I Have Not Done My Best

Anyone can switch careers and follow what their heart truly desires. This holds true for a 44-year-old who wishes to become a webtoon artist in K-PLUS Channel’s new 12-episode drama series.

I Have Not Done My Best tells the amusing story of  44-year old Nam Geum-pil who voluntarily quits his job and dreams of becoming a webtoon artist. In detail, this series is an adaptation based on the original Japanese graphic novel “ORE WA MADA HONKI DASHITENAI DAKE” by Shunju AONO.

Moreover, this 2022 K-Drama is set to premiere on February 19, and is helmed by Director Im Tae-woo (Sketch, Steel Heart). Also, and is co-written by renowned screenwriters Park Hee-Kwon (The Flu) as well as Park Eun-Yeong (Maundy Thursday).

Furthermore, this drama is the second time the two writers have collaborated as co-writers following their prior project, The Third Charm.

Quick Story Sketch

Nam Geum-pil (Park Hae Joon) is a white-collar worker who had spent the previous ten years working for the same company. However, he once aspired to be a musician.

He could not make a career out of music, nonetheless, he thought he finally knew what he wanted to be at 44 years old. Consequently, he makes the impulsive decision of handing in his resignation, eager to start anew.

As a result, his father, Nam Dong-jin (Kim Kap-soo), and daughter, Nam Sang-ah (Park Jung-Yeon), with whom he lives, both criticize him.

Subsequently,  Geum-pil discovers by chance that a neighbor who appears to be jobless is a webtoon artist who earns billions. Thus, he begins to believe – that he, too, possesses the capability to make something out of his ‘talent’–daydreaming– into art.

Hence, he decides to establish a career as a comic artist. Unfortunately, with neither a source of income nor savings, he begins working part-time at a fast-food restaurant while pursuing his dreams.

Meanwhile, Bong Yeon-ja (Park Ji-young), a crone who regards her property as her children and is still looking for the man of her dreams, also lives in the very same apartment.

Kim Kap Soo (as Nam Dong-jin)

After his son’s irrational and hasty action, Dong-jin had no choice but to once again act as the head of their family. Including having to restrain his rage and the challenge to refrain from nagging whenever he sees his son Geum-pil.

Park Jung Yeon (as Nam Sang-ah)

Nam Sang-ah is Geum-pil’s only daughter. Although that may be true, in contrast to her childish father, she is a mature and responsible adult. In contrast to her childish father, Sang-ah has been a mature and responsible adult.

In fact, even when she was a child, Sang-ah has been self-sufficient. She takes excellent care of herself to lighten the load on the adults around her.  More importantly, even if it is worrisome, she cannot help but support her father’s ambitions. Hence, she lends him money from her allowance.

Character Transformations To Anticipate

Park Hae Joon made a name for himself in the highly regarded melodrama The World of the Married, Arthdal Chronicles and My Mister. However, he will showcase a complete change in the role of Nam Geum-pil. To illustrate, he will portray the main character, who is childish and clumsy.

For that reason, viewers can take comfort in his character’s story and relate to his whimsical yet relevant struggles. Indeed, Park Hae Joon is set to represent the adults of our generation who face day-to-day workplace challenges.

On the other hand, Kim Kap Soo, known for his roles in the Kdrama series Sweet Home, Hospital Playlist, and Mr. Sunshine, also has a promising transformation not to be missed.

Likewise, fans will witness actress Park Jung Yeon’s known from Kingmaker: The Change of Destiny and Hi Bye, Mama! portrayal unlike any other in this upcoming series. Last but not least, actress Park Ji Young from The Red Sleeve, When I Was Most Beautiful, and VIP, is anticipated to add additional comical flair to the cast ensemble.

I Have Not Done My Best will premiere on K-PLUS starting 19 February 2022, Saturday at 6.45 pm SGT with back-to-back episodes. Encore every Monday at 5.30 pm SGT.
