Would You Marry Me Episodes 5 and 6 Highlights

“Separating work from life is very important when dealing with business partners.”

The risk of getting caught hikes for our fake couple when Sang-hyeon visits the bakery company as the department store representative for a business partnership. Woo-ju tries his best to hide from Sang-hyeon, but they end up coming across each other, where Woo-ju pretends it is their first time meeting. Luckily, Sang-hyeon plays along, resolving to keep his personal life and work separate.

Things turn suspicious, though, when Me-ri drops by for a meeting and runs into Sang-hyeon and Woo-ju. As usual, our fake couple tries to lie their way out, but Sang-hyeon isn’t buying it anymore, and as things stand, it won’t take long for him to figure out everything.

On a lighter note, Woo-ju finds out he is Me-ri’s first love, and the big grin on his face is very telling. Me-ri is oblivious of everything, though, proudly claiming that she would recognize her first love instantly were she to meet him. He is right in front of you, Sis.

“Did you meet your first love or something?”

Meanwhile, Jin-gyeong plans to confess to Woo-ju over dinner. But it goes awry when he mentions meeting his first love, and that she is Me-ri. On the day of his parents’ death, Woo-ju bumped into Me-ri and her father on the road. They reported the car accident and drove him to the police station.

Grateful for their help that day, Woo-ju dropped by Me-ri’s family’s house to thank them. But apparently, Me-ri’s father died two weeks later while on his way to give another statement. (That sounds fishy.) And poor Woo-ju left without a word, scared Me-ri would resent and blame him for her father’s death. Which is also part of the reason he didn’t tell Me-ri about their connection. Hearing that story, Jin-gyeong advises Woo-ju against telling Me-ri the truth, claiming it would be better to keep her in the dark, but actually, she is jealous.

“Even my family doesn’t care about my birthday.”

The day of Woo-ju’s parents’ death anniversary arrives, and the mood turns gloomy. That day also marks Woo-ju’s birthday, but the poor guy never got to celebrate his birthday since the accident. Between a grandmother telling him to do his duties and marry well and live for his late father, and an aunt who gossips about him being the reason his parents died, it is no wonder Woo-ju looks suffocated.

The poor guy lived in guilt, blaming himself for his parents’ death because his father had turned around to talk to him, wholly oblivious that the whole thing was staged by his sinister uncle-in-law (Kim Young-min), who also probably got Me-ri’s father killed to cover his tracks.

This year is different, though, as Me-ri learns it is Woo-ju’s birthday and cooks a feast for him. Woo-ju opens up about not celebrating his birthday as his parents died on the same day without revealing the rest of the details. And Me-ri gently comforts him, then they go outside to watch a double rainbow and make a wish. Me-ri wishes things would go well with the house, and Woo-ju hopes her wishes would come true.

“I would rather get caught than team up with Woo-ju.”

Unfortunately, their excitement is cut short when our fake couple spot the ex-fiancé wandering around the house. He went to the apartment complex on an errand and got a brief glimpse of Me-ri. But fortunately, he assumed it was someone who resembled her.

Visiting Me-ri’s studio, the ex-fiancé claims he broke up with the affair partner because he isn’t over her and asks to get back together. Me-ri flat-out rejects him. She is done being with someone who only wants her when he needs something. And she is going to be with someone who stays by her side when she is suffering. (Side note: As it turns out, the affair partner had a fiancé. And when asked to choose one of the men, the affair partner opted to marry her fiancé.)

According to Woo-ju, they need to team up with the ex-fiancé to keep the house. But Me-ri would rather get caught than have him threaten her. Still, she is the one who is more desperate for the money. So, Woo-ju urges her to approach this matter rationally. But even after thinking it through, Me-ri can’t bring herself to work together with the ex-fiancé. Luckily, he knows nothing about the raffle, so our fake couple might as well go through with their plan and sell the house without him being the wiser. And of course, this is where things start to go wrong.

“I don’t need you or your apology anymore.”

Spotting Woo-ju and Me-ri together, the ex-fiancé follows them to the townhouse. Having confirmed that Me-ri lives in that fancy house, all sorts of ridiculous scenarios go through his mind, from Me-ri working as a housekeeper to the house being Woo-ju’s. That shameless guy has the nerve to claim that Me-ri is cheating on him. But our girl holds her own. What he did was cheating, but who she sees now is none of his business.

Barging into the house, the ex-fiancé keeps blurting his nonsense. And while trying to kick him out, Me-ri turns off the lights so he won’t see the fake wedding photos. As a result, the ex-fiancé slips and falls, thus breaking his wrist. But this also means Me-ri gets roped into acting as his guardian. And sure enough, he jumps at the opportunity to have Me-ri around and makes all sorts of absurd demands.

As luck would have it, Woo-ju drops by the hospital and spots the ex-fiancé leaning on Me-ri under the pretext of helping him return to his room. So, Woo-ju steps in and places the ex-fiancé’s arm on his shoulder instead. It is palpable that he is mad to see Me-ri with the ex-fiancé. Not that she likes it either. And when asked about the reason, Woo-ju tells Me-ri it is because he likes her that he hates seeing her with other guys. But before we could get Me-ri’s response, this week ends, leaving us with bated breath until next week.

Would You Marry Me Episodes 5 and 6 Musings

We have a confession here, and it is as swoony as it gets. But we hope Woo-ju tells Me-ri the truth soon, so it won’t complicate things between them after they start dating. The situation is dreadful for both sides, but Woo-ju is another victim, and it is all on the sinister uncle-in-law.

Speaking of whom, we learn Sinister Uncle has another family in the States, and the woman he is having an affair with is also his accomplice in the embezzlement. For now, he plays the supportive uncle, but he is just biding his time to get rid of Woo-ju and take over the bakery.

Lastly, we got a little progress between Sang-hyeon and Jin-gyeong as he saves her from a sleazy guy who was filming her illegally. He covers her with his jacket, confronts the guy, and deletes the photos, getting her touched. The way Jin-gyeong gives Sang-hyeon her favorite snack as a thank-you gift suggests she isn’t indifferent to him. If only she would get over her crush on Woo-ju and focus on the other guy before her. Also, can’t Sang-hyeon get less gruffy? Then again, perhaps that is part of his charm.
