The Uncanny Counter 2 Episodes 7 and 8 Highlights

Picking up from the previous episode, So Mun is furious at Joo-seok for killing Mr. Park and consuming his soul. So-mun fights Joo-seok while Pil-gwang and Gelly are having fun watching them fight.

Then Gelly, notices that Ha-na is injured and she goes to her to get revenge. So-mun was about to summon the evil spirit in Joo-seok but Pil-gwang distracted him and took away Joo-seok. Gelly is about to kill Ha-na when all the other Counters arrive and save her.

“Those wounds. He may have been different from the other evil spirits but I doubt you’re weaker than him. Did you let up because it was him? Don’t ever hesitate again. He is an evil spirit. So, we must summon him at all costs.”

Meanwhile, Pil-gwang brings Joo-seok to his place and is able to talk to the evil spirit inside Joo-seok’s body. It tells him that Joo-seok has so much willpower that it can’t fully control him.

They need to provoke him more. When Joo-seok regains consciousness, Pil-gwang tells him that he just wants to help him get his revenge and that he should look for President Lee Chung-jae of Baekdu.

“He was a good man. I’ve always believed my job was saving good people from these evil spirits. However, if even good people can become evil spirits, then who are we actually saving?”

The next day, Gelly visits Wong in prison only to kill him. Then, Pil-gwang sees her but she treats him coldly because she thinks that Pil-gwang will abandon her too like what he did to Wong. Mo-tak asks Jeok-bong for help in identifying scammers that can lead them to President Lee Chung-jae. He tells the Counters to go with him and capture them.

On the other hand, Do-hwi is talking to his student to continue taking piano lessons and join a competition. But the student refuses and tells him that she and her mother will go to a fair. The fair is where the scammers gather the people in the area, forcing them to sell or evacuate their land for development.

Soon, the Counters were able to break into the meeting and capture the scammers. Do-hwi also gets to bring the police because of her concern for his student. Do-hwi is surprised to see Ha-na there. The Counters are so excited to invite him to eat with them. They got him drunk and let Ha-na take care of him. Unknown to Ha-na, Gelly is watching them from afar.

Mae-ok decides to visit, Lim Jae-youl, the first person she ever saved. She treats him to a meal and drops him home. Lee Chung-jae sent a man to kill Jae-youl but Mae-ok and Mo-tak save him. The man’s phone rings and it is one of Lee Chung-jae’s men, checking if he’s done with Jae-youl.

Upon hearing that Chung-jae plays golf, they try to look for him in golf clubs in the area. Meanwhile, Joo-seok is already on the hunt to search for Lee Chung-jae and he finds one of his accomplices.

Ha-na meets with Do-hwi and decides to end things with him. She walks away and suddenly; Gelly shows up and makes Do-hwi her hostage. Then, Ha-na battles Gelly to save him. When Gelly is about to hurt Ha-na, Do-hwi jumps in and saves her so she stabs him. Ha-na gets the upper hand and begins attacking Gelly.

“It was a short time, but I was extremely happy thanks to you.”

Unfortunately, Pil-gwang appears and holds her up in the air. Pil-gwang also grabs Gelly by the throat and throws them both to the ground. Ha-na uses her last burst of strength to throw off Pil-gwang and escapes with Do-hwi.

Then, the Counters find them in the street and Mae-ok does her best to save Do-hwi. When Do-whi wakes up, he says his memory is vague but he remembers Ha-na being in danger. Ha-na tells him that he saved her from a minor accident.

She says thank you to Do-hwi and everything will be better after he takes a nap. Then she erases every memory of her in his mind to protect him. It is a very hard decision for her as she cries while doing it.

Meanwhile, Gelly thinks about the memories she gained from Ha-na while grabbing her during their fight. She saw that, Ha-na gained her power from waking up in a coma. And she wants to sort out, how it happened.

Little did she know, Ha-na also happens to know Gelly and Pil-gwang’s place. She sees a hotel which could be anywhere around them. So-mun and Jeok-bong search around the hotels to find Pil-gwang while Mo-tak looks for Lee Chung-jae.

“Life isn’t all that unfair. There are more good people than bad ones.”

Mae-ok heads out to visit Jae-youl. She tries to talk some sense to him but she passes out after drinking some juice that he gave her. When she wakes up, she is surrounded by some thugs. They ask her to bring Mo-tak there and give her a cell phone to contact him. Shortly, Mo-tak arrives and deals with the thugs immediately.

Mo-tak and Mae-ok bring one of Chung-jae’s thugs with them to locate him. But unfortunately, Joo-seok found Chung-jae first. He starts beating Chung-jae when the Counters appear and Mo-tak points a gun to Joo-seok.

Mo-tak goes one-on-one with Joo-seok giving a chance for Mae-ok to bring Chung-jae into a golf cart to escape. But Joo-seok is stronger than Mo-tak and he catches up with Chung-jae. Then, So-mun arrives and Joo-seok decides to escape.

Joo-seok returns to Pil-gwang and asks him how can he get rid of the Counters. Pil-gwang asks Joo-seok if he really has the guts to kill the Counters. Joo-seok tells him that he has no choice now and must see through his revenge.

The next day, Jeok-bong is resolved to find the evil spirits and goes out alone in the hotel district. When he finally finds a familiar smell, he alerts the Counters. It is Joo-seok and he heads up to the 123rd floor.

The Counters arrive in the hotel lobby, Jeok-bong tells them that he can no longer smell Joo-seok even Pil-gwang. As they go up to the top floor, Jeok-bong smells Joo-seok again and this time he smells Pil-gwang too.

So-mun realizes that Jeok-bong can only smell within a limited distance and height. When they finally reach the top floor, Mo-tak tells So-mun to summon the territory first. But So-mun fails. He can’t see the territory.

Wi-gen informs So-mun that he can’t see the territory because it can’t reach that high. If there is no territory, they won’t be able to catch the evil spirits so they must leave the hotel immediately or they will be in danger.

Then, Joo-seok and Pil-gwang both appear and corner the Counters on each side. It is clearly a trap. So-mun faces Joo-seok and the other Counters take on Pil-gwang. The fights happen concurrently.

The Counters eventually get to hold both of them down but Gelly makes a surprise appearance and grabs So-mun. She reads So-mun’s memories and sees that he too, has a moment of rebirth like Ha-na.

Gelly decides to erase So-mun’s memories from his rebirth. Removing the memory of his powers making him go back to being in a coma. Pil-gwang who wants So-mun’s power badly gets angry at Gelly while the latter laughs like a madwoman.

The Uncanny Counter 2 Episodes 7 and 8 Musings

It’s really hard to be a Counter. The responsibility often tests life’s purpose.

We see that no matter how hard they try, they cannot protect everyone, even the ones they truly care about.

Sadly, most of the time, they have to give up things for the greater good. They always have to put the best interest of others, before theirs.

Let’s hope that all these hardships will make them better and stronger.

Meanwhile, dragging Jeok-bong’s real power is starting to draw disappointment. We could see the save-the-best-for-last intention, clearly. But waiting to see his full potential as a Counter needs to happen soon. We are only left with four episodes and still, there is no significant improvement to his character.

Episode 8 again ended with an intense cliffhanger in true blue The Uncanny Counter fashion. And we have to wait a few more days to know how the narrative will pan out.

How will So-mun come back from his coma? How will Pil-gwang deal with Gelly. Did Joo-seok finally realize who is his true opponents?

Who else can’t wait for the Counters to finish off the evil spirits, especially Pil-gwang?
