Lee Jae Wook And Jung So Min Exchange Deep Gazes In “Alchemy Of Souls”

Dream Collaboration of Director Park and Hong Sisters

Aside from its stellar cast, Alchemy of Souls boasts a director-writer tandem that produced well-loved and hit series. The combined portfolio of PD Park and Hong sisters includes What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim, Because This Is My First Life, Hotel Del Luna, The Master’s Sun and more.

Lauding Hong Jung Eun and Hong Mi Ran, Director Park communicated how elaborate the narrative is and how each character develops in the story.

Challenging a unique story, the director was reassured by the Hong Sisters. He said, “The script written by Hong sisters is great. I think any director would do well.”

Conveying his thoughts for his first historical series, he confessed that he also worried. He expounds on how he focused on the uniqueness of the narrative.

“I was worried about how to express it because it is not even in history. In a way, if you show a familiar yet unfamiliar side, I think the viewers will be able to imagine it. It’s a bit inconsistent, but that seems to be the point that I can get used to.”

The Lead Pair Raves On Amazing Script

Both Jung So Min and Lee Jae Wook gush about the superb script.

Lee initially worries if he can pull off his character but Director Park cheered his spirit up.

“When I first received the script, I thought it was so fresh and fun. I was wondering if I could execute it. At the first meeting, Director Park empowered me when I told him I don’t think I can do well.”

Likewise, Jung also responds that the script made a strong impact on her decision.

“The script had the biggest impact. The script was interesting. The Hong Sisters script exceeded expectations. It was so much fun.”

Notably, Alchemy of Souls is a reunion project for Jung and PD Park. The director delineates his admiration for the female lead of his new work.

“Her appearance is lovely and attractive. She has natural acting and a look that I love so much. She has that distinct expression that only she has. She expresses the emotional details of a moment with various emotions. It clearly shows the situation of the work without explanation. That’s her charm.”

Yoo Jun Sang’s Small Screen Return

Interestingly, the male leads of Alchemy of Souls had seemingly put their trust on PD Park.

Returning to the small screen since The Uncanny Counter, Yoo Jun Sang remarked hesitating at first. But after talking with the director, he decided to appear.

Yoo also praises the director for his effort in filming.

“Director Park Jun-hwa is a delicate, romantic person, but he puts a lot of effort into filming by expressing his intentions accurately and involving the staff. Thanks to him, I enjoyed filming.”

Additionally, he also conveys receiving energy from his young fellow co-stars.

“There were happy moments thanks to Oh Nara. Looking back, you can say that it is a heartwarming, beautiful, lyrical, and surprising piece of work the whole time you watch it.”

New Acting Challenges For The Young Cast Members

Venturing into acting, Hwang Min Hyun felt honored to be a part of the series.

“There is no big difference in starting anew as actor Hwang Min-hyun (not NU’EST). I’m still the same person. It is an honor to participate in Alchemy of Souls. At the same time, there was pressure, but I am trying to show a better and more mature image.”

Speaking about his role immersion, Hwang admitted how concerns and worries are inevitable when trying something new.

“It was nice to be able to work with director Park Jun-hwa and Hong Sisters, whom I really like and respect. It was hard. It is a new genre of fantasy romance action drama. There are always concerns and worries about something new. This is my first time acting. Nevertheless, I focused on acting.”

In addition, Oh My Girl member Arin confessed how concerned she was about her drama debut. Thankfully, she met wonderful seniors who helped her enjoy filming.

Regarding her preparation, she remarked working hard to bring to life her character.

“I paid the most attention to character analysis. I worked hard to become the character of Jin Cho-yeon.”

Echoing the pleasant experience mentioned by Arin, Yoo In Soo who gained attention as the villain from Netflix’s All Of Us Are Dead also felt happy working with amazing actors.

This time, Yoo is set to play a bright character that synchronizes well with fellow actors.

Vouching for a scintillating story, Jung So Min and Lee Jae Wook hint at the amazing onscreen chemistry that viewers should look forward to.
