Little Women Episode 5 Highlights

Previously in the last episode, a shocking discovery is out in the open regarding Hwa-young using In-joo’s name as her identity while living in Singapore. In-hye is also adamant to accept the offer of Park Jae-sang’s foundation and study in Boston with Hyo-rin against her sisters’ wishes.

“Can’t you trust how far I will go to protect you?”

From their recently acquired knowledge, Do-il proceeds with how they are going to move with their plans in acquiring the money Hwa-young hid using In-joo’s identity. Having assigned a mission to earn the trust of Sang-ah, In-joo agrees to take care of Hyo-rin because of her urgent business in Singapore.

At night, while In-hye and Hyo-rin watch the documentary about Park family’s ideal life, Jae-sang storms into the living room to ask his daughter if she knew about her mom leaving for Singapore.

Enraged, he channels his frustration by breaking the high-end television with a golf club. He asks his daughter to call her mother, but In-joo meddles so he was asked by Jae-sang to talk privately.

Sharing what Sang-ah told her about why she went to Singapore, Jae-sang confirmed it online and asked Do-il who arrived to bring back his wife the next day.

Seizing a chance to talk to Do-il, In-joo expressed her woes about how dysfunctional the Park family is. But Do-il reassures her that he will protect her.

Meanwhile, In-kyung starts working at her Great Aunt’s company to fulfill the condition of the money she paid for In-hye’s hospital bill.

Little Women

“Even though she took off with my money, I believe there were moments when we were real friends.”

As promised, Sang-ah was hauled back from Singapore and got into a heated argument with Jae-sang. But the next day, they pose as a happy and loving couple at an event.

When Sang-ah realized her husband has put a tail on her, she and In-joo escape and go to Hwa-young’s place. Sang-ah breaks down at the thought of how she missed Hwa-young whom she believed to have treated her as a friend.

Confessing how she failed to achieve her ultimate dream to become an actress, Sang-ah told In-joo how she ironically acts like an actress as Jae-sang’s wife 24/7.

Accordingly, In-kyung and Jong-ho go to a school and meet the person who has cultivated the blue orchid and stumbles on the connection between Sang-ah’s father with him. In-kyung also learns that her nemesis at work is an alumnus of the school that was established by Commander Won, a Vietnam war hero.

At night, In-joo meets Do-il who warned her of not falling into Sang-ah’s way of gaining her trust. That’s exactly what In-kyung told In-joo about Do-il with suspicious past actions.

When In-joo noticed the blue orchid, In-kyung forms a story that she pitched to her boss. However, her boss also received a notice that she is bound to be dismissed.

Thinking her Great Aunt had something to do with her dismissal, she learned it was not. She rushes to where Park Jae-sang is having a media conference campaign. Rudely snatching the microphone, she tried to ask questions directed to the aspiring mayor, but the mic was cut off.

Determined, In-kyung runs down all properties that Jae-sang’s father owned putting the latter in a sticky situation.

“I’m the one who told her to paint it. A scene that scares her the most. A scene that she can’t tell anyone but she keeps seeing. I told her to paint it so she can overcome her fear.”

Receiving a call from In-hye to bring Hyo-rin’s phone; In-joo follows her sister’s instruction to search for it under the bed. Beside the cellphone is the painting Hyo-rin did which In-hye praised when they had a painting session.

The painting is the exact picture of how Hwa-young died in her apartment. Confronting Hyo-rin about it, In-joo can’t get a proper response. In-hye steps in to explain how the painting is something she told Hyo-rin. Something that scares her and she can’t tell anyone about.

Later, Hyo-rin is nowhere to be found in the house so In-joo and In-hye look for her. Using the CCTV monitoring screen, they found Hyo-rin in the basement inside a car. Fainting after watching something from her phone, In-joo realizes the video is the road to Hwa-young’s place and sees Park Jae Sang emerging from the car on the day her friend died.

Little Women Episode 5 Musings

Just when we are having a clearer picture of Little Women, the latest development in the plot is making viewers choose to ignore creating theories. Instead, it diverts to a totally different picture of what we should expect.

Apparently, Hwa-young’s story is the tip of the iceberg. What’s confusing is how Hyorin put to painting the scene of Hwa-young’s death when it is not feasible to capture if her father really murdered her.

So far, the mystery building in the series forces viewers to look forward to the succeeding episodes. Impressively, the ambiguity and hard-to-read motivations of Jae-sang, Sang-ah and Do-il are raising the anxiety we feel towards the Oh siblings.

Exceptionally, the portrayals seemingly appear like a vibrantly done painting that is on the verge of completion, with each character functioning as the colors that bring life to the story.

Interestingly, the clue about the blue orchid heightens this chapter, and we can bet for a clearer view ahead. Fortunately, we won’t wait that long since the series will only run for 12 episodes.

On the horizon, we see all the characters we met so far converging to the truth that they are all connected to some degree. More insights about the blue orchid better be worth it because the additional plot details revealed in this episode widened the development of the plot when we’re expecting it to be narrowed down.

Root for the Oh sisters and their journey to find the meaning of life beyond money and power in Little Women! International fans can watch it on Netflix.
