Unlock My Boss Quick Plot Recap
As the founder and CEO of one of the nation’s leading IT firms, Kim Seon-Joo (Park Sung Woong) is well-known in the technological field. But life at the top comes with its own obstacles, and others would stop at nothing to pull him down.
On his way to his daughter’s birthday, Seon-Joo got tangled in a strange incident. He mysteriously got trapped in his smartphone with no recollection of his accident.
Meanwhile, Park In-Seong (Chae Jong Hyeop) is a hardworking young man from a low-income household. After finishing his degree, he has been actively searching for a job but has had little luck finding one.
While up in the mountains, he accidentally discovers the lost smartphone. Grabbing the opportunity, Seon-Joo tries very hard to persuade In-Seong to help him in exchange for the large sum of money he’s offering as payment.
Taking on the role of temporary CEO, In-Seong steps into Seon-Joo’s shoes at the company with the help of Seon-Joo’s secretary, Jung Se-Yeon (Seo Eun Soo). It is now up to the three to keep the company running and figure out the person behind Seon-Joo’s disappearance.
Unlock My Boss Series Highlights
Illustrates The Sad Reality Of Everyday Life
Aside from solving the disappearance of a well-known CEO, Unlock My Boss also touched on relevant daily issues that people face. Several scenes from the first few episodes depict the unfortunate reality of rising living costs and the challenge of securing employment in a highly competitive corporate world.
On the other hand, Jung Se-Yeon convincingly portrayed an employed person weighed down by an excessive load of responsibilities. This causes her a great deal of stress and helps to explain her lack of concern to others because she’s preoccupied with her own problems.
One scene where she sobs and begs her mother to wake up because she can’t handle worrying about the hospital bills and who will take care of her is really heartbreaking to watch.
Unlock My Boss Series Musings
This drama is like a breath of fresh air with its unique and intriguing plot. Admittedly, it’s hard to take seriously the idea of someone getting stuck in a smartphone. But despite its slow start, it turns out to be quite good. The show says a lot about how pervasive technology has become and how dependent people are on it. However, they clarified that it is not meant to replace people and social connections.
The ending is quite underwhelming, but it is nice that it ended lightheartedly. Though viewers can feel generally happy, it would have been better if there was a resolution at the finale.
It is unclear when Seon-Joo will reawaken or who will take over the company now that In-Seong has stepped down. We also don’t know how Se-Yeon’s professional life develops or if they remain in touch with Min-Ah afterward.
Contrarily, I like how In-Seong ultimately found a way back to his aspirations and pursued his dream of becoming an actor. At the same time, Se-Yeon’s mother is still in a coma, but she is cared for by trustworthy people.
With only 12 episodes, it is understandable that the plot moves quickly. Each episode leaves you wondering who’s the real enemy and how clues will eventually fit together. This was accomplished, surprisingly, without stretching the plot, with just enough romance to balance the heavy scenes.
