True Beauty Episode 7 Key Moments

“Why is he good-looking even when he’s sleeping. He’s making my heart flutter.”

Rounding up the usual suspects, Ju-kyung and friends confess that Seo-jun’s minion don’t have anything to do with the ruckus they created at the karaoke house. Reprimanded to do pages of apology letter, they part ways. Spotting Su-ho at the bus stop, Ju-kyung reckons how he held her hand when she kept clutching her hand remembering the trauma she got from the bullies’ leader.

She calls his attention and asks if he wants to read the new release of a comic book they both like, but he declines. About to leave he tells Ju-kyung that they will go to the study hall instead the next day.

Finding Su-ho the next day at the study hall, Ju-kyung stares at him as she sleeps and wonders how he is beautiful making her heart flutter. After studying, they go home, but the bullies’ leader stops Ju-kyung and Su-jin from their tracks to apologize.

It turns out that sleep-deprived Su-ho has been hunting him everywhere to demand him to apologize to Ju-kyung. Tired of being literally haunted by Su-ho, the bully surrendered.

“If I got your grades, my family would worship me.”

Su-jin and Ju-kyung see a few college students at a convenience store enjoying some booze. They agree to be brave and drink but the convenience store seller saw through their lies.

Listening to Su-jin’s reveal of how she washes her hand when she gets stressed because of her grades, Ju-kyung wonders why her situation is like that when her family would worship her if she has her grades.

She thanks Su-jin for trusting her with her secret and confessed also how she was an outcast in her previous school.

“You following me to the stadium was weird enough. But then, you let Ju-kyung have all the drumsticks. That’s true love you see!”

Soo-Ah and Ju-kyung watch the baseball game again. But their happy cheering gets interrupted by Tae-hoon and Su-ho. After the game, Soo-Ah waits for the star baseball player Ryu Hyung-jin (cameo by Jung Gun Joo) who was actually attracted to Ju-kyung since he saw her at the last match.

Obliging to give her number, Su-ho chides on her reckless action of giving out her number to a stranger. Tae-hoon follows Su-ho at a batting range where he is letting off his steam. Confirming he likes Ju-kyung, Tae-hoon parades evidences of his unexpressed adoration from giving all the drumsticks to Ju-kyung and getting jealous to Hyung-jin.

Curious why he has not confessed yet, he warns her that someone might snatch Ju-kyung and hiding feelings is not the trend anymore. Unknown to them, Soo-ah already made an arrangement for Hyung-jin to walk Ju-kyung home. Suavely confessing Ju-kyung has struck three times onto his heart, he tells her the odds of having the person he likes, likes him back is like the chance of having a perfect baseball match.

Keen to win Ju-kyung’s heart, Hyung-jin even visits Ju-kyung at school to hand his lucky baseball so she can go to his game. Coolly declaring he will ask a question once they win. Seo-jun interrupts the moment and declares him being Ju-kyung’s ex, but Hyung-jin ignores and escapes when the teacher entered the room.

Chasing after Hyung-jin to return the ball, Ju-kyung spots Su-ho who is also being confessed to. But he bluntly tells the girl that he likes someone.

“You don’t know what I had to go through at my old school.”

Sneaking silently to their house, Ju-kyung was helped by her father go to her room without her mom noticing her. But when she finds her make-up babies missing, she confronts her mom who can’t seem to be content with Ju-kyung’s effort in studying and getting 20 ranks higher.

Unable to explain to her parents the confidence and new life her make-up immersion brought in, she leaves the house while crying, but bumps onto Su-ho. The latter was about to start winning Ju-kyung’s heart through Tae-hoon’s tips. Seeing her weeping, he feeds and accompanies her until her emotions subside at the comic book shop.

He walks her home and just when Ju-kyung is about to enter their house, he corners her to the gate. Inching closer, Ju-kyung closes her eyes instinctively and felt something slips on her hair. Gifting her with a pretty hair clip, Su-ho says good night and walks away.

“To be honest, I came here because I like Ju-kyung. Am I  not allowed to like her?

Wearing the clip Su-ho gave, Ju-kyung marches to the review center happily. She sees Su-ho and follows to where he is going. Knowing Su-jin is under stress because of her grades, he realized she was beaten again by her dad. Pouring out her fury to him, she begs him to move a different school and weeps. She moves closer to Su-ho to seek warmth from his embrace.

From afar, Ju-kyung sees what happened and runs away. Thinking Su-ho meant Su-jin to be the girl he liked, she removes the clip and process what situation she’s in.

Forced to join Seo-jun to shop for Go-woon’s birthday gift, Su-ho follows them at the department store when he learned she is with Seo-jun. They unfortunately get trapped in an elevator just as Ju-kyung badly needs to pee. Relieving herself, she goes out of the mall and sees the snow falling. Just as Seo-jun and Su-ho approach to cover her, Hyung-jin steps in with his umbrella.

At Hyung-jin’s final game, Su-ho bumps with Seo-jun at the stadium. Both are not aware that Ju-kyung is not there and she already rejected Hyung-jin. Feigning he just went to the game to watch and not because of Ju-kyung, the two sit side by side to watch.

When they heard someone is scouting Hyung-jin to be in the major league, the two disregard their cold war and cheer for Hyung-jin to win so he can go out of the country.

After the game, Su-ho checks Seo-jun’s intention is just to watch the game. They walk to the opposite side, but Seo-jun can’t hide his feelings anymore. He confesses to Su-ho that he also likes Ju-kyung.

True Beauty Episode 7 Musings

Looks like Seo-jun won’t be backing out anymore and is keen to win Ju-kyung’s heart. Usually, the middle point of a series transitions the story to a heightened moment where conflict takes the direction moving. That is in contrast to the first half – where all the ingredients like characters’ motivations and angst are revealed.

While Su-ho is still at an advantage owing to him knowing Ju-kyung’s secret and Ju-kyung liking him without his knowledge; I can’t dismiss the fact that it might follow the webtoon storyline. If it does, I don’t know how they would squeeze in the true love realization for Ju-kyung. I hope it won’t and just go over to the direction of mutual like and the bromance between Seo-jun and Su-ho resuming to its original state.

Again, I am totally in love with Hee-kyung and Teacher Han’s scenes in the series. If only Ju-kyung has the same confidence and focus like Hee-kyung to ask the right questions.

Nicely-blended Youth Series

Admittedly, True Beauty takes the usual elements of youth drama like school bullying and family pressure to obtain high grades. But, I am enjoying it because those are not taking over the storyline. It has been funneled to capitalize on the series winning spots such as friendship and young love. Additionally it has been raising awareness to parents about problems their children might be struggling to open up.

I particularly liked that scene when Ju-kyung thanked Su-jin for trusting her secret to her. Su-jin has been keeping her sanity up against the pressure of her father to over-achieve. But she knows that bottling it up won’t do her good. The same way that she is aware that her incessant washing of hands when under pressure needs to be taken care of.

Will Su-ho beat the time to confess his feelings so Ju-kyung won’t wallow in her misunderstanding of who Su-ho really likes? Or will the odds favor Seo-jun?

Let’s find out in the 8th episode of True Beauty!
