Little Women Opening Week Story
Living with her two sisters, Oh In-joo (Kim Go Eun) only wishes to buy an apartment with windows to share with her cherished sisters. At work, she’s an outcast compared with colleagues who boast great family and educational backgrounds.
Meanwhile, her sister In-kyung (Nam Ji Hyun), a reporter also struggles at work with the competition. Fortunately, she’s scooped an interesting story, but the target of her story is a popular lawyer from a prominent family. When she dauntlessly questioned him about an intriguing case, it backfires right away when the sharp lawyer sensed she was intoxicated with alcohol.
That caused her a month-long suspension. While being suspended, she works to get money from their rich aunt by having breakfast with her. The money she needed to raise together with In-joo is for their youngest sister’s birthday gift.
Initially, they had it prepared. But their irresponsible mother took it and go overseas to visit their father with whom they’d been estranged out of all the troubles he caused the family.
Not liking the idea of her older sisters worrying about her, In-hye feels nonchalant about what happened. She relents to her mom’s reason in the letter she left behind.
Hwa-young’s Death
In-joo’s only friend is Hwa-young who is also an outcast and has been branded to be having an affair with Director Shin, the office’s assigned leader. She also lent In-ju’s needed money for In-hye’s school trip.
In return, In-joo agrees to feed Hwa-young’s pet fishes in her apartment since she will be traveling overseas. However, when Choi Do-il checks on Hwa-young saying she was supposed to be back already, In-ju heads to her place and finds her lifeless.
It turns out that Hwa-young embezzled a slush fund. In-joo being the only person close to her was asked by Director Shin to help track where the money is. But she refuses to cooperate.
A few days after that, she receives a phone call about a yoga membership transfer initiated by Hwa-young. She also discovers 2 billion won worth of money inside a big backpack.
Agreeing to Director Shin’s request, In-joo looked back on her conversations with Hwa-young to piece out some clues that could help find the 70 billion won that Hwa-young stole.
Director Shin’s Warning
Together with Do-il, they arrive at the conspiration Hwa-young and Director Shin had and how the latter was reported to the prosecutor’s office by Hwa-young.
Meanwhile, In-kyung faces a roadblock as the source of the case she’s working on died.
When In-joo receives a package bearing a pair of red shoes, she confronts Director Shin who acts as cold as he can be about the predicament he faces. He also warns In-joo that someone greater is behind the slush fund.
Driving away from her, Director Shin realizes his car breaks are not working and meets his unexpected demise.
Little Women Opening Week Musings
The villain of Little Women is looking formidable and scary just in the first two episodes of the series.
With In-joo’s emotional disarray and In-kyung’s excessive empathy; it is curious how they will play cards against a foe in hiding that seems to intertwine them – and even their little sister In-hye.
While it is too early to speculate, a few clues presented would shape our initial theories in the riveting introduction of the series.
Presenting the stark contrast between the rich and the poor is palpable in the premiere week of Little Women.
Something that would take the bulk of the narrative as its tendency to deliver a unique underdog story is also evident.
While viewers accompany Oh sisters to the missing 70 billion Korean won, their distinct personalities and convictions would play in favor or against their fates in the narrative.
There are also underlying life lessons the drama intends to put a spotlight on which makes its appeal quite classy and not so taxing compared to previous dramas of the same outline
To run for a dozen episodes, we expect the pace to pick up speed in the next episodes. Sparingly providing plot twists so far, also helped the thrilling hook of the series worth tuning to.
