The Law Cafe Episode 10 Highlights
“Everything gets taken away from you in that moment when you least expect it.”
Yu-ri gets run over by a dashing car, and she recovers in the hospital. Jung-ho causes a scene at the police station, complaining about their inability to catch the culprit.
Looking for Jung-ho repeatedly, Yu-ri gets taken care of by her mother in the hospital.
Still angry with Yu-ri’s accident, Jung-ho angrily barges into President Lee’s place. He gets punched and beaten up, and his uncle reminds Jung-ho that he is his target, not Yu-ri.
Feeling the rain in the hospital, Jung-ho shows himself to Yu-ri, worrying about her wellbeing. He gets on his knees in front of Yu-ri’s mother apologizing for everything, but Yu-ri’s mom assures him that she and her daughter are strong.
Discharged from the hospital, Jung-ho convinces Yu-ri to stay at his place. However, his mother, Yeon-ju, surprises them in front of his place after running away from home when she felt betrayed by being clueless about the events happening with her father, husband, and son.
“Inheritance cases can sometimes end in bloodshed.”
Yeon-ju requests Woo-jin to prescribe sleeping pills while Joon feels amazed seeing an extremely rich person in the cafe. Talking alone together in his place, Jung-ho’s mom apologizes to him, crying that he is the only person she has.
A client named Hee-hyun consults Yu-ri about her concern on her inheritance from her sick father. She has taken care of her father for a long time and she is only left with land in their hometown. Explaining her rights, Yu-ri tells her client that she may still receive a minimal portion of shares despite her father’s will. Aware of how messy it could get, Jung-ho warns Yu-ri.
Overprotective of Yu-ri, Jung-ho’s behavior causes Eun-gang and Joon to complain about their disrupted work. Arguing about Yu-ri’s smelly hair, Yu-ri reminds Jung-ho that he is not yet forgiven. Leaving her place, he asks Se-yeon to look after her friend.
President Lee visits Chairman Lee in the hospital with white chrysanthemums usually used in funerals. Offending his father, Chairman Lee calls his own son a monster, but President Lee remains in a good mood after informing his father of the chances of being fired as chairman.
Chairman Lee comes to Jung-ho’s place, asking him to work at Dohan’s legal team as he is threatened to be fired as chairman as shown in the news. Though he is also ready to pass down his shares, Jung-ho remains unwilling to join the company.
“If sin is inherited, I’m sure the sense of guilt is also passed down.”
Comparing Jung-ho to his father who is alike in having no ambitions, Chairman Lee shares how Seung-woon asked him to take in Jung-ho and his mother. Thinking about what Chairman Lee said, Jung-ho reflects on his conversations with his father.
Hee-hyun officially asks Yu-ri to represent her as a lawyer. Her brothers storm into the cafe, and they all fight each other. Eun-gang steps up to stop them when Joon unsuccessfully threatens them on calling the police.
Invested in her life story, Hee-hyun tells how she’s taking legal measures to earn her rightful shares after helping her father during the IMF crisis and taking care of her mom for ten years.
Finding his mother, Jung-ho sees Yeon-ju with Yu-ri and the neighborhood ladies drunk. Yeon-ju, now close to Yu-ri, scolds Jung-ho for treating Yu-ri poorly.
Yu-ri opens up her concern to the ladies about seeing Jung-ho being one of Dohan group. Reacting to that, the ladies assure her there’s a difference between parents and children despite their shared genes.
“The resentment that’s been passed down to me and the sense of guilt you’ve inherited. Let’s get rid of them together.”
Taking home Yu-ri who is drunk, Jung-ho holds himself back when they were about to kiss.
In the morning, Yu-ri’s mother visits her and appreciates Jung-ho’s gesture of taking care of her daughter. Melting her daughter’s resentment, Yu-ri’s mother urges her daughter to forgive Jung-ho.
Hee-hyun sees her father dying on his deathbed. While she isn’t able to contact her brothers who are busy vacating their father’s house, Hee-hyun calls for Yu-ri.
Her brothers see the secret vault of their father, and Hee-hyun receives a piece of paper from her dying father.
Reflecting on her father’s legacy, Yu-ri decides to meet Jung-ho’s father and inform him how his son has been punishing himself since his father is not apologetic. She confronts Seung-woon who cannot be punished anyways since it isn’t illegal to hide evidence for your family’s sake.
Ready to deal with everything, Yu-ri and Jung-ho agree to get rid of their resentment and guilt together by making sure justice is served for all.
The Law Cafe Episode 10 Musings
Several times, President Lee has mentioned his mom and his father’s cold treatment of his own son. He is a pitiful character with his horrid experiences as a child out of wedlock, however, his actions that harm other people are not justifiable.
In this world, children cannot choose whose parents they are born to. Genetics and blood will always somehow influence a person, but just like what the ladies said, parents and their children can still be different.
Sins of the parents may be unforgivable, but judging their children based on what their parents did is irresponsible. In the end, children form their own individuality just like Jung-ho, and chances are they oppose their ill-motivated ancestors.
Yu-ri’s client, Hee-hyun, has also been troubled with her family’s conflict over the inheritance. Relationships can get so messy once money and assets are intertwined with familial ties.
This episode imparted a lot of lessons about family and forgiveness. Yu-ri realizes to use her father’s legacy for a more productive comeback, and this just indicates a change in direction of her and Jung-ho’s attack on unfair corporations such as Dohan group.
