizing her rooftop.
While she tries to film him, the spray paint perpetrator noticed her, surprising her, which caused her to fall down the stairs.
Attempting to run, Yeo Reum tumbles down the ground. He then covers her mouth to prevent her from shouting and escaping. But as Geun Ho’s mom witnesses the scene and shouts at him to come down, Yeo Reum successfully gets away.
“I’m really sorry. Actually, the guy you saw just now is my son.”
Terrified of what she just experienced, Yeo Reum immediately calls the police. But Geun Ho’s mom dashes to her place and averted her from informing the police.
Confusing Yeo Reum, the lady apologizes to her and admitted that she’s Geun Ho’s mother and discloses his son’s intellectual disability.
She revealed that his son liked Sun Ah and he witnessed her die in the billiard hall. That led him to drive people away from the hall, thinking that whoever stays there will also die. That is also the reason behind vandalizing the building.
Yeo Reum was dumbfounded by what she found out. Begging on her knees, Geun Ho’s mom pleads for her to keep it a secret as she is scared that they will be forced out and his son will be sent to an institution.
“This originated from the idea Professor Lee and I came up with together. So regarding any of his papers pertaining to this idea, it has nothing to do with me.”
In Seoul, Dae Bum and Professor Lee are in a disciplinary meeting for the paper plagiarism incident.
Surrounded by the high-ranking officials of the university, Dae Bum was being accused of stealing Professor Holland’s idea.
Without a word, Dae Bum stands up and starts writing formulas on the board. Everyone is astonished and speechless. He cleared up that he has nothing to do with the allegations and that he and Professor Lee came up with the idea.
Without a question, Deputy Manager dismisses the meeting and advises about the deliberation.
“I hope to learn a lot from you, my teacher.”
Visiting Yeo Reum for a reading and writing lesson, Bom’s grandma is excited to learn from her new teacher. As Yeo Reum drops Grandma home with Gyeoul, they heard Geun Ho being scolded by her mom.
Recounting her confrontation with Geun Ho, she seeks advice from Bom’s grandma. Conflicted about whether to tell Mr. Bae or not, Grandma advises her to follow her heart. Helping her decide, she tells Yeo Reum that Geun Ho’s the sweetest.
When the police came in to check, Yeo Reum lied and said that Geun Ho is just playing with her puppy.
“If she was going to bail us, she shouldn’t have had us.”
Having dinner with Dae Ho, Bom informs Jae Hoon that it’s okay for him not to come as she’s currently with her friend. Sounding defeated and gloomy, Jae Hoon agrees and wishes her to enjoy her meal.
During the conversation, Bom brings up Dae Ho’s dad and he revealed that his Dad did not know that he got out.
Causing Bom to look nervous, Dae Ho mentions that his Mom visited him when he was at the detention center. He tells Bom that she should not see his mom as it felt awful for him.
The reason for her uneasy expression upon discussing Dae Ho’s mom is that Bom and Dae Ho are half-siblings.
“It’s nice to hear your voice.”
It seems like Dae Bum is slowly coming out of his shell. He just bought his first-ever phone and the first person he texted is – yes, you guessed that right -Yeo Reum.
Spending the night conversing through the phone, the two talk about their childhood until dawn. When Yeo Reum asks if his wrists hurt, Dae Bum suddenly starts calling, worried that it’s her hands that hurt.
Ecstatic after she answers the call, Dae Bum smiles widely upon hearing her voice. Communicating his feelings, Dae Bum tells Yeo Reum that it’s nice hearing her voice. Of course, this sweet comment makes her kick her feet in the air and her heart fluttering (same, girl!)
Though they are a little far away from each other, they continue talking to each other on the phone. They are even jogging and watching the sunrise together virtually.
“Going back to Angok is the right thing to do.”
Accompanying Ji Young in her house hunt, Dae Bum thanked her for all the help he received. However, he admits that he cannot commit to staying in Seoul for long. He thinks that going back to Angok is the right thing to do. As usual, she retorts him telling him to stay and not to return to Angok.
Seeking support from Ji Young, Dae Bum asks her to believe in him as a friend and a family. But as expected, this only upsets her.
“Just let yourself like him. Your mind is like a wild horse. You can never tame it. Just surrender to your emotions. Don’t think about whether or not he can reciprocate your feelings. You don’t need to worry about that at all. There are good things about having a one-sided crush on someone. Regardless of what that person feels, it’s just nice to see the person.”
Dismayed by his decision, Ji Young gets drunk. When Joon calls from his Dad’s phone, Sung Min discovers drunk Ji Young fighting with a passerby. Scared of what might happen to her, Sung Min rushes to Seoul and picks up Ji Young.
“There are two things I wanted to see when I was in there. You and the sea. Today I got to see both. I need nothing else.”
Bom is on her way to her snack date with Jae Hoon that they previously agreed on. As she is heading to their meeting place, she runs into Dae Ho and was offered a ride.
But when they are nearing the restaurant, instead of dropping Bom off at the diner, Dae Ho turns left and takes a different route. He steals Bom from her date with Jae Hoon to go to the sea.
Naturally, Jae Hoon recognizes his girlfriend on the back ride. But he chooses to believe that she will come.
Diligently waiting for Bom, Jae Hoon receives a call from his girlfriend saying that they should reschedule next time. Out of anger, he throws his phone to a metal surface and breaks.
“You look pretty today.”
As expected from Dae Bum, he ditches the lunch meeting with the university chancellor to continue his postponed movie date with Yeo Reum.
On her way to their date, Yeo Reum passes by a boutique and browses clothes without buying them. But, it turns out that she bought a beautiful white dress which makes Dae Bum awestruck by her beauty. He cannot even deny his astonishment and tells her up front that she’s really pretty today. She is even wearing the shoes Dae Bum gave her.
Yeo Reum invites him to a chicken and beer but Dae Bum declines and promises that they will eat next time since he will be going back to Seoul. Admittedly, he only came to Angok just to watch the movie with Yeo Reum.
Seeing Dae Bum off to Seoul, Yeo Reum runs with him to the bus terminal.
And before bidding goodbye, Dae Bum thanked Yeo Reum for her advice, saying it was easy for him to decide whether to stay in Seoul or not.
Concluding this week’s episode, Yeo Reum sees Geun Ho frantically running and coming out of the billiard hall and Bom waiting for her Grandma at home.
Summer Strike Episode 9 Musings
Evidently, a lot of events transpired in episode 9 of Summer Strike. However, since the series consists of only twelve episodes, the revelations are particularly sluggish but still understandable.
Notably, this chapter emphasizes the things people do for their loved ones.
There is Geun Ho’s mom who begs Yeo Reum not to divulge her son’s misbehavior out of fear of parting away from him.
We also witnessed Grandma’s dedication to learning to read and write despite her age because she wants to write his son, grandchildren Bom, and Ha Neul’s names.
Proving his sincere trust in Bom, Jae Hoon waited for her to call instead of jumping to conclusions after seeing her with another man.
Meanwhile, Ji Young’s unspoken feelings for Dae Bum have led her into thinking about her desire and not what Dae Bum wants.
Although that was out of concern and responsibility as Dae Bum’s only family, a huge part of her wishes for Dae Bum to stay by her side always. However, that is the main reason preventing him from making connections with other people.
But on the other hand, Dae Bum remains firm about how he wants to live his life. After all, he is a mature adult who can make his own decisions.
He is a man of few words, but when he talks, he expresses what he truly feels. He even admitted that when he is with Yeo Reum, he finds himself talking a lot. Personally, I love that scene where he compliments her – quite surprising, especially for a quiet person like him.
Although he is not directly saying that he likes her, I think he fairly proved his feelings for Yeo Reum several times through various actions.
So far, Yeo Reum has established a solid relationship with Dae Bum, though not yet official, things are looking bright for them. I hope nothing will spoil their newfound happiness.
