The Uncanny Counter 2 Episodes 5 and 6 Highlights
In the court hearing of Ma Joo-Seok, he said that he regrets that he was not able to kill Mr. Park and he shows no remorse which surprises everyone, especially his mother and So-mun. Pil-gwang and Gelly find it amusing to see Joo-seok like that.
After the trial, So-mun rushes to see Joo-seok and convinces him that he still has a chance to turn things around but he refused to listen to So-mun.
“Min-ji is gone now. That means things can never be the same again.”
Unknown to them Pil-gwang and Gelly followed them and sneaked into the house to learn more about Joo-seok. Gelly is not convinced that Joo-seok will be a great help to them since he can’t even kill Mr. Park. Pil-gwang thinks otherwise and believes that if Joo-seok accepts the power, he’ll be a very special one.
At the Counters’ base, they are talking about the happenings in the trial and their worries when Jeok-bong arrives and happily welcomes himself back which made the Counters irritated with his ignorance of the situation. The next day, the evil spirit continues to encourage Joo-seok to get his revenge. Pil-gwang visits as well to provoke him not to suppress his powers.
Meanwhile, Ha-na meets his schoolmate Park Do-hwi. When he touches Ha-na’s wrist when she is about to leave, she was able to see memories of him. She saw that Do-hwi was taking care of her when she was in a coma. He was shocked to find out one day that she left the hospital and lost contact with her.
Back at their headquarters, the Counters properly welcome Jeok-bong before they head out to follow the familiar foul smell that Jeok-bong senses. It turns out, Pil-gwang and Gelly have been using Baekdu Planning and Construction to scam people, and their money is kept in cold storage guarded by thugs. But the gang they hired tries to double-cross her and Gelly can’t let that happen.
The Counters found the hideout and see Gelly. Unfortunately, she was able to escape right away and even noticed Jeok-bong’s power. Gelly is stressed out and tells Pil-gwang that Jeok-bong can smell them. Pil-gwang finds it funny and entertaining. He calms down Gelly. Inside the prison, Joo-seok continues to struggle against the evil spirit.
“If Ma joo-seok accepts the power, he’ll be a very special one.”
The next day, Motak re-opens, the laundering case. Hana goes out to meet Do-hwi for dinner. She was late and they had to wait outside the restaurant. While waiting, Ha-na notices Ung-min passing by and she rushes Do-whi to leave the restaurant.
Ung-min calls So-mun to tell him that he saw Hana with some guy. Jeok-bong was in shock hearing this because he has a crush on Ha-na. Meanwhile, the two friends end up going to an arcade and playing the claw machine.
Ha-na fails miserably but was able to get some toys when Do-whi helped her so she was very happy. Mae-ok and Jeok-bong witness it. While Jeok-bong is sad that Ha-na is with some other guy, Mae-ok was so happy to see Ha-na genuinely smile.
At the police station, Motak found something that leads to a laundromat. He brings So-mun with him. They went inside and saw the set-up of money laundering but were surprised when the computer starts deleting all the files.
Then a man rushes to get out of the store. They chased him but he escaped and So-mun is only left with a rose tattoo that he saw as a clue. Pil-gwang and Gelly break into the prison and try to provoke Joo-seok once again to let the evil spirit out and this time he succeeds. Joo-seok gives in to his weaknesses and finally accepts the evil spirit.
The next morning, So-mun went to the prison to bring Joo-seok his supplies. That day, Joo-seok decided to escape from prison. So-mun was about to leave the prison when he heard the prison alarm break off and he saw Joo-seok jump out of the prison wall.
So-mun realized that Joo-seok is possessed by an evil spirit and the evil spirit tells Joo-seok that he needs to kill So-mun or else he will be a hindrance to get his revenge. Joo-seok tells So-mun to just let him be and he shows his power and barricades So-mun against the wall. The prison guards arrive and So-mun uses his power to stop the guards from hurting Joo-seok. and the latter took this chance to escape.
Joo-seok was able to go home unnoticed. His mom tells him to surrender. He then asks her mom to make some food for him, then he leaves without saying goodbye. At the gate, he was cornered by the police officers, but he uses his power against the police officers.
He lifted them up in the air and tries to point their guns in their own heads. Joo-seok tries to control himself and stop killing them by dropping them and walking away. Unfortunately, his mother sees all this, follows him, and tries to stop him. So-mun and Hana arrive and saw Joo-seok’s mother.
“I will save him no matter what.”
Hana senses Joo-seok and was surprised to see that Joo-seok can communicate with her through the territory. She told him that his mother has collapsed but he did not bother to stop and told Hana that this is his final warning and to stop getting in his way. He says he will atone for his sins with his life.
The Counters are having a meeting in the Spirit Immigration Office. The spirits say that Joo-seok’s blind rage attracted the evil spirit. They warn the Counters that Joo-seok is more powerful than other evil spirits. He seems unpredictable too that’s why they need to be careful. He might be more powerful if he kills someone and becomes a completely evil spirit.
So, they must stop him from committing murder. Joo-seok watches the hospital from afar when Gelly appears and begins provoking him. Gelly says something against his family and Joo-seok did not think twice to grab and choke her. Joo-seok warns her not to insult his family or else he will kill her, then he walks away. Pil-gwang appears and realizes that Joo-seok can see the territory and can avoid them if he wants to.
The next day, at the police station, Mo-tak learns that the prison guards don’t remember anything about how Joo-seok escaped. Also, all the CCTV footage from a week prior to his escape was erased. Mo-tak thinks of something and asks for the exact date. On their way to the hospital, Jeok-bong tells So-mun that he smells something familiar.
Mo-tak and the rest of the Counters figure out that it was Pil-gwang who deleted the CCTV footage in prison and he is also the one who visited Joo-seok before his trial. Jeok-bong confirms that he smells the bad spirits in the hospital and So-mun informs the others.
“I should be there too. I don’t like being just a spectator.”
Pil-gwang and Gelly show up in the hospital to kill Joo-seok’s mother. He believes Joo-seok will resent himself because of this which will add up to his anger and rage. But they saw the territory and needs to leave immediately because the Counters arrives.
The Counters heads towards the operating room and Mae-ok revives Joo-seok’s mother with her powers. Mo-tak is in prison and notices one of the inmates also has a rose tattoo with the number 28.
Back at the police station, Mo-tak learns that the men with tattoos are Chung-jae’s men. The tattoo is the RRG symbol, Red Roses Gang. Mae-ok and Hana go undercover and visit the tattoo studio and fortunately, they come across the man that was in the laundromat.
Hana gets the details they need and learns that Lee Chung-jae, one of the suspects in the laundering case is still alive. Mae-ok seems distracted because she remembers the name Lim Jae-youl as the first person she saved. Gelly and Pil-gwang are also looking for Chung-jae now, to get their money.
“I begged you. I begged you to stop. I begged and begged. But now, you’ve left me with no choice.”
Jeok-bong is guarding the treatment facility where Mr. Park is when he smells the familiar scent of Gelly. Sadly, the evil duo has already taken away Mr. Park Seung-uk and informs Joo-seok through the territory. Ha-na senses this too and informs the other Counters.
They rush to save Joo-seok from this trap. Unfortunately, they arrive late as Joo-seok already saw the memory of Mr. Park killing Min-ji. So-mun and Ha-na try to stop Joo-seok from committing murder and tell him who truly killed Min-ji. But Joo-seok doesn’t want to listen to them and kills Mr. Park.
Then, he uses his power to push away So-mun and Ha-na, resulting in Hana getting hurt. Joo-seok consumes the soul of Mr. Park and the evil spirit becomes stronger. So-mun is now also angry and tells Joo-seok that he left him with no choice.
The Uncanny Counter 2 Episodes 5 and 6 Musings
Midway through the series, The Uncanny Counter 2 is bringing intensity to a different level. With that kind of cliffhanger ending, we can expect more drama next week and an extreme face-off battle between So-mun and Joo-seok.
It has finally come to this. Previous episodes were preparing viewers for this expected confrontation. We can say, that the real villain in this season has arrived and he is really a force to reckon with.
For now, we have no idea how our beloved Counters will deal with this scenario. We can only hope that they will grow stronger too. And please, Jeok-bong, show us what you’ve got! We need to see your real powers besides sniffing around. Seriously, let’s hope Jeok-bong will surprise us with his “real” powers.
Still six episodes left, and the series continues to rope us into its exciting narrative. We can’t rule out the faint hope that Ma Joo-seok will be saved. Of course, the showdown with Pil-gwang and Gelly is worth anticipating solidifying the balanced character development from the heroes’ and villains’ camps.
