In the series, Jung Sung Il plays the role of Ha Do-young, who encounters Pandora’s box through his wife, Park Yeon-jin (Im Ji Yeon), owing to Moon Dong-eun’s (Song Hye Kyo) elaborate revenge.
Regarding his preparation for the role, Jung mentioned the complexity of his character.
“I really worried a lot when I was acting. I think I acted closer to the ‘nice’ side. I think it was the part where the opposite image could be revealed most clearly depending on which point of view you look at.”
Relaying his thoughts about his chemistry with Moon Dong-eun, the actor deems that from Do-young’s point of view, it can’t be called love. But to a certain extent in how Do-young lives; the feeling of being curious, excited, and overwhelmed is probably love.
Through The Glory, Ha Do-young’s character was strongly imprinted on the public paving the way for Jung Sung Il to reach more people.
Debuted in the film H in 2002, Jung Sung Il has been steadily active on the theater stage and has expanded his range of activities to dramas such as Stranger 2, Birthcare Center, Bad and Crazy and Our Blues.
Last year, he also contributed by making friendship appearances in the films Take Care of My Mom and Project Wolf Hunt Hunting. Even now, he is busy going back and forth on stage, performing together in the musical Mio Fratello and the play Beautiful Sunday.
Grateful For The Glory
When asked about what changed after The Glory, the actor modestly shared that nothing changed. He continues to perform in plays and musicals and occasionally does photo shoots. But he acknowledged people recognize him.
“I am getting a lot of undeserved love. People around me recognize me a lot. Even when I wear a hat and mask, they recognize me. My child is 7 years old, and the kindergarten teacher asked for his autograph. My family and people around me like it a lot. My wife sometimes calls me Ha Do-young.”
He also adds that people who recognized him would mention Ha Do-young or Yeon-jin’s husband. With that, he appreciates the opportunity.
“It’s awkward and embarrassing, and these days I have mixed feelings like that,” he said.
Lastly, he remarks about the future character he wants to challenge after such a memorable role in The Glory.
“Ha Do-young’s character is very clear and strong, but I don’t necessarily think that I have to surpass Ha Do-young through other works. Even if they are similar, if there is a different color, I want to approach it. I want to show a different side of me whether it’s the main character or a supporting character.”
Meanwhile, the Netflix series The Glory depicts the story of a woman whose soul was shattered by violence in her childhood and the desperate revenge she has prepared meticulously throughout her life. Part 1 was released on December 30 last year, and Part 2 was released on March 10.
